Chapter 340: A little wishful
"Student Elliana, focus. This isn’t how you are going to master this method," Yaretzi shouted along with the other teachers, and Elliana looked at her for a few seconds before humming.
They could feel the change in the girl over time, but today it was almost as if something inside her was not right.
Her eyes held a glint that was neither normal nor optimum for this technique, but with no knowledge of what kind of beastly powers she held inside her, it was nearly impossible to try a new method and not fail it.
Jalizana was especially called to the University for today’s practice because they wanted to optimize the water shield around her, the shield that Elliana had no idea about.
Elliana looked down from the rock she was sitting on.
The flapping sounds of the crocodiles trying to reach her to eat her and falling miserably in the water with each failed attempt echoed in the surroundings. Their amber marble-like eyes, looked at her as if she was their next meal, and they would do anything to get to her.
She turned around towards the other students and noticed how no alligators were trying to attack them. These monsters were only roaming below her rock.
Her heartbeat was quite loud and fast, but rather than being scared or showing it, she was just looking at them as if daring them to touch her.
"What is she doing? She has been looking at those alligators for some time. It’s almost as if they won’t eat her but the other way around," one of the teachers said, and Madonna rolled her eyes before she looked at her other students who were sitting with their eyes closed on the rocks.
It was a technique to increase their focus even amidst the most dangerous situations and loud noises. It was crucial for witches to not lose control of their powers to avoid unnecessary fatal results.
The other students were doing quite well at it because they were the real fifth-grade students with their energies partially in their control, and because this method is taught to them as soon as they enter the fourth grade. So they have practiced this for quite some time, unlike Elliana who was completely new to this.
But more than that, the other students were not like Elliana, whose mind space, and emotions were a complete mess.
"I said focus!" Yaretzi shouted again, and Elliana closed her eyes, without reacting to her angry screams.
"Your screaming won’t help, Miss Yaretzi. This isn’t something you learn overnight. It’s not a spell that will work with a chant," Madonna said to calm the other witch, who immediately bowed her head before stepping back.
Madonna was one of the most refined witches in the University who was reaching the tenth level grade soon, and thus, almost everyone respected her there.
Yaretzi noticed the flow on Madonna’s face. It was amazing what years of practice and Magna can do to your body. The lady looked so full of elegance and poise that it almost felt illegal.
She looked classy even when she was wearing the simplest of clothes in the room, and only had a stone ornament around her neck. Her hair was let loose with the upper half rolled into a bun over her head.
The aura around her waist was bluish, but just like other witches of her order, she had passed the pink and violet aura long ago.
Jalizana turned to look at Madonna briefly before sighing.
’Well, she wouldn’t be asking Yaretzi to stop shouting at Elliana if she had known what kind of girl they were dealing with,’ Jalizana shook her head before she turned her head towards Elliana.
Her eyes narrowed. She observed the finest upper layer of the water around other students’ rocks, and her brows raised.
Was it what she was thinking it was?
She looked at the pressure in the water around her and felt her hand trembling, this wasn’t good.
Though Elliana wasn’t reacting, it was obvious she was barely keeping her feelings in control. And to have this kind of facade at controlling her anger has never been good for anyone who doesn’t know people like her.
She was like a ticking time bomb.
Jalizana raised her hand before facing it towards the ground to stabilize the vibrations in the water.
However, the more she tried hard to stop those vibrations, the more they pushed upwards.
Elliana’s powers were retaliating because they were teaching her how to keep them tamed. Or were they angry because they shouted at their human?"
"Professor, I can feel some weird energy in the water. It’s not calm. This is very distracting. Please do something about it," one of the students said, and Jalizana noticed the vibrations in the water increase even more. The powers probably liked the attention they were getting now.
She didn’t know if it was okay to interrupt the training session of the girl since she didn’t know what exactly was making Elliana so uneasy and frustrated.
"Is that so? Why can’t I feel any uneasiness or negative things in the water? What could be wrong?" The professor said.
This was the first time someone was complaining about it in the middle of the practice.
Getting the vibrations in the water was quite normal since everyone’s energies collides with each other, but the last time she checked, the dean had asked the witches to arrange a way for the clashing of their energies to not affect their lecture.
The professor walked to the water body and placed her finger in the water.
Badump!
She felt something dark hitting her head, and she immediately looked up at the only mysterious girl they knew in the area.
Could it be that this girl was dark -? The professor couldn’t even complete her thoughts when her pupils dilated.
They noticed Elliana standing in her place before she made a gun with her two fingers curled under her thumb, and index and middle finger pointed downwards towards the alligators.
"What is she doing?" The professor asked Yaretzi who had gone quiet earlier, since she was the only one here who was known to know this mysterious girl.
’If only I could tell you what was happening here,’ Yaretzi said before she saw Elliana raise her gaze to meet hers.
"You very well know that my concentration isn’t so good yet you have to force me to train in such a distracting environment. Don’t you think you overestimate me a bit too much?" Elliana asked before she looked at the alligators, and as she made a shooting sign with her hands, the alligators started dropping back into the water with their eyes closed.
Pat.
Pat.
Pat.
Pat.
Elliana looked satisfied when none of them were falling into the water anymore.
"Let’s concentrate now, yeah?" She asked before she sat back and closed her eyes to concentrate.
To say the teacher was horrified would be an understatement. This girl just did not do that to the alligators, right?
Her face turned red from anger while the unfazed girl sat there finally finding it in her to concentrate on the task at hand.
Yaretzi took a deep breath as she controlled her own frustration before she looked at witch Madonna, who had an amused expression on her face.
"Why does it feel like deja vu kicking in? I remember a very powerful witch being equally annoyed with such things and doing it her way," Madonna said, remembering the time when she had trained with Arizona in their earlier days and she had done the same thing.
Arizona’s mother had scolded her a lot for being so wistful.
"Let her do it as she wishes. She is right. If her concentration isn’t right, she should practice in a silent environment first. Maybe we are forcing too many things on her. It was the first day of this technique, but we got quite the data about her character," Madonna turned around.
The professor looked at the girl one last time before huffing in anger and leaving.
Jalizana sighed as all the students left one by one.
"I will take my leave now. I have to report back to my clan," Yaretzi vanished into thin air.
Madonna looked at Jalizana to talk about the girl’s water shield and if they could have it removed completely, but before she could start, they heard a loud blasting sound.
Boom!
Jalizana turned to the girl, her pupils dilating when all the large rocks around her where the other students were sitting earlier burst into tiny pebbles and stones.
The water rose in the air as if it wanted to reach the sky.
It felt like deja vu kicking in. This was exactly what had happened on that ship when Elliana had fallen into the water.
They observed how the water from all around Elliana rose higher and higher, but not a single drop touched her body.
The girl, who was getting annoyed with the presence of alligators earlier was now meditating without an issue as a transparent shield of water appeared in front of her.
Like a waterfall, the water rose in the sky and started falling on Elliana’s shield, making it look like a fountain while she meditated with much ease.
