Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Erinyes Makes A Move
When he noticed no one among the survivors was moving, he raised an eyebrow and asked,
"Why are you all standing? Go and attack."
As Lamashtu’s words echoed through the clearing, a shiver ran down the spines of the survivors and soldiers alike.
His casual display of power, the ease with which he had devoured the man, left the crowd paralyzed with fear.
Lamashtu’s sharp blue eyes flicked back and forth between the frozen crowd and the limp body of Gu Jin, held protectively in Si Kai’s arms.
"Well?" he prodded, his tone dripping with amusement and menace.
"Is no one brave enough to sacrifice her for their own lives?"
The survivors looked around nervously, hesitant.
Some still harbored thoughts of betraying Si Kai and handing over Gu Jin, but after witnessing Lamashtu’s terrifying strength, they hesitated.
What if he wasn’t true to his word? What if handing Gu Jin over would mean their deaths, too?
Lamashtu’s eyes turned cold and he suddenly said,
"Whoever doesn’t make a decision in the next 5 seconds will end up in my stomach. Decide what you want.
Either you after that woman named Gu Jin’s life or defend her. I just want to watch a show."
His words made the hearts of the survivors chill down.
Those who were hesitating instantly walked in Si Kai’s direction.
A pathetic fight broke out.
A fight between the survivors who were hardly at advanced rank between the trained soldiers who were exhausted after the fight at the magic academy.
Fear-driven, the desperate crowd, though weak and barely armed, rushed toward Si Kai and the soldiers in a frenzy, driven by a primal instinct for survival.
Si Kai still weakened from his injuries, gritted his teeth and braced himself, trying to shield Gu Jin with his body.
His muscles screamed in pain, but he refused to let go of her.
If these cowards were going to turn against them, then he would fight with every ounce of strength left in him.
The first wave of survivors, wielding makeshift weapons and driven by fear, lunged at Si Kai.
But before they could get close, Feng Boyu and Ren Fulin were already in motion.
Lamashtu laughed,
"Oh, my lord! Look how pathetic they look..."
Feng Boyu, breathing heavily, glanced at Si Kai, shouting over the noise,
"We can’t keep this up! There’s too many of them!"
Ren Fulin, beside him, swung his sword in a wide arc, knocking back three survivors who had gotten too close.
"We need to get out of here, now! If this keeps up, they’ll overwhelm us!"
Si Kai knew that if they stayed, they would all be swallowed by the mass of desperate bodies.
He gritted his teeth.
"Let’s leave!."
Feng Boyu and Ren Fulin exchanged quick glances and nodded.
With a final swing of his blade, Feng Boyu cut through the last attacker in their path, clearing a narrow escape route into the forest.
"Go!" he urged. "We’ll cover you."
Si Kai hesitated for a split second, unwilling to leave the others behind, but he knew there was no choice.
With every ounce of strength he had left, he hoisted Gu Jin over his shoulder and began to run, his heart pounding in his chest.
The soldiers moved in formation, forming a protective barrier around Si Kai as they pushed through the dense foliage.
Behind them, the sounds of battle began to fade, but Lamashtu’s mocking laughter echoed eerily through the trees, sending shivers down their spines.
"Oh, how delightful!" Lamashtu called after them.
"Run, little humans. Run! As for you on the opposing team(the survivors who were attacking Gu Jin) if you don’t bring that woman named Gu Jin to me within the next twenty minutes, I will kill every single one of you."
His voice, though distant, carried a chilling certainty that left no room for doubt.
The survivor’s pulse quickened. They knew Lamashtu wasn’t bluffing.
"What are we waiting for?" one survivor shouted, gripping a rusty blade with trembling hands.
"We have to go after them! We can’t let him kill us!"
A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd.
"Foolish mortals," Lamashtu hissed, his voice dripping with derision.
"You have twenty minutes to decide. Fail me, and I promise it will be the last decision you ever make."
With that, he turned his attention back to the fleeing soldiers, a wicked gleam in his eye.

Si Kai and his companions pushed onward, the trees thickening around them.
They finally reached a narrow path leading to the river, the sound of rushing water a beacon of hope.
"Over here!" Feng Boyu called, veering off the main path.
"We can use the river to mask our scent!"
They hurried to the bank, the cool water lapping against their legs as they crouched low, trying to catch their breath.
"Do you think we lost them?" Ren Fulin asked, peering into the shadows.
Si Kai shook his head.
"Not yet. He’s relentless. We need to come up with a plan."
Before anyone could respond, a chilling breeze swept through the clearing, sending shivers down their spines.
The oppressive darkness thickened around them, and Si Kai could feel it—a palpable presence creeping closer as if Lamashtu were right on their heels.
"Do you feel that?" Si Kai whispered, his voice barely audible.
"Yes," Feng Boyu replied, dread etching lines on his face. "He’s close."
...............................
As the twenty minutes drew to a close, the survivors found themselves at the edge of the forest, panting and disheveled.
Panic surged through their ranks as they realized the futility of their efforts.
"We can’t let him down!" one man shouted, desperation creeping into his voice. "We can’t die like this!"
Just then, Lamashtu emerged from the shadows, his form imposing and malevolent.
The survivors fell silent, fear washing over them like a cold wave.
"Time’s up," he sneered, the amusement evident in his tone.
"You’ve failed to bring me the woman. Now, I will collect my due."
One by one, he ate all the survivors, he didn’t show mercy to any of them. Within the next 3 minutes, he ate all the survivors and patted his stomach with disgust,
"How...disgusting. Ah...looks like now, I have to go after that woman’s group on my own."
His voice was filled with disappointment but in a closer look, his eyes were filled with malice and interest.
He shook his shoulders and a pair of wings emerged out of his back.
Using his sharp nose he sniffed and started to follow where Si Kai and the others were,
Seeing them trying to wash their scent, made him laugh.
Si Kai and others who knew Lamashtu were around and looked around but found no one.
Suddenly, Lamashtu’s laughter echoed through the forest, chilling them to the bone.
"Oh, how delightful it is to see you running! But don’t think you can escape me!"
With a flick of his wings, he appeared before them, blocking their path.
Lamashtu grinned wickedly.
"Did you really think you could outrun me? I must admit, your efforts are amusing."
The soldiers braced themselves, weapons raised, but Si Kai felt a chill creeping up his spine.
Lamashtu’s eyes sparkled with sadistic glee, a predator savoring the chase.
"You’ve made it this far, but now the fun begins," he taunted.
"Shall I show you what happens to those who defy me?"
Without warning, he lunged forward, mouth open wide, ready to snatch Gu Jin from Si Kai’s grasp.
Panic surged through Si Kai as he tried to step back, but before Lamashtu’s monstrous tongue could touch her, something unexpected happened.
A force, invisible and powerful, surged through the air.
Lamashtu’s tongue stopped mid-air, held fast by an unseen grip.
The creature’s eyes widened in shock as he tried to retract his tongue, but it remained firmly anchored.
"What is this?!" Lamashtu roared, fury twisting his features.
Suddenly a smile appeared on his face and before he apologized,
"I apologize my lord. I forgot she was your prey and I have no right to have a taste of her."
Si Kai who had hoped something miraculous would happen, felt cold all over.
He looked up in the sky and saw Erinyes who had lifted his one finger in Lamashtu’s direction.
All the hopes Si Kai had were dashed.
"Why the f*ck are you after my sister!" He shouted with hatred in his eyes.
If a look could kill Erinyes, would have died more than a million times.
Erinyes didn’t answer and lifted his finger to snatch Gu Jin away.
"He has a strong psychic element."Ren Fulin muttered with a frown.
He motions at Feng Boyu who tries to build a psychic barrier around Gu Jin. However, to Feng Boyu’s dismay, the method fails miserably and he starts to bleed from seven orifices.
Feng Boyu’s eyes widen with disbelief, while Si Kai holds Gu Jin so hard, that he is levitated in the air along with Gu Jin.
