The Mighty Mage
Chapter 296: Compensation

Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Compensation

Gu Jin’s expression darkened.

"You’re right about that. But now, you will face the consequences of your actions. I have no mercy for those who try to steal my credits."

Auric was scared. She was so busy snatching things that she ended up forgetting that she wasn’t close to Gu Jin.

In her previous life, she was Gu Jin’s university dormmate and had helped Gu Jin to fight during the inauguration ceremony.

From then on Gu Jin treated her well and let her steal her(Gu Jin’s) credit without any confrontation.

She subconsciously thought that even in this life Gu Jin would be tolerant of her...

Suddenly she remembered something and shouted,

"Wait! Wait! I can compensate! Please don’t kill me!"

Gu Jin paused, her mind stopped working when she heard Auric’s words. Kill? She wasn’t so ruthless, at most she would hand Auric to the police.

But now that Auric said those words, Gu Jin decided to play along and said,

"Oh? With what can you compensate?"

Auric gulped and proposed, "I am rich, I will give you money."

Gu Jin’s body relaxed and she asked,

"How much?"

"How about 2 billion yuan?" Auric asked. She was quoting a very minimal price.

After all in the past 10 years with the knowledge of the future and a few tricks, she saved more than 50 billion yuan and had assets over 200 billion yuan.

With so much in her hand and her previous life’s knowledge Auric was sure she could escape the disaster she was facing now.

How Gu Jin the sly old fox can miss out on such an opportunity.

With the thought that if a person can fork out 2 yuan, they can fork out 20 yuan too, she directly said,

"20 billion."

"Deal." Auric instantly agreed. Joy flashed in her eyes.

Forking out 20 billion out of 50 billion yuan, wasn’t a problem for her. After all, it concerned her life.

However, she soon realized that she had rejoiced too early.

The next second Gu Jin raised an eyebrow and continued,

"20 billion as a mental compensation and 20 billion for trying to scheme against me!"

Auric’s expression turned blue and she instantly bowed her head and repeatedly shook her head,

"Please! Please if you take away 40 billion yuan from me, I will be left with nothing!"

She squeezed out a few tears from her eyes and cried as if she would truly be left with nothing.

"50 billion." Gu Jin increased the price with a sly grin.

Auric: "..." F*ck! This tactic maybe doesn’t work on her!

The tears in Auric’s vanished as she stood up calmly and slowly tapped on her phone.

"Be fast, for every 1 minute you waste, you will be charged one extra 1 billion yuan." Gu Jin threatened.

Auric’s fingers trembled as she tapped her phone, each keystroke bringing her closer to sending away a small fortune.

She gritted her teeth, casting a sidelong glare at Gu Jin, who lounged on the sofa with an air of complete control.

"How long will it take?" Gu Jin’s voice was calm, almost bored, but the threat behind her words was unmistakable.

Auric swallowed, forcing a polite smile as she replied,

"It’s transferring, but... large amounts like this take time. You know how banks can be."

She forced a light laugh, but it died quickly under Gu Jin’s unwavering gaze.

"Make sure it doesn’t take too long," Gu Jin said, leaning forward with an amused glint in her eye.

"Wouldn’t want any unexpected delays to cost you more."

Auric almost cried.

She couldn’t believe her fortunes had turned so quickly.

Just yesterday, she’d felt invincible—armed with money, knowledge, and a head start over

Gu Jin, thanks to her previous life’s memories.

But Gu Jin was relentless, sharp, and two steps ahead at every turn, making Auric feel like a child caught playing a game too advanced for her.

Forcing down her bitterness, Auric finally hit "send" on the transaction.

She hoped this would end it. Maybe, just maybe, Gu Jin would finally show her a scrap of mercy.

"There." Auric’s voice was tense. "I’ve sent the first 20 billion as compensation."

Gu Jin’s eyebrows arched in mock surprise.

"Just the first half?"

Auric clenched her jaw. She knew she couldn’t win here, not with Gu Jin pressing her down so effectively.

"Yes... it’s the first installment. The rest will take a bit longer."

"Convenient," Gu Jin mused, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Well, since you’ve agreed, I trust the second half will be transferred without any more theatrics?"

"Yes, yes," Auric replied hastily. "But... are you sure this is enough? I mean, it’s an enormous amount... and I don’t even have half left anymore."

Gu Jin’s smile hardened.

"If I were you, I’d think twice before whining about wealth in front of the person you tried to ruin."

Auric gulped, feeling the sting of those words.

But she was quick on her feet.

She knew that if she could just make it out of this encounter, she could regroup, find a way to recoup her losses, and maybe even find another angle to strike at Gu Jin in the future.

But for now, survival was all that mattered.

Gu Jin, however, could read Auric’s expressions like an open book.

"You think you’ll recover from this, don’t you?" she asked, an icy smile forming on her lips.

"That once you’ve paid me off, you’ll find another way to claw back at what you lost?"

Auric’s eyes widened, and she opened her mouth to protest, but Gu Jin raised a hand.

"Save it. I know your type far too well. So, to ensure you’re reminded of your debt—both financially and morally—you’ll be paying an additional 5% of your profits for the next five years."

Auric almost cried from anger.

5% of her profits? That was a huge number!

"What?" Auric’s voice rose in indignation. "That’s absurd! Do you know how much that is?"

"Clearly, I do," Gu Jin replied her gaze as cold and sharp as steel.

"Or is the thought of real consequences too difficult for you to handle?"

Auric felt her knees go weak. She was trapped, completely and utterly.

And for the first time, she understood just how deeply Gu Jin despised stealing.

She finally managed to speak, her voice choked with anger and fear.

"Fine. I’ll pay you the 5%. But just know, Gu Jin, I’m not as weak as you think I am. I’ll find a way—"

Gu Jin raised a finger, silencing her.

"Threats? Really?" Her tone was dry, almost amused.

"You’re welcome to try. But remember, Auric—every attempt, every slight against me, will only make things worse for you"

By the time Gu Jin left, Auric almost knelt down. She soon realized that Gu Jin didn’t have any plan to kill her, she was slowly torturing her!

Ah!

Gu Jin soon reached an orphanage, first, she donated 2 billion yuan anonymously and then she searched for all the skeleton warrior’s family.

Leaving out the first 3 Skelly who had a special last wish, she went to the house where Skelly 4’s real family lived.

Before she could knock on the door, she heard the faint sobbing of a little girl.

"Brother...brother where are you...wu wu...How will I survive without you...wu...wu. I just want to find your body. If you are alive please return, but if you are dead....please god let my brother’s body be found...I couldn’t even perform last rites for him if I don’t get his body."

Gu Jin’s heart trembled.

The weight of what the other family would be feeling after not getting to see their family member(the skeleton warrior) and give them proper last rites, made Gu Jin feel as if she was suffocated.

’You are despicable.’ Gu Jin muttered to herself.

However, she suppressed her emotions and knocked on the door.

When the door was flung open, Gu Jin could see a young woman in her early 20s, looking at her with a hopeful expression.

Slowly the expression on the young woman’s face fell and she saw a figure dressed in complete black dress.

"Who are you?" The young woman asked warily.

Gu Jin extended her hand and the young woman immediately backed away instinctively.

"What are you doing? Stay away from me! I swear if you try to do anything funny I will fight with you till my death." The young woman shouted, but when she saw the figure maintaining the same position for a long time, she noticed a black card which previously she didn’t notice because of the dark night in the hand of the figure.

"What is this?" The young woman asked and Gu Jin simply extended a letter from the other hand.

After staring at the figure warily for a long time, the young woman slowly took away the letter and opened it.

’Dear sister,

By the time you find this letter, I might have died. I apologize for leaving you midway through the journey.

After my death, someone will give you a bank card in which 100 million yuan will be credited every year.

Use it to become the best mage.

-Your lovely brother
