Chapter 217 - 216 Rescue
Chapter 217: Chapter 216 Rescue
Three mechas stood in a triangular position, defending each other’s backs.
All three mechas were damaged to different extents, but they were still struggling to hold on.
But clearly, no matter how much Energy Liquid they consumed, they were no match for seven or eight High-Level Bug Tribe members, let alone the combat-capable Middle-Level Bug Tribe and the numerous Low-Level Bug Tribe members who served as a distraction.
Actually, the woods were not suitable for Mecha combat, but they had no other choice; to leave their mechas would mean death.
Without hesitation, Qu Tong channeled her spiritual power into the steel blade on her mecha’s right arm, sweeping away the Insect Clan with the force of a juggernaut.
As the silver light flashed by, none of the three had time to see what had happened clearly before the High-Level Bug Tribe members they had struggled to defeat were cleaved in half and fell to the ground.
Xu An drank another vial of Energy Liquid and piloted his mecha to help deal with some Middle and Low-Level Bug Tribe members.
He felt his mecha getting lighter and easier to operate, and it no longer drained his spiritual power as before.
Song Ke and Fei Wenxing were exhausted to the point of collapse and could only finish off some of the Insect Clan members that were not quite dead yet on the ground.
About ten minutes later, the sky cleared up, and the ground was a mess.
Fei Wenxing stepped out of his mecha and stepped on a Bug Tribe carcass. Seeing the broken pieces scattered all around, he couldn’t help but retch out loud.
Song Ke and Xu An also turned a bit pale.
Only Qu Tong, with a calm demeanor, found a spot with fewer fragments to set foot and walked toward the three with composed steps.
"Boss... ugh! Boss! You... ugh~ saved me again, I’m so moved! Ugh~ ugh~"
Fei Wenxing spoke with a gut-wrenching retch, nearly vomiting out all the acid in his stomach.
Qu Tong gave Fei Wenxing a look of disdain: "Let’s move somewhere else."
The three moved to an area free of Bug Tribe carcasses.
Noticing Xu An staring at her, Qu Tong smiled and said, "Your sister asked me to come save you."
"Thank you, and thanks for the medicine you gave," Xu An felt immensely grateful, left with nothing but these pale words of thanks.
He didn’t know how to express his gratitude; if it weren’t for her medicine having no side effects, the three of them would have been dead long ago.
Finally regaining his composure, Fei Wenxing said, "Boss, please go save Cheng Yao and the others!"
Fei Wenxing’s eyes were red, and he was on the verge of crying.
They didn’t know how Cheng Yao and the others were doing.
They had been too busy fighting the Insect Clan to think about anything else, and now that they were saved, they were very worried.
Qu Tong nodded, asked for directions, and then rushed ahead on her own.
When Qu Tong piloted her mecha to the research building, she found that half of the building had collapsed, and it was uncertain whether anyone was still alive inside.
This place was even harder to maneuver a mecha than by the riverbank, so Qu Tong retracted her mecha and easily swung onto the half-collapsed rooftop using Qingmu hanging from the protruding steel bars.
The majority of Bug Tribe members had been lured away by Xu An and his companions; only three Crawling High-Level Bug Tribe members, two Flying High-Level Bug Tribe, and numerous Middle-Level Bug Tribe remained, with no Low-Level Bug Tribe.
Qingmu grew spikes, coated with Qu Tong’s spiritual power, even sharper than swords.
Easily piercing the carapaced bodies of the Bug Tribe, those that couldn’t be pierced were bound up, or directly decapitated.
Qu Tong dodged the attacks nimbly, swiftly clearing the Bug Tribe members; with a sweep of her vines, she could shatter a group of Middle-Level Bug Tribe members.
When Xu An and the other two arrived, even though they had already witnessed Qu Tong’s terror, they were still once again shocked.
Looking at the collapsed research building, they couldn’t help but become concerned.
After Qu Tong had nearly finished clearing the Bug Tribe members, she hurriedly searched for the entrance to the underground control room.
There were a few fresh white bones on the ground, still covered in flesh not completely gnawed away by the Bug Tribe, causing Fei Wenxing to retch again.
No one spoke; with a heavy heart, they tried not to think of the worst outcome.
"Is anyone there?"
"Cheng Yao! Xie Ci! Are you there?"
The three searched and called out, but there was no response.
The control room should have an isolation device, so Qu Tong couldn’t detect anything with her spiritual power.
Seeing that Xu An and the others had already searched most of the lab building, Qu Tong looked at the collapsed half of the building and frowned.
The lab building was not small, and her remaining spiritual power was insufficient to completely clear the debris.
Qu Tong opened her light brain; there was no signal, but she could head back to the riverbank from before.
But on the other hand, it made her hesitate.
The light brain she was using belonged to Qu Tong, and Jun Li’s light brain did not have any of the others, including Si Yuting, added to it.
While she was torn about what to do, a familiar warplane stopped overhead.
With nowhere to land, the warplane came as close as possible to the ground and then descended on a suspension ladder.
A line of well-trained people reached the ground, and Yuting came to Jun Li’s side and asked succinctly, "I received a distress signal from here, what’s the situation?"
Qu Tong sized up the dozen or so people who had come down and pointed at the ruins, "Forty or fifty people might be trapped inside, your numbers won’t be enough."
Fei Wenxing also ran over, visibly agitated, "War God Your Highness, please save Cheng Yao and the others, they must be trapped in the basement!"
Si Yuting ordered a soldier, "Have Major Xiong bring people over."
The soldier received the order, took out a metal sphere from the Space Button, similar to what Wen You had used before, pulled out the pin and released a signal.
In just a few minutes, Xiong Lie arrived with two warplanes.
Yuting’s team had already surveyed the terrain and decided on the approach to take.
Xiong Lie’s team brought mechanical equipment, making the cleanup of the site much more convenient.
However, as one side cleared, the wall on the other was likely to collapse as well.
Yuting shifted his gaze to Qu Tong and asked in a calm tone, "Does Miss Jun Li have any solutions?"
[He really knows how to use people to their fullest!]
Qu Tong scoffed internally but didn’t dawdle; she asked everyone to step back first.
Then she picked up a small section of broken tree branch from the ground, used Qingmu to wrap it, and extended it to the open space behind the lab building.
A tree lush with greenery grew rapidly, and in just a moment, it grew to the height of a four-story building. Its branches, large and small, interlaced within the fractured cement and steel, securing the entire wall firmly in place.
Those witnessing the scene couldn’t help but be amazed, marveling at the strength of an Ability Awakener.
"Thank you, Miss Jun Li," Si Yuting said solemnly.
Qu Tong gave him a sidelong glance and didn’t respond.
Si Yuting showed no reaction and continued watching Xiong Lie and his team rescuing people intently.
Qu Tong found a stone to sit down on, and the wind blew her hair into her face.
Qu Tong reached out to block it and casually used Qingmu to tie her hair back.
Si Yuting just happened to turn his head, his clear gaze lingering on Qu Tong’s hand for a moment.
A sky-blue and misty noble consort’s bracelet hung loosely on her arm as she raised it; her hands were good-looking, her fingers long and lustrous, and her slender wrists were immaculately white.
After Qu Tong finished tying her hair, her gaze met Si Yuting’s, and she teasingly arched an eyebrow.
Si Yuting indifferently withdrew his gaze.
