The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 155: Soul Essence
Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Soul Essence
The director hesitated for a moment before nodding reluctantly.
"Fine," he said with a heavy sigh.
"But only for tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll have to figure something out."
The guard nodded gratefully, knowing that at least for tonight, the little girl would have a roof over her head and a warm meal in her belly.
He went back outside to fetch the little girl, who was still standing in front of the orphanage with a blank expression.
"Come on," he said gently, extending a hand to her.
"Let’s get you inside where it’s warm."
The little girl hesitated for a moment before taking his hand, allowing him to lead her into the orphanage.
As they entered, the warmth of the fire and the smell of food enveloped them, offering a brief respite from the cold, harsh world outside.
The guard stayed with the little girl for a while, making sure she was settled in and comfortable before bidding her goodnight.
Alone once again, the little girl found herself lying in a small cot in a crowded dormitory, surrounded by other children who were either busy doing some work or were busy learning.
No one bothered to talk to her.
A part of it was because they were shy and were expecting the girl to take the initiative, another part was because they were afraid that the little girl would stay with them, after all, they were running low on supplies, how could their orphanage afford to raise one more child?
And another part was because of the girl’s depressing aura.
The little girl couldn’t help but feel a sense of despair wash over her as she realized just how alone she truly was in the world.
But as she drifted off to sleep, she couldn’t help but cling to the faint glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, things would get better someday.
...
Gu Jin went to explore the market.
Just like the last time she hoarded seeds, low-grade defensive artifacts, and some unique items.
Last time when she was fighting with the beast she realized that they leave a soul essence once they die.
These soul essences were very essential for making artifacts or weapons.
At the same time, these soul essences could be sold for 10 million to 1 billion depending on the class!
The last time when she defeated a Soul Class beast, she didn’t have much regret when she destroyed its body and was happy she had enough power to defeat a Soul Class beast.
However, when she knew that the body of a Soul Class beast could be sold for 20 million and the soul essence of Soul Class could be sold for 50 million, her heart was filled with regret.
She lost 70 million!
With that money, she could have bought 7 mystic seeds.
Gu Jin knew that her awakening of the Fire element meant that she was in trouble. If at every stage that she crossed for each element, she is able to awaken an element, then she would have to buy more than 7 mystic seeds, more than 7 solar veins, and more than 7 Intermediate Rank resources!
That means she would need at least 5 billion to just reach the advanced rank of each element!
If she keeps on losing 70 million won’t she be one step backward in the race to accumulate the wealth of 5 billion?
Hence she decided that next time she would be careful next time and not burn the body and collect the soul essence.
However, when she knew the soul essence collector storage space, her ears stood up.
"How much?" Gu Jin asked with disbelief.
The shopkeeper said with a kind smile,
"Ah, you’re interested in the soul essence collector storage space? It’s quite a valuable item indeed.
For a basic model, it’ll cost you around 100 million, but the more advanced ones can go up to 500 million or even more depending on their capabilities."
Gu Jin: "..." Why don’t you rob a bank?
For some reason, she suddenly remembered how she had scammed Long Yifan. She had asked for an artifact worth 900 million in exchange for two black stones...
Maybe it was karma!
Gu Jin coughed and said,
"I will buy the basic storage space."
Gu Jin’s mind raced as she calculated the potential benefits of owning such a device.
With a soul essence collector storage space, she could safely store and transport soul essences without the risk of losing them or damaging them in battle.
"Okay, then the total will be 101.1 million yuan."
"Didn’t you say that it was of 100 million?" Gu Jin questioned.
The shopkeeper still kept a smile on his face and said,
"Oh, 1.1 million is the taxes."
Gu Jin nodded, understanding that taxes were a common occurrence in transactions.
However, this didn’t stop her from becoming angry.
"Ma’am, would you like the bonus gift that comes along with the basic storage space?"
Gu Jin was instantly delighted.
This broken shop wasn’t bad. At least they give her some more items!
"Sure."
"Okay, so your total will be 102 million." The shopkeeper said.
"I’m sorry, but I thought bonus gifts were supposed to be free," Gu Jin stated firmly, her patience wearing thin.
The shopkeeper’s smile faltered slightly, but he quickly recovered and said,
"Well, ma’am, you see, the bonus gift is indeed complimentary, but there are handling and processing fees involved."
Gu Jin narrowed her eyes, not buying the explanation.
"Handling and processing fees? That wasn’t mentioned before."
The shopkeeper shifted uncomfortably under Gu Jin’s gaze.
"Well, it’s standard procedure for bonus gifts to have associated fees. But I assure you, the bonus gift is well worth the additional cost."
Gu Jin sighed, realizing that arguing further might not get her anywhere.
She reluctantly agreed to pay the extra amount, knowing that she needed the soul essence collector storage space and whatever bonus gift came with it.
"Fine, I’ll pay the 102 million yuan," Gu Jin said, reaching for her wallet to retrieve the required funds.
She felt as if someone had pierced her heart when she transferred the money.
The shopkeeper nodded, relieved that the matter was settled. He processed the transaction and handed Gu Jin the basic storage space along with the bonus gift.
"Thank you for your purchase, ma’am. I’m sure you’ll find the bonus gift to be quite useful," the shopkeeper said with a forced smile.
Gu Jin simply nodded, not in the mood to engage in further conversation. She took the items and quickly left the shop.
As she explored the market, Gu Jin suddenly remembered the little girl she had seen the last time.
Unconsciously she walked up to the place where she had seen the little girl last time.
Instead of the little girl, an old woman was sitting in her place.
Gu Jin paused.
Did she the little girl shift to some other place?
The old woman saw Gu Jin and smiled kindly,
"Hello."
Gu Jin was a bit surprised. She nodded back at the old woman.
As she assessed the old woman, Gu Jin frowned.
The old woman’s aura was very gentle. It was gentle enough to make a person lower their guard.
Subconsciously Gu Jin replied to every question the old woman asked her.
"I see that you were staring at my position for such a long time, is there anything that you want to ask about?"
Gu Jin was a bit hesitant before saying,
"Before you a little girl used to set up a stall, do you perhaps know where she is?"
The old woman stared at Gu Jin for a while and asked in a cautious tone,
"Why are you asking about her?"
Hearing the faint alertness in her voice, Gu Jin knew that the old woman was misunderstanding her intention and she said calmly,
"I am just curious. Last time when I met her she wasn’t in a good state and I was wondering how she is now."
"Why are you concerned about her?"
Gu Jin turned silent.
Why was she concerned? Well, it was a good question, however, she too didn’t know why she was concerned about a girl she had only met once.
The old woman smiled and said,
"Girl if you don’t tell me why are you concerned about her, I won’t tell you her location."
Gu Jin pursued her lips and said,
"I will leave then."
The old woman didn’t stop Gu Jin and nodded at her.
Gu Jin left the area.
Gu Jin shopped for some more time, before returning to the Long Mansion.
The thoughts of the little girl kept on bugging her.
After returning to the Long mansion, she noticed that the servants were much more relaxed than the day before and couldn’t help but become curious.
As she entered the living room, she heard a maid gossiping,
"Has Young Master returned to the capital for real this time now?"
"Yes. I have heard that he had returned due to the engagement ceremony."
