Chapter 135: Chapter 134 League Match 20, Concerned
Qu Tong could tell from the soldier’s adoring expression that he was telling the truth.
"So does the Marshal have to go out and kill the Insect Clan every day?"
"Not necessarily. When the wormhole is not open, there are specific patrols in place, but the Marshal occasionally conducts personal inspections. He only needs to join the battle when the wormhole opens and the Insect Clan launches a large-scale attack."
...
"Does your Marshal have time to rest?"
"Yes, every soldier gets a holiday, and the Marshal’s holidays are probably even more."
"So what time do you normally finish training, and what time does the Marshal rest?"
Qu Tong thought she might as well ask some more questions since she was at leisure anyway.
"Our training schedule is specific, and it can vary from morning to evening. I really don’t know what time the Marshal rests at night. The lady could ask Major Cheng or Major Wen."
Principal Wei and Si Yuting walked out just in time to hear their conversation and, with an amused glance at Si Yuting, laughed, "Marshal Si, your wife seems to be very concerned about you."
Si Yuting only glanced at him indifferently and made no comment.
As people approached, Qu Tong and the soldier only then noticed.
After the soldier saluted, he stood to attention on one side.
Qu Tong stood up and greeted them.
"Your Highness, Principal."
When she addressed Si Yuting, her smile was especially sweet, a pity that Si Yuting was as cold as ever, merely nodding in acknowledgment.
Principal Wei was much warmer: "Student Qu Tong, I have something to discuss with you and would like to take a moment of your time."
Qu Tong felt that Principal Wei was unusually polite, not quite like a principal’s attitude towards a student.
She wondered if it might be because of Si Yuting’s identity.
She’d heard that Principal Wei’s appointment had met with opposition from many, but thanks to the Emperor’s support, he became principal instead of a dean in the Pharmaceutical Department.
This made sense, as the Royal Family would never allow someone from the Alchemist Association to become the principal.
Qu Tong looked at Si Yuting, and upon seeing his nod, she felt reassured.
She followed Principal Wei to his office.
Principal Wei appeared to be a very amiable middle-aged uncle, smiling kindly.
"Student Qu Tong, I wanted to meet with you alone because there’s a favor I want to ask of you."
Qu Tong was usually well-behaved and sensible in front of most people, she replied with a light smile, "Please speak, Principal."
"You performed very well in the first match, and we all saw your excellent command and combat abilities. Keep it up and I’m sure you’ll do very well in the midterm exams," Principal Wei began by praising Qu Tong.
Then he added with serious emphasis, "However, I hope your team can set aside personal grudges for now and focus on the second round of the competition. Our academy has always been far ahead, but this year, because of what happened with your two teams, we’re at the bottom."
Principal Wei spoke with a tinge of embarrassment, yet he tried to reason: "After all, our academy is Marshal Si’s alma mater—it wouldn’t look good to be spoken badly of."
Qu Tong laughed off, "I don’t care. Just tell him not to mess with me, and that will be enough."
"With that said, I’m relieved. When you go back, discuss it with your teammates. I’ll talk to Lan Xingye," said Principal Wei with a genial smile.
Qu Tong thought the principal must also have it tough, walking on eggshells, as almost anyone randomly pulled out of the school probably came from a better family background than Principal Wei.
Even with the support from the Royal Family, the Lan Family was not to be offended, and it was likely the same gentle persuasion would be used on Lan Xingye.
Qu Tong didn’t want to make it difficult for him. She asked for directions and left a message for Si Yuting through Principal Wei before heading back to her dormitory.
Previously preoccupied with the fight, she only knew about He Zhou’s elimination but was unclear about how the others fared.
Just as she reached the dormitory building, she noticed two people arguing under the streetlight.
One tall and one short, the argument seemed quite intense.
In the end, the short girl pushed the taller girl away and stormed off in a huff.
The taller girl, Song Ke, staggered and reached out as if wanting to say something, but ultimately she could only let her hand fall weakly.
Song Ke slowly walked over to a chair on the side and sat down, gazing ahead in a daze.
"So, this is why you joined our team?" a pleasant female voice came from behind her.
Startled, Song Ke turned her head and saw Qu Tong walking against the light, standing in front of her, looking at her with a detached expression.
Song Ke bit her lip, a mix of conflict and guilt shifting across her face.
It took a while before she weakly nodded, "Yes."
The air suddenly grew quiet, and Qu Tong said nothing more.
"I’m sorry."
Song Ke’s voice was so low it nearly dissipated in the air.
Qu Tong merely said indifferently, "No need to apologize, you did well."
Song Ke looked up at Qu Tong in a daze, the dejection on her face and the guilt at the bottom of her heart slowly fading away, and she suddenly smiled.
Qu Tong turned around, "Let’s go, back to the dormitory."
Song Ke responded and went back to the dormitory with Qu Tong.
After contacting Rong Yueqing through the communicator, Qu Tong and Song Ke together knocked on Xu An’s door and found that Fei Wenxing and Cheng Yao had also gathered there and hadn’t gone back to rest yet.
Seeing Qu Tong return, Fei Wenxing and the others immediately cheered.
Fei Wenxing was the first to rush to the door, excited.
Qu Tong, with her hands in her pockets, moved aside to avoid getting bumped.
The following Song Ke directly pushed the person away.
Fei Wenxing, bumped against the door frame, wasn’t annoyed, but turned back to look at Qu Tong, "Tong, are you alright?"
As Qu Tong stepped in, she asked, "What could possibly happen to me?"
"Right, with Marshal Si backing you up, who would dare to mess with you?" Fei Wenxing nodded in agreement.
Qu Tong raised an eyebrow, "We did nothing wrong, don’t make it sound like I’m bullying others with my power."
Fei Wenxing quickly grinned, "You know that’s not what I meant, Tong. We all saw it, how the mentors from Blue Planet and Lan Weiying, relying on the support of the Alchemist Association, actually distorted the truth and ranted at you. I was just worried they might give you trouble."
"Oh, they can’t trouble me," Qu Tong said casually, not taking it to heart.
With Si Yuting and Principal Wei there, they couldn’t turn the tables.
"How did things go yesterday?" Qu Tong inquired.
Once the topic was brought up, Fei Wenxing and Cheng Yao grew enthusiastic, scrambling over each other to speak, even starting to argue about it.
Fei Wenxing: "Tong, you were so cool yesterday. Your poise won my utmost admiration. The braggarts from before were so satisfyingly defeated..."
Cheng Yao interrupted, "When are you going to get to the point? Let me tell it."
Fei Wenxing: "You roll, I’ll tell it."
Cheng Yao: "You babble too much, let me do it."
Fei Wenxing: "I’m well-informed and know the full story."
Cheng Yao: "I’m more in the know than you. At the rate you scoop up gossip, you couldn’t even catch up with hot shit."
Fei Wenxing: "You’re the one that’s up with the hot stuff; may you have hot shit to eat every day, I certainly won’t."
Cheng Yao: "Talking to you is truly dragging down my intelligence."
Fei Wenxing: "Weren’t you the first to mention it?"
Qu Tong: "..."
Song Ke: "..."
Is this really the time to discuss who gets to eat hot shit? Song Ke and Qu Tong wished they could throw these two out.
In the end, it was Xu An who simply repeated the events once more.
