Chapter 176: Chapter 174: The Body You See Is Your Own (Third Update)
"Why have you become so cowardly and incompetent now? Was it that woman and your daughter who drained your masculine spirit?"
Upon hearing the tone in which the armor spoke, Lei Wanchun immediately shouted, "It’s got nothing to do with them. If you have a problem, come at me. No matter if you want to kill or flay, I won’t even frown, but you can’t harm my wife or daughter..."
Before he could finish, the armor crouched down, leaning closer to Lei Wanchun, and Lei Wanchun, frightened, quickly used a spirit talisman for protection. "Don’t come over, I have a spirit talisman that will scatter your soul in a moment."
The armor abruptly stood up, and a mix of sadness, anger, and disappointment emerged from the darkness of the helmet, as if Lei Wanchun were a heartless man, and it a forsaken wife.
Even Lei Wanchun sensed a hint of reproach in its expression, stammering, "Why are you looking at me like that? I’m using this spirit talisman for self-defense. Aren’t you scaring me with a corpse inside you?"
Clearly, it was you who captured me, so why does it seem like I wronged you.
"I’m not scaring you. The corpse you see is your own."
The armor said, crouching down again. Lei Wanchun looked up and saw through the helmet a rotting, sour-smelling corpse, eyes bulging, and corpse worms crawling out.
He twitched his mouth, suppressed the nausea churning in his chest, and pinched his palm to keep himself from fainting.
"You must be mistaken. I’m alive and well, and the corpse inside you is decaying. How can it possibly be me?"
The armor snorted coldly, the sound echoing as it slumped down in front of him, "There isn’t a corpse inside me at all. Others can’t see a corpse, only you can, because in your past life, you died inside this armor."
Lei Wanchun’s eyes widened. "You say my past life?"
"That’s right, in your past life you were a cavalryman who died on the battlefield. I was your armor. Before each campaign, you would meticulously polish me, making these parts shine like a mirror. On the battlefield, I was your most trusted shield," the armor stiffly raised its hand, patting the chain mail on its chest, "Here I stopped arrows for you, here I stopped blades for you, then you died, many comrades died, even the General died. Everyone was buried in a grand tomb, watching over the Northwest frontier, protecting the General. I thought we would be together forever, but later your body rotted away in my embrace, until one day, when the tomb was opened, and I saw the light of day, I unexpectedly gained consciousness, but you were just a pile of bones casually tossed aside, so I swore to find you."
Lei Wanchun listened and his mouth gaped wider and wider, almost unable to speak, muttering after a long while:
"According to you, I should have been reincarnated, so you should be..."
Before he could finish, the shabby factory doors creaked open and a few police officers entered to inspect.
Lei Wanchun, excited, stood up and opened his mouth to call for help, only to find no one could hear him, and no one could see him.
"What’s going on? Officer, look at me, I’m right here."
The armor stood up, snorted coldly, "It’s useless; no one will see you, and no one will rescue you."
"Are you crazy? What kind of spell have you cast? Hurry and undo it! I’m still waiting to go home and reunite with my wife and kids!"
"And what about me?" the armor demanded sternly.
"You... you... what relation do we have? Even if there was something, that was in a past life, over several past lives already. We’ve been unrelated for ages!"
The depths of the armor’s helmet erupted with the fire of abandonment: "There is! You vowed to achieve great merit, to enshrine me once you were made a marquis, letting your descendants worship, you can’t break your promise!"
"Oh, come on!" Lei Wanchun stamped his feet anxiously, "How can I make you understand? I don’t care who I was before, whatever Wang Tu told you, bottom line in this life we’re unrelated, look at how cowardly I am, am I really fit to be a marquis? You... you’re better off finding a new master, besides, it’s a time of peace now, no wars, and even if there were wars, who would wear your armor..."
"The troops have been regrouped!" the armor said seriously, "The General has awakened. Leading the army, they are ready to strike, you can’t desert!"
Lei Wanchun stared at him dazedly, then burst into laughter.
This armor seemed somewhat abnormal.
Just earlier it said the General died, comrades died, clearly having met a disastrous battle that wiped out the entire army. Then the arriving reinforcements dug a grand tomb to bury them.
This was already a good outcome in ancient battlefields; soldiers who died often went unburied, left for beasts to devour.
Noticing the searching officers were about to leave, Lei Wanchun couldn’t help shouting.
The armor, infuriated, grabbed Lei Wanchun, but was instantly repelled by the spirit talisman, then it raged, letting out a roar. Several armor-clad cavalry ghost shadows wielding Mo Blades and astride fine steeds leapt out, charging the police.
"Captain Li!" a policeman shouted instinctively, pulling out his gun to fire wildly at the ghost shadow.
Bullets passed through the bodies of the ghost shadows, hitting the abandoned machines behind them.
Lei Wanchun, terrified, quickly hugged his head and lay down.
The ghost shadows remained unharmed, rearing their steeds, brandishing their Mo Blades, as they prepared to cut down over the officers.
Suddenly, a creaking sound came, and the door of the abandoned factory opened.
A small figure walked in, flicking out five copper coins that struck the hooves of the steeds.
The ghost shadows were instantly toppled from their horses, Yun Qi quickly tossed several spirit talismans, affixing them to the foreheads of the ghost shadows.
The ghost shadows roared loudly, turning into a wisp of blue smoke.
Captain Li and his team touched their foreheads, wiping cold sweat in relief.
"Damn, first time in my life getting ambushed by ghost shadows."
"Yun Qi, what were those things?"
Yun Qi didn’t answer, instead staring at the armor invisible to the others, and asked in a childlike yet serious tone, "What did you mean earlier when you said the troops have been regrouped?"
"Huh? Is someone there?" Captain Li and his team looked over in confusion, craning their necks.
A golden glow appeared at Yun Qi’s fingertip, drawing a golden barrier in mid-air.
This time, everyone saw the armor and Lei Wanchun.
Lei Wanchun was tearfully overjoyed, "Officer, I’ve finally waited for you, little Qi, I regret it, I should have listened to you earlier..."
"Don’t make a sound yet!" Yun Qi sternly interrupted him. Then looked at the armor again, asking once more, "What did you mean earlier when you said the troops have been regrouped?"
The armor was visibly displeased, "Who are you? How dare you speak rudely to my master?"
"Hey!" Lei Wanchun turned, scolding the armor, "How can you be rude to my lifesaver?"
"Oh." The armor immediately nodded obediently towards Yun Qi.
The young policeman nearby gave Yun Qi an admiring thumbs-up, "Little one, you’re the boss here."
