Chapter 51: Annora’s Rage

Chapter 51: Annora’s Rage

"Cassian?" Annora took a step back.

"How dare you call the Crown Prince by his name?" One of his attendants immediately reacted.

"Please forgive my companion. She hasn’t been out much and doesn’t know the etiquette."

Edward’s death stare was enough for Annora to bow her head and shut up.

Upon entering the banquet the first person they saw was the Crown Prince. He was the centre of attention. The birthday boy was nowhere to be seen.

Cassian took no offence to the disrespect shown. He ignored the duo and scanned the crowd for Adeline.

Edward quickly spotted the Northern Duke, there were some things to discuss with him.

The moment he left, Annora tried to approach Cassian. Why was she doing this, she asked herself. She wanted to grab him by the collar and pour out her resentment.

He was her husband! He was the Emperor, he had the ability to protect her but he didn’t. He let her get taken away by Edward, and she had to endure hell because of it.

She failed to realise they always had a transactional relationship. She chose the Crown Prince due to her own selfishness. After not giving a clear answer to any of them, they started growing distant.

Annora couldn’t afford to lose any of them. She finally decided to choose the Crown Prince. He was powerful enough to protect her... But he chose not to.

He CHOSE not to!

If stares could kill, Annora would’ve killed him multiple times.

Cassian, who was seated finally stood up. There was a hint of anticipation on his face, perhaps excitement. Annora found it annoying, following his line of sight she wanted to see what made the selfish prince stand up.

Adeline? And next to her... Benedict.

Annora’s breathing quickened. She stumbled and caught ahold of a table behind her to stabilise herself. Benedict held her hand and was protecting her against the crowd. While Cassian stood up and went to receive her personally.

She knew that they were childhood friends, the trio that dominated the society. Seeing them together now, made her feel uncomfortable. In her last life, she ’stole’ that position from Adeline.

She quickly became the most cherished girl in their life. It was a feeling she enjoyed. She didn’t feel too sorry for Adeline. Using her status as the Marquess’ daughter she tortured her, insulted her and got her family to target her.

When she saw the blissfully unaware Adeline, just smiling and talking, completely unaware of the miserable ending that awaited her... Annora felt better.

It didn’t matter if this Adeline didn’t bully her, she wished for a worse ending for her anyway.

Annora’s eyes widened... D- Dimitri?

Dimitri rushed to Adeline and took his position as her ’knight’. She told him she had to do something and left him in Aaron’s care for a while.

When she told him in the carriage that he should stick to her side during the banquet, he felt overjoyed. He could finally spend some time with her. But she suddenly left and came back with some boy.

He wouldn’t dare tell anyone but he wished he was her favourite person. But she left him to go meet up with another friend, was this person her favourite then?

Annora’s feet didn’t listen to her. Her mind was telling her to stop. Edward would kill her if she caused trouble. But she couldn’t help it. She didn’t care if Cassian waited for Adeline or if Benedict stuck to her. The one that hurt the most was Dimitri.

He... He was the only kind person in her life. He never asked anything of her, he was always there for her when she needed help. He was a kind soul who regularly helped destitute children. To think she chose that selfish Crown Prince over him.

Why was he with Adeline?! She couldn’t accept this! She approached him, hoping to save him from the childhood trauma he shared with her, but he... He refused her, and he chose her?!

She was a b*tch! A bully, a selfish woman who was power-hungry!

Irony was not Annora’s strongest skill.

How and when did this happen? This didn’t happen in her past life. Not much has changed in this life, has it? Benedict, Cassian and Adeline have formed the trio, she could see that they were acquainted.

Everything else has been the same... What has changed? WHY? Why did Dimitri choose her?!

She wanted to confront him, she wanted to ask him point blank why he chose to go with Adeline when she came to rescue him first!

"You- Why did you come with her?!"

All of them were caught off guard. Why was this random girl rudely interrupting them?

Cassian was already annoyed with how pests Adeline was surrounded by, now another fly joined. He wanted to swat it away.

She stared at Dimitri intensely like a crazy person.

He couldn’t recognise her, they only met once after all. She was that forgettable to him. Annora’s rage only increased after this. He didn’t recognise her... How dare he?

"Very good. Adeline... Very good." She gritted her teeth and managed to utter a few words.

Adeline never liked Annora, not while reading the story, not now. So she didn’t bother to be nice to her.

"Did the Holy Temple not teach you any manners?"

"The Holy Temple?" Dimitri asked. He was surprised, how did she recognise that this weird girl was from the Holy Temple?

"See the emblem on her clothes." Whispered Adeline.

"If you don’t leave this place, I will have you escorted out."

Annora’s started laughing out of anger, he was going to have her thrown out. Cassian had always been like this. Even as a child, he was ruthless and decisive.

"No need, I will leave."

The atmosphere between them hadn’t returned to normal yet. Adeline couldn’t be bothered. Annora was acting weird, she was almost sure she transmigrated too. How else would she know that Dimitri shouldn’t have been with her?

The Goddess said she didn’t pull anyone else into the story but how else would Annora know of these events? In the story, Annora wasn’t the one who accompanied Edward, but here she was... Something was definitely amiss.
