The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 336: Grave
Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Grave
"Enough," Gu Jihu said again, his tone final. He gestured to the members of the Magic Council standing by the bus. "Take her."
Before Gu Aihan could protest further, a pair of Magic Council operatives approached her. She tried to resist, but they gently yet firmly guided her onto the bus.
Then as if understanding something Gu Aihan stopped struggling and asked with excitement,
"Second Brother you are going to deal with them, right? You are so good to me! Thank you, brother!"
Her words caused the other students to become even more envious.
Gu Jihu didn’t respond to Gu Aihan’s words. His sharp gaze remained fixed on the dense forest ahead as if she no longer existed in his world.
Gu Aihan, misinterpreting his silence as agreement, beamed with satisfaction.
She straightened herself and threw a haughty glance toward the nearby students, her voice dripping with false modesty.
"See? I told you, my brother always takes care of me. He knows what’s best. Long Yifan and Gu Jin won’t stand a chance now."
Her tone made the surrounding students exchange looks of thinly veiled envy.
"She’s so lucky," whispered one of the women, her voice tinged with bitterness.
"Her brother doesn’t just save her but even goes out of his way to deal with her enemies."
"Gu Aihan’s always been pampered," muttered another. "It’s not fair."
A young man slumped against a tree and shook his head in exasperation.
"If I had a brother like Gu Jihu, I’d be living the dream. No wonder she’s so full of herself."
Gu Aihan basked in their murmurs, her chest puffed up with pride.
She threw one last look toward Gu Jihu, her eyes shining with what she thought was affection.
"Brother, I’ll leave everything to you. Teach them a lesson they’ll never forget."
As the Magic Council operatives gently ushered her onto the bus, she didn’t resist this time.
Instead, she stepped up with her chin held high, waving as if she were royalty being escorted to safety.
Gu Aihan sat by the window, peering out as the bus began to hum with life.
She rested her chin on her hand, her thoughts swirling with satisfaction.
With Gu Jihu handling this, Gu Jin’s fate is sealed. That girl’s been a thorn in my side for far too long.
She smirked, imagining Long Yifan groveling at her brother’s feet.
Serves him right for choosing her over me.
But as the bus began to pull away, she noticed something strange. Gu Jihu didn’t move toward where she assumed Long Yifan and Gu Jin were.
Her brows furrowed in confusion.
Where’s he going? She leaned closer to the window, trying to see more, but the bus rounded a bend, and her brother disappeared from sight.
For the first time, doubt began to creep into her mind.
Is he really going after them? Why didn’t he say anything?
However soon she waved away those thoughts. Maybe Gu Jin and Long Yifan were in the other direction, or maybe her brother had caught them already and was now going to deal with them.
Gu Jihu moved swiftly, his mind focused on the faint traces of Gu Jin’s aura.
His heart ached at the thought of her being in danger, but his expression remained unreadable.
But there was another emotion swirling in his mind. Happiness.
Finally! Finally, he had found her...the one he was looking for.
It took 1 more day for Gu Jihu to find Gu Jin and Long Yifan.
By the time he found Long Yifan, Gu Jihu was surprised to see the state in which Long Yifan was.
On the verge of a breakthrough. But what made Gu Jihu frown was Long Yifan’s aura. He seems to be at heaven’s rank. Was he going to surpass Heaven Rank?
This young man was indeed talented if he could surpass the Heaven Rank.
Yet, all of his focus was shifted to Gu Jin. She was unscathed. His hanging heart relaxed. Only then did the situation become clear to him.
Currently, Long Yifan is surrounded by 10 or supreme rank beasts. Even with his full strength, he couldn’t defeat more than 1 supreme-rank beast.
If he made some sacrifices, he could take down 2 supreme-rank beasts, but not any more than that.
Staring at Long Yifan’s injured body, Gu Jihu was worried that Gu Jin would be harmed.
Long Yifan’s eyes flickered with hope as they landed on Gu Jihu standing at a distance.
Despite the exhaustion evident in every inch of his battered body, his lips curled into a faint smile.
"Hey!" he called out, his voice hoarse but resolute.
Gu Jihu’s sharp gaze swept over the battlefield.
The situation was worse than he’d anticipated.
The air was thick with killing intent as the ten supreme-rank beasts prowled around Long Yifan, each radiating a dangerous aura.
His eyes hardened when they met Long Yifan’s.
"I didn’t come here for you," Gu Jihu said coldly, his voice like frost. "I came for Gu Jin. She’s the only one that matters to me."
Long Yifan’s lips twitched, and he did not attempt to argue.
Instead, his hand rose weakly, forming deliberate gestures in the air.
It took Gu Jihu a moment to realize he was using sign language.
Take her. Save Gu Jin. Leave me.
Gu Jihu’s brows lifted slightly in surprise.
He hadn’t expected such clarity—or selflessness—from the young man standing amidst certain doom.
His lips tightened into a thin line as he nodded, a rare flicker of respect glimmering in his eyes.
"Good choice," Gu Jihu muttered, his tone neutral but his mind conflicted.
This boy knows his limits. At least he understands what’s important.
He hurriedly climbed to a tree and jumped from one tree to another before reaching to place where Gu Jin was. Leaping down, he nodded at Long Yifan, before turning to Gu Jin.
He crouched down, lifting her into his arms with practiced ease.
His gaze shifted momentarily to Long Yifan, who was struggling to stay upright yet still managed a faint, grateful nod.
"You’ve made your choice," Gu Jihu said quietly, his voice low enough that only Long Yifan could hear.
"I’ll ensure she survives. As for you..." He glanced at the surrounding beasts, his expression darkening. "I’ll visit your grave someday."
Long Yifan smirked faintly, the corner of his bloodied lips lifting. His fingers moved again, forming shaky signs.
Thank you. Take care of her.
As Gu Jihu prepared to leave, the beasts roared, their attention now divided between the two men.
Long Yifan staggered forward, summoning the last reserves of his strength to draw their focus back to him.
"Come on!" he bellowed, his voice cutting through the chaos like a war cry. He brandished his weapon, its faint glow flickering as if mirroring his faltering vitality.
Gu Jihu didn’t waste another second.
As he sprinted through the trees, Gu Jihu saw some of the supreme beasts chasing him. Just as he was about to attack them, Long Yifan took care of the beast.
Gu Jihu was even more impressed by the young man’s cooperative behavior.
Alas, this young man was about to die otherwise he would have picked this man as his sister’s bodyguard.
As Gu Jihu leaped from tree to tree, his movements graceful and calculated, he suddenly felt the weight in his arms shift.
Gu Jin’s body began to twitch violently, her frame shuddering as if responding to an unseen force.
Gu Jihu froze mid-step, landing on a sturdy branch with perfect balance. His piercing eyes turned dark and intense, scanning Gu Jin’s expression.
Her lips were pale, and faint traces of energy rippled through her skin.
"What’s happening to her?" Gu Jihu demanded, his voice sharp as he turned back toward Long Yifan.
From his position surrounded by the supreme-rank beasts, Long Yifan’s gaze met Gu Jihu’s. His face was strained, but he forced himself to sign swiftly:
She’s been like this for four days. She’s been on the verge of breaking through to the Emperor Rank but couldn’t complete it.
Long Yifan coughed violently, blood splattering on the ground, but he continued to gesture.
You have to do something. If this continues—
Before Long Yifan could finish his words, a blinding dark green light erupted from Gu Jin’s body, shooting high into the sky.
The oppressive glow pierced through the thick forest canopy, illuminating the entire island in its eerie hue.
Gu Jihu narrowed his eyes, instinctively tightening his grip on Gu Jin.
He stepped onto a higher branch to get a better view as the light intensified, wrapping around Gu Jin like a cocoon.
"What is this?" Gu Jihu murmured, his tone low but laced with unease.
Gu Jin’s hair began to shift in color, its once-dark locks transforming into a shimmering, vibrant green.
Her pale skin grew even more porcelain-like, reflecting the eerie glow of the light enveloping her.
Gu Jihu’s breath hitched when her eyelids fluttered.
Slowly, Gu Jin opened her eyes, revealing irises now the color of the purest emeralds, gleaming with a strange, otherworldly light.
