The Mighty Mage
Chapter 306: Portal

Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Portal

Second Young Master Gu let out a dry, humorless chuckle, shaking his head.

"I know what’s in the letter, Assistant Ni. I’m asking why you haven’t taken any action against this girl. You are in charge of handling such matters, are you not?"

Assistant Ni’s face paled slightly, but he quickly composed himself.

"Second Young Master, you gave us a strict order never to harm orphans unless they cross a significant line. This girl... she is an orphan.

Thus, we refrained from intervening until we could determine if her actions warranted such measures."

The room fell silent as Second Young Master Gu absorbed this information. He leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers rhythmically against the wooden armrest.

"An orphan, you say?" His tone was contemplative. "But how is it possible for an ordinary orphan to gain admission to Beijing University, let alone stand against Gu Aihan?"

"That’s precisely what intrigued me, Second Young Master," Assistant Ni replied. He hesitated for a moment, then continued.

"Upon further investigation, we discovered that this young woman is not as ordinary as she seems.

She possesses extraordinary talent, with the potential to reach the Heaven Rank. Currently, she is already at the Advanced Rank."

Usually, children are left in orphanages if their potential is low. So why would someone as talented as Gu Jin end up in the orphanage?

Assistant Ni nodded, continuing with his report.

"Yes, Second Young Master. Moreover, I discovered that this woman did not provoke Second Young Miss in any way.

In fact, it was Miss Gu Aihan who repeatedly instigated conflicts with her. The woman in question seems to be focused solely on her studies and training, showing no interest in engaging with Miss Gu Aihan’s provocations."

He couldn’t help but feel pity for the woman.

Gu Aihan was a spoiled brat and green tea on top of that.

Earlier second young master didn’t care about her, so he wasn’t concerned about her either.

Who would have thought that Second Young Master would suddenly start to dote on Gu Aihan heavily?

As a result, Gu Aihan kept on using the Second Young Master to do evil deeds.

At first Second Young Master Gu didn’t take the matter seriously but soon when he saw the true face of Gu Aihan, he was disappointed.

The only problem was...Second Young Master Gu never gave up on her.

God knows what he was waiting for.

As the assistant and the right-hand man of the Second Young Master, Assistant Ni was burdened to solve all the matters, making him feel more and more disgusted.

Hence it was proper to say that he hated Gu Aihan and deliberately found the true situation before reporting anything regarding Gu Aihan to the Second Young master.

Second Young Master Gu’s expression darkened slightly. "So, it’s Gu Aihan causing trouble again," he said with a sigh. "Why am I not surprised?"

With each passing day, Gu Aihan was becoming more and more distant, she didn’t seem to who he remembered.

For a moment he even started to wonder whether the shaman was telling the truth.

Assistant Ni shifted uncomfortably, clearly holding back his opinions on the matter.

Though he was loyal to the Gu family, he had never approved of Gu Aihan’s underhanded tactics and manipulative behavior.

"Yes, sir. I’ve observed that the woman, despite being targeted, has remained composed and resilient. In fact, her conduct has earned her quite a bit of admiration among the students."

Second Young Master Gu’s interest was clearly piqued now.

"And what is the name of this remarkable woman who managed to earn the admiration of Beijing University’s students?"

Assistant Ni cleared his throat, feeling a sense of hesitation as he uttered the name.

"Her name is Gu Jin."

The room seemed to freeze at that moment.

Second Young Master Gu’s eyes widened, a look of disbelief crossing his normally composed features.

"Gu Jin?" he repeated, his voice barely more than a whisper as if he needed to confirm he had heard correctly.

"Yes, sir. That’s the name I gathered during my investigation. Her origins are unclear, but her abilities are undeniable."

"Do you have a photograph of her?" Second Young Master Gu asked, his voice laced with urgency.

Assistant Ni shook his head apologetically.

"No, Second Young Master. She has never posted any photos of herself online, nor have we found any images in the university’s database. She is remarkably private for someone of her standing."

Second Young Master Gu let out a frustrated sigh, rubbing his temples as if trying to soothe an impending headache.

"Find me a photo of her," he ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument. "I want to see her face. You have one day. Use every resource at your disposal."

Assistant Ni nodded swiftly. "Understood, Second Young Master. I will prioritize this task."

As Assistant Ni turned to leave, Second Young Master Gu’s gaze lingered on the letter from his sister.

Just before Assistant Ni exited the room, Second Young Master Gu called out, "And Ni, one more thing."

Assistant Ni turned, waiting for his master’s next command.

"Ensure that no harm comes to this Gu Jin. If anyone—especially my sister—tries to hurt her, I want to know immediately."

"Understood, sir."

With that, Assistant Ni left the room, leaving Second Young Master Gu alone with his thoughts. He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling as his mind raced with possibilities.

"Gu Jin..." he murmured to himself, a ghost of a smile tugging at his lips.

If she was truly the Gu Jin he remembered, then everything would make sense!

How he wishes he could confront the woman named Gu Jin right away.

His heart was beating with excitement but he didn’t dare to dream. After all, at one point he tried his best to look for a woman named Gu Jin and found many but...each time he failed.

With each failure came the fear of disappointment and helplessness.

After countless failures, he met a shaman who told him many secrets, making him believe in spirituality.

He took the advice of the shaman and...

Now he wondered whether the shaman was a scam or hired by his enemy to mislead him.

......................

The same day, a student of Beijing University was led into a bus and blindfolded. Before they could understand what was going on with them, they fainted one by one.

Even Gu Jin who had excellent willpower couldn’t help but faint. Before fainting, Gu Jin only had one thought she wanted to learn incense making.

Yes.

The moment she entered the bus Gu Jin smelled a sweet fragrance in the air. Just like her, some of the sharp students felt it too.

When they asked the instructor about it, the instructor calmly said,

"It is for the people who have motion sickness."

Those who had motion sickness nodded in agreement showing that the incense was indeed working for them.

Yet Gu Jin felt that something was amiss.

When she started to feel sleepy, Gu Jin realized that the incense was a sleep-inducing incense, yet no one could figure it out.

She tried her best to stay awake and even bit her lips till they bled to stay awake but at last like others, she too fainted.

If any of the students were still awake they would have seen a bizarre scene. The bus was slowly approaching the forest behind the vast university but instead of entering the forest, it entered the portal which suddenly appeared out of thin air.

The bus instead of crashing, levitated in the vacuum. The scene inside the portal was even more terrifying and anxiety-inducing.

Unlike the usual portal which is pitch black from its inside, this portal had many other portals in it, that looked like an exit.

Gradually, the bus started to descend, moving towards one of the many doorways that lined the walls of the portal.

As they approached, the doorway flickered and shimmered, revealing glimpses of an unknown, otherworldly landscape.

Just as the bus was about to pass through, a loud, echoing boom reverberated through the space, causing the entire vehicle to shudder violently.

.............................

In Beijing University.

A group of robed figures sat around a massive crystal, their eyes closed in concentration.

They were the university’s elite mages, responsible for monitoring and controlling the various portals linked to each other.

Suddenly, one of the mages snapped his eyes open, alarm etched on his features.

"Something’s wrong! A portal we didn’t authorize has been activated, and it’s absorbing our mana at an alarming rate!"

The lead mage, a stern-faced woman with silver hair, frowned deeply.

"Track its coordinates immediately! We can’t afford another incident after what happened last time."

A younger mage rushed to a set of glowing panels, his fingers dancing over them in a flurry.

"It’s... it’s connected to one of our transport buses, but the destination is fluctuating. I can’t pinpoint where it’s headed!"

The lead mage’s expression darkened.

"Damn it. Initiate a forced recall."
