Chapter 155: Chapter 153 This Cat Calls Me Grandpa (Second Update)

"After moving to a new home, I started reflecting on my issues, thinking that as a pet to humans, I should occasionally act cute. So, I became a bit more well-behaved and learned from other pets how to please humans. But the owner of the second household wanted me to perform tricks every time guests came over. I’m just a little cat, and just being cute takes a lot of effort. Why should I perform tricks?"

"What kind of tricks did they want you to perform?"

"They wanted me to stand up, meow, and give a bow with my two paws to beg guests for food. I’m a cat, not a dog! I refused, and the guest even complained that I wasn’t smart. So..."

"Did you curse at them again?" Yun Qi asked.

"Yup, I cursed both the owner and the guest with ’screw you,’ and that guest’s face turned green."

"What about the third home?"

"A girl owned that one. Every time she came home, she wanted to hold me and make me kiss her. All the other little cats had fish jerky, but I didn’t, because I wouldn’t kiss her. She even had other little cats demonstrate how to kiss, but I pretended not to understand. She said I was the biggest idiot in the cat world and wanted to get my head checked. I got so mad that..." The Cat Demon lowered his head, his voice so small it was like a mosquito’s hum.

"You cursed at them again!" Yun Qiuce filled in.

"Exactly." The Cat Demon shrugged indifferently, "Overall, I don’t think it’s my problem. You humans are just too weird."

Yun Qiuce snorted coldly, "I told you, this one’s basically not adoptable. We found him owners with extremely high standards, and he still cursed at people. Who would accept a mouthy little feline?"

Yun Qi said, "What do we do then? We can’t keep him at home forever."

Yun Qiuce: "This afternoon, Uncle will take you to a place with lots of people. This is the last chance; if no one adopts him, then we can give up."

The cat lazily hummed, resting his fat, round chin on his front paws, squinting his eyes.

Yun Qi propped her small hands on her knees, leaning forward to look at him.

Yun Qiuce opened the door, about to leave, but seeing this scene, he laughed, "Alright, Qi, I think you’re wasting your time. He’s a Cat Demon who has cultivated for hundreds of years. Even though his cultivation isn’t high, that’s just natural talent. But a demon is a demon, and a human is a human. A demon couldn’t possibly become a qualified pet, and a human couldn’t possibly like a demon. You’re just too naive."

"Who knows, Uncle. Actually, a long time ago, our ancestors were able to live on the same land with demons. It’s not impossible now either." Yun Qi tilted her little head, speaking earnestly.

Yun Qiuce chuckled, shaking his head, thinking Qi’s great, but after all, she’s just a child.

Only children can hold unrealistic fantasies about the world.

Thinking this, he pushed the door open and left.

Only Yun Qi and the Cat Demon were left in the room.

The Cat Demon looked like he was dozing off, but after Yun Qiuce left the room, he suddenly stood up, and in his large cat eyes, Yun Qi’s small figure was reflected.

"Um..." As Yun Qi was about to open the door to leave, the Cat Demon suddenly spoke.

"Hmm?" Yun Qi turned her head, catching a fleeting trace of sadness in the cat’s eyes.

Unexpectedly, this rogue-like, greasy man of a cat demon would also have moments of emotional downturn.

Yun Qi walked forward obediently, eyes clear, "What’s the matter?"

"Why don’t humans like me? I’ve really tried hard. When I was straying, adults would run when they saw me. Even kids threw stones at me, and I never scratched anyone. Later, I was adopted by different owners, but no one has ever liked me." The Cat Demon sat up despondently, his eyes catching the radiant morning light outside, revealing the vulnerability beneath his coarse and unruly exterior.

Yun Qi closed the door, sat beside him, and looked out at the morning light with him.

"Yun Qi, do you think there are beings in the world - no, demons - who nobody will ever like from birth, born only to be disliked and hated?"

The Cat Demon’s voice was particularly clear in the cool autumn morning.

Yun Qi didn’t respond, her big eyes shining, blinking.

After a long time, the Cat Demon lowered his head in shame, "Alright, I get it, it’s me."

What answered him was the sweet, crisp laughter unique to children, very much like wind chimes in the breeze.

"No, you’re not. No one in this world is born to be disliked. You think you’ve been abandoned by this world, but it might just need a little more effort, and you’ll be good."

The Cat Demon smiled bitterly, "You don’t need to comfort me. Your uncle is right; no one would ever like me."

Yun Qi didn’t say a word; she reached out with her small hand and poked the Cat Demon’s head. "Qi never lies."

In the afternoon, with the autumn breeze refreshing, the sky was high and clouds thin.

Yun Qiuce drove Qi to a place—Hai City’s cat and dog market.

This was the largest pet trading market in Hai City, mainly dealing with cats and dogs.

Due to the crowds, there were often adoption events happening.

Yun Qiuce found a spot and placed the cage with the Cat Demon in front, with a big sign labeled "Adoption."

"Qi, let’s be clear; this is your last chance. Don’t waste time on such things after this," Yun Qiuce said lazily.

Yun Qi didn’t respond, focusing attentively on the Cat Demon, who looked unenergetic as he lay in the cage. Anyone who didn’t know might think he was a sick cat.

"Hey, you need to move a bit, at least let out a meow or two. That way, people will notice you," Yun Qi leaned down, sweetly coaxing.

"You meow if you want, not me!" the Cat Demon muffled grumpily, hiding his head under his paws.

Seeing him not move, Yun Qi took a small stick and gently poked him.

"What?" the Cat Demon grumbled.

"Move a bit, okay?" Little Dumpling urged again.

Another poke.

"What on earth are you doing? I said I don’t want to move, so I won’t." The Cat Demon stood up abruptly, frowning and shouting at Yun Qi, "Kids are kids, there are things your little brain can’t understand. No matter how much I move or meow, no one will like me."

"That’s not true. How do you know it’s impossible if you don’t try?" Yun Qi blinked seriously.

"You kid, why can’t you understand," the Cat Demon couldn’t help but roar, "You humans only like the cute, obedient, and soft. I artfully avoid all these adjectives. I’m bad-tempered, can’t act cute, can’t grasp human preferences, and naturally, no one likes me. Does that satisfy you?"

The Cat Demon’s roar carried immense anger, as if he was releasing all he had endured over the past few days. His white chest heaving violently.

He didn’t speak directly but used "meow meow meow," a language only Yun Qi could understand. She said nothing, looking at him seriously through her misty-eyed gaze.

Time seemed to freeze, and she felt the Cat Demon’s anger and disappointment.

Disappointment in himself.

Suddenly, a man’s voice broke the silence,

"Little girl, is this cat up for adoption?"

The Cat Demon, still fuming, caught the human’s voice and his anger flared up again. He turned his head, furiously roaring at the man, "Screw you!"

The man was caught off guard by the yell and instinctively stepped back.

The Cat Demon sneered, turning back to tease Yun Qi, "See? No one would like a cat like me. They’re all scared of me, they hate me..."

Before he finished, they heard the man pulling his female companion over, "Hey, did you hear that? This cat just insulted me!"

Yun Qi: "???"

Yun Qiuce: "???"
