Chapter 490: The seventh lock
Chapter 490: The seventh lock
Elliana reached her room, her gaze falling on the dress that the maid said Mr. Marino asked a tailor to prepare.
She held the fabric in her hand, her mind going back to how he let another woman take off his mask, and her heart squeezed painfully.
She slid down the side of the bed.
Thousands of emotions crossed her heart within that split second, the prime one being tearing them apart.
Circe became worried about their human counterpart who wasn’t crying for the first time.
Elliana was just sitting there as if her body was in shock. Her mind was numb, almost empty as if she forced herself into some parallel universe to save her soul from this kind of pain.
Elliana closed her eyes for a second, smiling softly. She was losing her mind, but she wouldn’t cry. She told herself.
Leila told her that the people observing her heard her cries, and that was the last thing she wanted to happen, her tormentors to see how broken and pathetic her life was turning.
With her hands covering her face, she took a deep shaky breath. It was getting hard for her to even breathe and her lips whimpered.
Elliana gulped and opened her eyes when she felt a strong burning in her hand, and she looked at the cross burn mark.
It hurt her. Elliana instinctively placed her hand on the burn mark, her brain immediately turning numb. It felt like something suctioned her brain.
’You are more than capable of unlocking your own seals. All you have to do is touch this cross Mark on your hand when it highlights and burns -’ Elliana remembered Leila’s words, her hands reaching for her throat as she wrapped her fingers around her neck to soothe the burning sensation.
’N-Nathaniel,’ Elliana whispered in pain.
The man in question, who was still sleeping because he slept late, immediately opened his eyes when he heard her painful voice in his sleep.
He raised his hand, wiping the air, and a screen immediately appeared in front of him, his pupils dilating when he saw Elliana struggling on the ground and unable to breathe.
"Damn it!" Nathaniel stood and wore his shirt. He was about to leave when his gaze met with Azura who appeared in front of him and held his hand.
"No!" Azura said firmly.
"What are you doing? She needs me!" Nathaniel shouted at Queen Azura, who shook her head.
"She doesn’t need you. She needs peace. I was watching her a few minutes ago because I wanted to know her better and knew she had woken up. She saw her husband hugging another woman. I couldn’t believe what was happening. It looks like Elliana heard their talk, and Sebastian is planning to marry another woman. Let her deal with this pain herself," Azura said.
Nathaniel looked at the girl, who was crawling towards the nightstand where the jug of water was kept, and he felt like punching the wall in helplessness.
Elliana grabbed the glass of water and was about to bring the glass close to her lips when her hands trembled, and the glass slipped from her hands, making her lean her back on the bed as she gasped for air, trying to take deep breaths like Nathaniel had told her to do whenever she felt trouble breathing.
She kept sitting there with her eyes closed, taking Circe’s help to channel her energy to her heart to heal what was bleeding terribly inside her.
But was it really possible? To heal this wound that was caused by this betrayal?
Her mind started to turn dark as she lost her consciousness, making Nathaniel sigh and look at Azura.
"She unlocked the seventh lock herself. Do you not understand what it means? Her recovery rate is increasing with each passing second," Nathaniel said, and Azura sighed as she looked at the girl with a concerned sigh.
"You are worrying about her locks, and I am worrying about her powers. You very well know these locks, this cross on her skin doesn’t appear without provocation. Her powers have started to show their true colors," Azura’s comment made Nathaniel raise his brows.
"Do you mean to say that Elliana’s powers took advantage of the situation?" Nathaniel asked and Azura hummed.
"But do you know what I am more worried about?"
"What?" Nathaniel asked, expecting the worst.
"This happened right when Elliana was so heartbroken. I think we should prepare ourselves for what is about to happen next. Gather your manga, because you will need a lot of it to calm her down since your powers are connected," Azura said, and Nathaniel shook his head.
"It’s Sebastian we are talking about. She won’t hurt him," Nathaniel said, though his heart was unsure itself.
"And I never mentioned she is going to hurt Sebastian, Nath," Azura took a deep breath.
After what felt like an eternity, Elliana opened her eyes, blinking away the weird haze from her mind as she remembered she was to get ready for the ceremony and stood from her place with great difficulty.
The broken glass stabbed her foot, making her hiss as she fell on the bed in pain.
She looked at her foot and pulled out the shard of the glass before looking at the dress, something else catching her eyes.
It was a note in the middle of her bed.
She grabbed the note that was placed where Leila had been sitting earlier, her eyes widening when she read what was written.
Before she could do anything, the note vanished from her hand, and she cleared her throat.
Knock! Knock!
She heard a knock on her door and she wiped her cheeks.
Her gaze fell on the carpet, and she quickly threw half of her blanket on the ground.
Elliana stood from the bed as the door opened, making it look like she was folding the blanket.
"Princess - Hmm? What is this? You haven’t gotten ready yet? Everyone would be leaving in 5 minutes, baby. What were you doing? Was it because you couldn’t sleep from nervousness? And why are you doing this stuff, sweety? The maid will do it. Leave it," Freya looked at the girl, amused, completely unaware of things brewing in Elliana’s heart.
"Can I come a bit late? I will be there at the time of the crowning for sure," Elliana asked and Freya, who saw the custom dress on the bed, thought that the girl wanted to get ready properly for her husband and smiled.
"Okay, sweetheart. Do you need any help?" She asked, but Elliana shook her head.
"I will be fine. Also, I want to surprise Mr. Marino. The venue is only 10 minutes away. Will you convey the message to everyone that I already left for the venue with you so that no one comes looking for me?" Elliana asked, and Freya shook her head at the girl before smiling.
"You kids love to play, don’t you? I will do that. But don’t be too late. Sebastian would want to be crowned in front of the person he loves so much. I know the guy is too stuck up to agree, but we all can see he loves you," Freya said, and Elliana forced a smile on her face.
"I know," She whispered, pretending to be shy, and the lady chuckled.
"Be quick," Freya said before leaving the girl alone.
Elliana immediately let go of the blanket and dropped the smile off her face. She didn’t want to smile at anyone anymore.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"Send the package to my room," Elliana said and ended the call.
She looked at the embroidered blue dress with golden embroidery and a large golden rose on the left shoulder.
A scoff left her mouth. If it had been any other time, she would’ve really loved the thought he put into the dress for her, knowing all the elements she loved.
It wasn’t long before she got into the dress and clicked her fingers to settle her makeup and hair.
The knock on the door made her walk to the door quickly, and she opened the door to Prince Vincenzo.
"Is everything here?" Elliana asked.
On the contrary, the man who was shocked to see her looking so beautiful in the dress cleared his throat and hummed.
"It’s everything. Are you sure - Nevermind," Prince Vincenzo said before he walked inside and placed the things on the bed, his gaze falling on the broken glass and a little blood on one of the broken pieces.
"Did you get hurt? Show me," He said, immediately turning to Elliana, and the latter smiled.
"Are you talking about physical pain, emotional pain, or mental pain?" She asked, and the man sighed.
"Are you ready to leave?" He asked, not wanting to argue with her, and Elliana smiled.
"Of course, I wouldn’t want to miss his crowning. I want to see him win in life for real," Elliana smiled sadly before looking at Vincenzo.
"Can you wait for me downstairs? There is something I want to write for Mr. Marino. I promised him his gift today," Elliana said, and Vincenzo hummed before leaving.
It would’ve been a good gift if she was only leaving because of her different species, but now that he was betraying her too, her gift needed to be special, no?
