The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 279: Suicide
Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Suicide
"Master it is not like that! You are misunderstanding me." The space tried to explain but Gu Jin interrupted him,
"Am I?" Gu Jin’s voice was icy, her aura growing darker with every word.
She could feel the pressure building in the air around her, the ominous black clouds thickening, swirling ominously overhead.
The space stammered in panic,
"M-Master, please! It’s not like that! I didn’t want to alarm you before you were ready—"
"Ready?" Gu Jin interrupted, her eyes flashing with anger.
"I’m standing here about to be struck by a necromancy tribulation, and you think now is the time to talk about ’ready’?"
The space fell silent, clearly realizing the futility of arguing.
Gu Jin could feel the storm gathering above her, dark energies swirling ominously as the tribulation prepared to descend.
"What type of tribulation is it?" Gu Jin asked even though she knew the answer.
"Lightning." The space replied.
Gu Jin took a deep breath and instantly started to prepare herself. First, she wore magic armor and defensive artifacts all around herself.
She even took out some more artifacts to create protective barriers around her.
"How much lightning do I have to endure?"
"Only 9." The space replied.
Gu Jin: "..." My space truly has no sense of crisis.
But Gu Jin didn’t scold it anymore.
She realized one thing. Space was just an artifact. It wasn’t a human or anything responsible for her life.
Gu Jin took a deep breath and braced herself as the black clouds swirled overhead, gathering strength.
Nine strikes of lightning—it didn’t sound like much, but this was no ordinary storm.
She didn’t know whether the lightning would be light or not.
"By the way, do you know as to why each breakthrough would result in tribulation?" Gu Jin asked.
In her previous life, Gu Jin had unconsciously heard of many novel plots.
Tribulations was one of them.
So far she has only heard of immortals going through tribulations.
When does the magic world start to have tribulations anyway?
"Master all the life force that you are sucking is against heaven’s will, so you will have to pay for it." The space explained.
Gu Jin’s eyes brightened,
"Wait, didn’t you say that I have to suck life force only in earlier stages? Does that mean the intensity of the lightning tribulation will decrease the further I cultivate?"
"Yes, Master...but...that doesn’t mean the intensity of tribulation will decrease...to be precise, the intensity will only increase.
The reason which I told you before is just an excuse the heavens use for killing the necromancers."
"What?" Gu Jin was stunned.
Why did Heaven want to kill necromancers?
But looking at the dark clouds and the lightning, she knew it wasn’t the best time to ask the question in her mind.
"Space," she called, "Activate all the defensive formations I’ve stored."
"Yes, Master!" The space responded, relieved that Gu Jin had calmed down.
The first rumble of thunder echoed through the air, and Gu Jin clenched her fists, her body tensing as she waited.
"Here it comes..." she muttered, her eyes narrowing as she looked up at the dark, swirling sky.
A bright flash of lightning shot down from the clouds, striking the ground with an earth-shattering roar.
Gu Jin barely had time to react as the bolt hurtled toward her, but her barriers held.
The first strike crashed against the outermost shield, sending ripples of energy through the air, but it did not break.
"One down," she whispered, her heart pounding in her chest.
The second strike came almost immediately after, more powerful than the first.
It crackled and sparked as it collided with her defenses, and this time, one of her barriers shattered.
Gu Jin winced as she felt the force of the blow vibrate through her body, but she stood firm.
"Two..." she counted, her breaths coming faster.
The third and fourth strikes came in quick succession, both of them slamming into her shields with explosive force.
More barriers broke, the magic dispersing into the air like shattered glass, but Gu Jin held her ground.
Sweat trickled down her face, but she refused to falter.
"Only five more," she gasped, trying to steady her breathing. "I can do this."
The fifth strike came, and it was the most devastating yet.
It blasted through her remaining defenses, leaving only a thin layer of protection between her and the full force of the tribulation.
Gu Jin staggered back, her body aching from the impact, but she quickly reinforced her armor with more energy.
The sixth strike directly landed on Gu Jin, sending a shockwave of pure energy coursing through her body.
Her magic armor held, but only just.
The force of the lightning nearly drove her to her knees, but Gu Jin gritted her teeth and fought against the overwhelming pain.
Her body was numb, her muscles straining against the unbearable pressure.
"Six... almost there," she rasped, struggling to keep her focus.
Thereafter 3 consecutive lightning strikes came down to Gu Jin.
Instead of hiding behind the protective barriers, Gu Jin gritted her teeth and sat down to endure them.
As for using the thunder element to cleanse her meridians or make them strong...that was a suicidal move, she didn’t want to try it out for the time being.
She has just gone through the pain of her bones getting broken if she tries to absorb the thunder even when she has no thunder element, she would die for sure...
After the 9 strikes were over, Gu Jin heaved a sigh of relief.
Her silky smooth hair was now singed and frayed, her once pristine robes tattered, and her body bruised and exhausted from the onslaught of the tribulation.
She slowly stood up, feeling the ache in every muscle.
Her magical armor had held up as much as it could, but even that was not enough to prevent the damage.
Her hands trembled slightly.
"Finally...done."
However, Gu Jin’s happiness was short-lived because she noticed that the black clouds weren’t leaving.
"Space..."
"Yes...master?" The space’s voice was trembling.
"Is...it perhaps possible...that you have made a mistake when you said only 9 strikes would fall on me?" Gu Jin gulped.
"Master...I think...I think...the number of thunder strikes would be equivalent to the life force you have absorbed." The space answered in a timid voice.
Gu Jin: "..." Tell me...you are lying.
Space: "..." I am not.
"How many life force has I have sucked till now?" Gu Jin asked in a trembling voice.
"Atleast...3 million." The space answered.
Gu Jin’s eyes widened in horror.
3 million?
The f*ck!
How can she endure so much?
Won’t she will die?
She may die at the 15th strike.
The black clouds didn’t give Gu Jin any chance to think and started to strike at her.
The 10th and 11th strikes fell on Gu Jin, making her skin turn charred black.
Before the 12th strike could fall on her, Gu Jin started to run into the forest to avoid the strikes. But it was a futile attempt. Each and every strike landed on Gu Jin as if it had eyes.
To Gu Jin’s surprise, she had endured more than 19 strikes, yet she was capable of running.
Though it was true, that her body was at its limit and her organs were about to explode, an idea appeared in her mind.
She stopped running and decided to try the suicidal method.
"Master, what are you doing? You shouldn’t stop running!" The space shouted.
"Running can make no difference." Gu Jin said with a calm expression.
"But..." the space’s voice trembled with fear
"I’ve endured this much," she said, her voice a quiet growl.
"There’s no way out. If I keep running, I’ll eventually collapse. I might as well try the only option left."
Her body screamed in pain, her charred skin peeling from the relentless lightning strikes.
Each breath she took was labored, every step heavier than the last, but her mind was sharper than ever.
She knew what had to be done, no matter how dangerous.
"Master, please reconsider!" the space pleaded.
"Absorbing the lightning... you don’t have the thunder element! It’ll destroy you—"
"Silence!" Gu Jin snapped, her voice cutting through the space’s protests like a blade. "If I die, I die on my own terms."
She raised her arms toward the black clouds, her eyes burning with defiance.
"Come!" she roared at the sky. "If you’re going to kill me, do it now!"
The storm responded immediately.
A massive bolt of lightning shot down from the heavens, crackling with raw, destructive energy.
Maybe Gu Jin truly overestimated her pain tolerance because the next second, she directly fell to the ground.
Her body started to tremble from the effect of the strikes, and she coughed up blood. Her face was burnt beyond recognition.
Gu Jin: "..." Damn it.
"Hahaha! I truly have never seen any woman who is so intent on committing suicide." A feminine yet strong voice mocked Gu Jin.
