Chapter 106: Chapter 105: Dealing with Lan Guofu
Qu Tong, in her fifth fight of the afternoon, looked at Mecha No. 75 across the cockpit with a slightly raised eyebrow.
The opposing side sent out an orange mecha, and anyone with a keen eye could tell the difference between this mecha and the ones that had appeared earlier.
The mecha’s body lines were smooth and the appearance was simplistic, without any unnecessary frills. The whole body was made of corrosion-resistant material, and there were visible signs of minor corrosion in several places.
There were a few shallow marks on the left arm that didn’t seem to have been left by a weapon, but rather looked like the bite marks of some kind of serrated beast.
Qu Tong could almost certainly tell that this was a battle-worn mecha.
From the moment she entered the stage, Qu Tong felt a gaze fixed on her back.
Turning her head, she saw under the stands a man and a woman watching her intently; Ouyang Linna was teasing, almost leaning entirely into Lan Xingye’s embrace, while Lan Xingye just glared at Qu Tong with a fierce gaze.
Looking closer, one could also see the provocation and determination to win in his eyes.
Heh~
So, he was the one behind this.
The previous opponents were too weak, making the fight uninteresting. This was just the chance for her to stretch her muscles and see for herself what the strength of the backup Lan Xingye had brought in was like.
Qu Tong casually used her spiritual power to control the mecha, extending a hand in Lan Xingye’s direction and making a thumbs-down gesture.
Sure enough, she saw fire in Lan Xingye’s eyes that seemed as if he wished to spit it out and burn her.
Qu Tong hooked her lips in a mocking smile inside the mecha cockpit.
As the starting signal sounded, Qu Tong took the initiative to strike first for the first time.
The mecha swept across quickly, and its silver metallic fist aimed directly at the orange mecha’s energy core located in the chest.
Those with high levels of spiritual power could see the spirit power barrier that formed with the fist’s momentum.
Lan Guofu hesitated for a moment, and then quickly reacted, piloting the mecha to fly off the ground.
Once the arena fight began a specialized isolation shield was activated, thus limiting the mecha’s upward mobility.
Qu Tong’s first strike missed, but almost instantly, without apparent inertia, she launched herself forward in pursuit, punching, kicking, spinning; each movement was so fluid it seemed as though the pilot and mecha were one.
Lan Guofu momentarily lost the advantage and found himself retreating, growing irritated.
He directly pulled out the weapon from the mecha’s right arm for defense: a short knife with electric current running along its blade, which upon clashing caused Qu Tong’s black mecha to pause for an instant, giving Lan Guofu a temporary respite.
Qu Tong curled her slightly tingling fingertips, her almond eyes narrowing.
The mechas rented from the Underground Fighting Arena didn’t have this feature.
Lan Guofu, too, had killed members of the Insect Clan and Star Beasts; his ability to react on the spot was not bad. Seizing the gap, he counterattacked.
The fight on the platform was intense, both parties trading blows fiercely, causing the audience below to watch with bated breath and cold sweat.
This was their first time witnessing such a fierce battle, with every move aiming for vital points, as if fighting with a personal grudge.
Moreover, this stirred the fighting spirit in the observers, leading to the betting stakes soaring to unprecedented levels.
Lan Guofu was an S-rank psychic, but his combat experience and familiarity with the mecha were both incredibly high, and he also had the advantage of a superior mecha.
Although Qu Tong’s spiritual power was high, she had been somewhat worn out from previous fights, and her mecha limited her true capabilities, making it difficult for her to break the stalemate.
Below in the stands, Lan Xingye’s face was filled with disbelief.
How old was that woman, she didn’t look over 25, yet she was fighting his second uncle to a standstill.
His second uncle had been honing his skills on the battlefield for decades, his spiritual power level already ascended to S+. Yet, he couldn’t take down a woman.
Qu Tong thought, if the mecha was at a disadvantage, then she would have to overpower him with her spiritual power.
Just as Lan Guofu was about to meet her attack, he felt the atmosphere around him change abruptly, the air seeming to carry an invisible resistance, making it more difficult to control his mecha.
Lan Guofu’s heart suddenly skipped a beat, such strong spiritual power!
To be able to disturb with spiritual power while controlling a mecha, the opponent’s strength was not to be underestimated.
The orange mecha narrowly dodged, and the weapons clashed against the hull, emitting a piercing sound.
After a few exchanges, Lan Guofu inside the mecha cabin was sweating profusely, forced to look for an opportunity to drink a bottle of Energy Liquid.
The audience below couldn’t help but exclaim:
[My god, so strong, that’s our Underground Fighting Arena’s standard mecha, right?]
```
[Even a leased Mecha can exhibit such strong capabilities, impressive indeed!]
[Am I the only one who noticed that she didn’t consume any Energy Liquid throughout the whole process?]
[She’s fought 4 bouts before this one, her spiritual power level is definitely beyond S-rank.]
[I feel the same, she must be an SS-rank bigshot.]
[I don’t know what’s happened recently, but bigshots keep showing up in the Underground Fighting Arena. Remember number 45 from before?]
[Of course, I remember, breezed through the challenges, impressive as hell.]
[The orange Mecha is no slouch either; his combat skills are highly polished.]
[The configuration of the orange Mecha is a whole level higher than those in our Fighting Arena, even my custom Mecha can’t compare.]
[I wonder if number 39 can win?]
[Whether she can win or not, I admire her, go number 39!]
Shouts of encouragement rose one after another from the stands, with most cheers rooting for Qu Tong; after all, Qu Tong was the underdog, and a comeback would be enormously uplifting.
Lan Xingye’s face was so dark it looked as though he could drip ink, and even Ouyang Linna beside him didn’t dare to provoke him, keeping to herself quietly.
Lan Guofu hadn’t expected that a simple arena match would push him to this extent, especially against a young girl.
If he lost, where would he put his face?
Driven by anger, without any hesitation, Lan Guofu activated the ion gun in his left arm.
As the energy gathered, gasps could be heard from the crowd.
"Fuck! This Mecha is actually using an ion gun!"
Some of the audience was already quite angry.
Because the Mechas for rent in the fighting arena are the lowest configuration, they aren’t equipped with thermal weapons. Hence, during combat, even if someone’s using a custom Mecha, it’s an unspoken rule not to use thermal weapons.
However, the scene the audience worried about did not happen.
The speed of the number 39 Black Mecha suddenly increased several fold, rapidly altering its flight path and leaving afterimages in its wake.
The energy cannonball hit the isolation shield, and even the spectators outside could hear the noise.
Lan Guofu was about to attack when he felt his entire Mecha again slow down, this time the lag was even more severe than before.
And this time, Qu Tong was moving so fast there was no way to dodge.
With a "bang!", the orange Mecha was heavily smashed to the ground.
The high hardness mineral stage surface now bore grooves and cracks, showing the force of Qu Tong’s strike.
Shock still evident in his eyes, Lan Guofu was hit by another punch.
Qu Tong had no intention of letting him off; a succession of attacks rained down on the Mecha, causing Lan Guofu’s spiritual power to shake greatly, and a pained expression appeared on his face.
The Black Mecha bent its knees and kicked the orange Mecha high into the air before leaping up itself, bringing down the final strike. The energy core of the orange Mecha shattered directly, and Lan Guofu completely passed out.
The entire arena filled with gasps, yet no one dared to blame Qu Tong for being ruthless; after all, it was the other side that had first disregarded the ethics of combat.
Explanation of the strength system
Physical levels are divided into: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS, corresponding to strength levels 1-9.
You can think of physical levels as talent or a limit. For example, a person from Fei Wenxing with physical level A, corresponding to level 6, is currently at level 4 strength and can at most reach level 6 eventually. In contrast, Lan Xingye with an SS level can later reach level 8.
Generally, reaching one’s physical level isn’t difficult; it just takes a few years (leaving minor levels aside for now). So, in the text, physical levels are often used to determine strength, for example, strength level 8 is also called SS-level strength.
Those below F are ordinary people who cannot be measured in levels, typically living on planets beyond third-tier stars with severe pollution, with shorter lifespans (70-100 years) and weaker bodies, but no mental outbursts.
F-D (100-150 years), C-A (150-200 years), S-SSS (200-300 years).
The female protagonist is already a bigshot; once she fully merges with this body, her strength will become very formidable.
It may be a bit complicated; just try to understand as you read. If you can’t understand it, skipping it is fine too - it’s not that important.
