The Marshal’s Wife is Wild -
Chapter 89 - 88: Accident
Chapter 89: Chapter 88: Accident
Just as Xu An was feeling uneasy, Song Ke’s voice chimed in, "Not bad, much tastier than the ones I grill, but still not as delicious as Sister Qu Tong’s."
With a clean pair of chopsticks, Song Ke picked off half of the flesh from the fish tail and handed the fish bones with the remaining half to Qu Tong.
Qu Tong shook her head in refusal.
Song Ke then handed it back to Xu An, jokingly saying, "Sister Tong Tong, you eat so little, no wonder you’re so slender."
Qu Tong had nothing to say in response.
Xu An naturally sat down beside the two of them and began eating the fish.
After filling themselves with food and drink, everyone continued on their way with renewed energy.
However, luck wasn’t on their side this time. After searching for a day and a half, they still hadn’t found the medicinal herbs they needed.
No wonder this herb, named Star Grass, only required three plants; everyone doubted whether this planet even had such an herb.
"Let’s rest for the night and search for another half-day tomorrow. If we still can’t find it, we’ll have to give up on this task. Continuously searching would likely be futile. Does anyone object?" Liu Hang suggested, seeking everyone’s opinion.
"I have no objections. We’re all good," the captain of the mercenary team was the first to respond.
Other members, who usually trusted Liu Hang’s judgment, all agreed as well.
They set up camp in an open area, and Qu Tong once again distributed Nutrient Solution and Energy Fruit to everyone. Then she stood up and walked towards the forest.
"Sister Qu Tong, where are you going?" Liu Hang called out to Qu Tong.
Qu Tong didn’t hide her intentions: "I’m going to find the source of this fragrance."
They had smelled it upon arriving, a faint floral scent permeating the air. Qu Tong guessed that there might be osmanthus trees in this forest.
"Then I’ll come with you," Liu Hang also smelled it and offered.
"I’ll go too," Xu An said, eyeing Liu Hang warily, fearing he had ulterior motives.
Liu Hang: "..."
"No need, I’ll be fine on my own. I’m just going to look around nearby, not going far," Qu Tong directly declined both offers.
"That won’t do. How can a frail girl go out alone? Better let Song Ke accompany you," Liu Hang suggested, without insisting on accompanying her himself.
Song Ke: I feel slighted.
Still, despite feeling indignant, Song Ke agreed: "Then I’ll go with Sister Qu Tong. Men, step aside."
Seeing she couldn’t decline further, Qu Tong didn’t refuse, and Xu An sat back down.
Releasing her spiritual power to sense the surroundings, Qu Tong quickly determined the direction.
"Wow! This osmanthus tree is so big! Although it’s mutated, the fragrance hasn’t changed," Song Ke exclaimed, looking up at the tree.
Because the osmanthus tree formed a shade, no other plants grew under it. The ground was covered with fallen osmanthus blooms. Standing under the tree, they would sometimes be showered by the small flowers drifting down, and the air was rich with fragrance, yet not overwhelming.
Because Song Ke was there, Qu Tong couldn’t use her Special Ability and instead broke off a few osmanthus flowers, planning to take them back and plant them in the yard using her Special Ability.
Song Ke also picked some.
Suddenly, Qu Tong’s actions while picking flowers hesitated: "Oh no!"
Song Ke, puzzled, asked, "What’s wrong?"
Qu Tong, short on time for explanations, said concisely, "Head back first, something’s happened."
With that, she headed back in the direction they came from. Although Song Ke was confused, she quickly followed Qu Tong back to the camp.
By the time they arrived at their base, the atmosphere was already tense.
"How is this possible?" Song Ke’s mouth hung open, disbelieving.
It wasn’t fully dark yet, but the eyes of a dozen Mutated Wolves already glowed an eerie green, their mouths dripping with thick, disgusting saliva.
After the stellar mutations, the wolves were more than twice the size of those Qu Tong had seen in her previous life, their fur was black and hard as needles, claws sharp as hooks.
```
Interstellar commonly refers to animals mutated as Star Beasts, for the wolves in history textbooks do not grow two heads, and some have even completely lost their original forms.
They are high-grade Star Beasts, to be precise, level seven Star Beasts, S-rank in strength.
F-SSS correspond to levels 1-9, with levels above seven collectively referred to as high-grade Star Beasts, not something this group of students could easily handle.
Take Liu Hang, for instance, although his physical grade is S, his strength is only at level five, and he needs continuous training to reach level seven.
And at the same grade level, humans are decidedly weaker than the vastly larger Star Beasts.
In their team, only the mercenary captain’s spiritual power and strength were sufficient to deal with high-grade Mutated Wolves.
But evidently, there was more than one high-grade Mutated Wolf in the pack, judging that the three slightly larger ones in the front all are.
Song Ke also summoned his Mecha, joining Liu Hang in dealing with one high-grade Mutated Wolf.
The mercenary captain tackled a high-grade Mutated Wolf alone, while several A-rank members of the mercenary team held off another one together.
The rest were barely managed by the remaining people.
This battle was extremely dangerous, but they had to face it head-on regardless.
Xu An quietly moved in front of Qu Tong, and with a grave expression, he cautioned, "Take out the protective weapon I prepared for you, and when it starts, try to hide behind us as much as possible, do not expose yourself alone."
"Okay," Qu Tong complied, obediently taking out the protective soft armor from her space and loading her handgun.
Qu Tong’s spiritual power spread out, monitoring the entire battle situation.
They had sent out a distress signal at the first opportunity, but there was no guarantee that the nearby army could arrive in time.
Soon, on Qu Tong’s side, the situation turned dire, with two individuals already injured.
Just as the menacing fangs of a Mutated Wolf were about to bite into one of their arms, a bite that would likely mean the loss of the entire limb,
"Bang!"
At the sound of the gunshot, a Mutated Wolf’s eye was injured, leading it to veer off course and the mercenary member’s arm was saved. He scrambled backwards, not forgetting to thank Qu Tong while doing so.
"Run!" Qu Tong pushed the person away and rolled aside himself.
The Mutated Wolf lunged at nothing, then turned its bloodied eye, now even more ferocious, towards Qu Tong.
Qu Tong half-kneeled and fired two more shots.
The first shot was a feint, while the second, the real one, hit the good eye squarely.
Blinded, the Mutated Wolf thrashed wildly until a couple of people came to deliver the finishing blows.
Following the same method, Qu Tong and her teammates coordinated to take care of two more, freeing more of them to assist elsewhere.
Those who had previously thought that Qu Tong, with her low physicality, was of no use had thoroughly changed their opinions of her.
But Qu Tong’s handgun was out of bullets.
Qu Tong tossed the empty gun back into the Space Button and moved to a safer area.
Just then, a member of Liu Hang’s team was sent flying by a slap from a Mutated Wolf, the sound of bones shattering crisply as he hit the ground.
The Mutated Wolf pounced, and the man, drenched in sweat from panic, could no longer move his right leg, which was now useless.
Qu Tong frowned, waved her hand, and a green whip snatched the man from the jaws of the Mutated Wolf.
"Than... Thank you!" Xie Ci lay on the ground in a sorry state, enduring the pain in his leg as he struggled to thank Qu Tong.
"Xie Ci!" He Zhou and Xu An, along with another person, finished off the Mutated Wolf they were dealing with and gathered around.
The intermediate Mutated Wolves, which were initially difficult to handle, ended up being the first to be completely dealt with.
However, the situation with the high-grade Mutated Wolves wasn’t looking optimistic.
The mercenary captain’s Mecha sustained serious damage, and his movements became sluggish.
