The Mighty Mage
Chapter 313: Spy

Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Spy

Gu Jin had two elements that were still working.

One was a mutated plant and the other was necromancy.

Gu Jin didn’t dare to use the necromancy element without any qualms. In Fu Jio city there was hardly anyone who knew about necromancy elements but the same can’t be said for students and professors of Beijing University.

She didn’t dare to take risks.

With the mentality of not seeing too much blood, she stationed her skeleton warrior in the shadows of other students.

Was she doing it because she was a saint? Hell no.

If the students slowly died, the earth mage wouldn’t have enough time to make the boat.

There is a strength in number. So Gu Jin wanted all the students to survive.

Hence whenever any students were on the edge of dying, they would be miraculously saved by the skeleton warrior in their shadow.

At first, the students were wary and even afraid, fearing it was some strange kind of creature.

But as they realized that these strange warriors were protecting them, confusion turned to wary gratitude.

Murmurs spread through the group, and though no one knew exactly who was controlling the undead, they understood that someone among them was risking everything to keep them alive.

Gu Jin was that someone.

Sweat beaded on her forehead as she split her focus between her plant magic and directing the hidden skeletons.

Her eyes darted from one endangered student to another, her mind racing to calculate where the next attack would come from.

But the strain was beginning to take its toll. Her breaths came in ragged gasps, her vision blurring from exhaustion.

The blue slime roared again, its gaping maw opening to reveal rows of jagged, obsidian teeth.

It surged forward with terrifying speed, catching one of the wind mages off guard.

The student screamed as the creature closed in, only to be saved at the last second by one of Gu Jin’s skeleton warriors.

The creature seemed to sense her growing fatigue and turned its focus on her.

With a deafening roar, it lunged toward Gu Jin, its massive body blotting out the sky.

In a panic, she threw up a wall of thorny vines, the mutated plants growing thick and fast to form a barrier around her.

She braced herself for the impact, expecting to be thrown aside or swallowed whole.

But the blow never came.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Long Yifan standing in front of her, his hands glowing with earth magic as he reinforced her plant wall with layers of hardened clay.

The slime slammed into the barrier, but it held, cracks spreading but not breaking.

Yifan’s back was to her, his broad shoulders tense as he focused all his energy on keeping them safe.

For a moment, Gu Jin was stunned. Complex emotions surged within her.

But she quickly pushed those feelings aside. There was no time for distractions, not when so many lives were still at stake.

Gu Jin tore her gaze away from him and returned to her task, her eyes scanning the battlefield.

The other students, seeing the lengths Gu Jin was going to protect them, felt a shift in their hearts.

She wasn’t just looking out for herself; she was putting her life on the line for everyone.

"Gu Jin’s doing everything she can to save us," a boy with undead magic shouted, rallying those around him. "We can’t let her fight alone!"

Back at the shore, the earth mages worked with frantic speed.

They shaped the clay with desperate precision, their hands moving in a blur as they molded it into boats.

Water mages, their faces slick with sweat, fed streams of water into the sand, creating the perfect consistency for the clay.

The wind mages swooped in, using sharp gusts of air to harden the outer layers, forming a solid shell.

"Dry it faster!" Professor Meng urged, his usually calm demeanor cracking under the pressure. "We’re running out of time!"

"Almost there!" shouted one of the earth mages, his voice tinged with exhaustion.

They had managed to complete two boats now, but it wasn’t enough. Not yet.

The bait team was holding their ground, but barely.

Gu Jin saw that the sludge was slowly getting restless. She secretly released a skeleton warrior in its shadow.

It can’t be helped.

With her skeleton warrior, she could easily see what would happen once she left the shore, she would also be able to explore the island to see if there was any treasure.

Time passed and in between some students died.

Even Gu Jin’s protection wasn’t enough.

The blue sludge was too powerful.

Gu Jin watched with her own eyes, as the students who had just started the journey, lose their life.

Compared to the earth she had lived in, the magic world was indeed very cruel.

At the tender age of 21, the humans of her world used to get busy, preparing for jobs. Gu Jin never experienced that life, she lived in the shadows of the dark world, yearning for a normal life.

A life where she doesn’t have to sacrifice her loved ones, a life where she doesn’t have to scheme against everyone, a life where she doesn’t have to crave power, a life where she will have a family of her own, a life where she doesn’t need to be wary of others intention and a life where she won’t have to see humans dying.

She wasn’t able to fulfill those wishes of her, in her previous life, and even in this life she was unable.

Was she destined to live a life full of murders and schemes?

Back at the shore, the third boat was nearing completion.

The earth mages were now beyond exhaustion, their faces ashen, but they pushed on, driven by sheer willpower.

The water mages collapsed as soon as the last bit of clay was shaped, and their magic reserves drained.

"It’s done!" one of the wind mages cried, their hands trembling as they finished drying the last boat.

"Get everyone on board!"

The students scrambled toward the boats, helping each other into the makeshift vessels.

There were no seats, no comfort—just hollow shells that bobbed precariously on the water.

Gu Jin stayed behind, ushering the last of the students onto the boats, her eyes darting back to the advancing sludge.

"We need to go, now!" Long Yifan shouted from one of the boats, his face pale but determined.

"Gu Jin, get in!"

But she hesitated, her eyes scanning the shore. "Where’s Yan Mei?" she yelled. "She was right behind us!"

A figure burst through the haze, Yan Mei sprinting at full speed,

"I’m here, I’m here! Push off, now!"

Gu Jin grabbed her arm, hauling her onto the nearest boat just as the blue sludge surged forward in a final, desperate attack.

With a shove, they pushed off from the shore, the last boat rocking dangerously as it hit the water.

The blue sludge reached the edge of the shore, but it hesitated as if confused by the sudden disappearance of its prey.

For a heart-stopping moment, it seemed like it might follow them into the water. But then, with a shudder, it withdrew.

There was a collective sigh of relief as the students realized they were safe, at least for now.

The makeshift clay boats floated, carrying them further and further away from the shore, away from the horrors they had narrowly escaped.

Gu Jin collapsed against the side of the boat, her entire body trembling with exhaustion.

Maybe the fight had caused too much pressure on her, or maybe the emotional turmoil had taken a toll on her.

The next second Gu Jin lost consciousness.

What Gu Jin didn’t know was, that after she fell asleep, the sea creatures started to attack the boats one by one.

But with the water mage and wind mage’s help, the team quickly found an island.

Once on the island, the wind mages after taking a rest, moved to scout the island and once they got to know the area filled with dangerous creatures, they smartly avoided it and built a camp far away from that area.

The ride to the island wasn’t easy.

It took them 5 hours to find the island and in those 5 hours, there were many dangers. No one bothered about the other people and only cared to save their ass.

However, Gu Jin was constantly under the protection of two people.

One openly protected her. Yan Mei.

While the other one could only secretly protect her. Long Yifan.

By the time Gu Jin woke up, the team had already hunted a beast and was having a feast.

Gu Jin rubbed her aching temples and looked around. She found herself in a tent.

It took her some time to recollect what had happened.

"You are awake?" A slightly stern voice laced with concern sounded.

Gu Jin lifted her head and saw Long Yifan standing at the entrance of the tent.
