Chapter 46: Edward’s foe

Chapter 46: Edward’s foe

In the shop, Dimitri felt out of place but seeing how everyone was happy, he didn’t want to spoil the mood. By the time the fitting was over, his face was bright red. He had been keeping everything inside for too long. Embarrassment, frustration, discomfort, all these emotions overwhelmed him.

Aaron had a wonderful time catching up with Ivan and Adeline kept choosing more and more clothes for Dimitri. He was part of her family now, he had to be dressed glamorously plus look at that face. He was a handsome little guy. Adeline just wanted to pinch those cheeks!

It had become very dark by then, Adeline didn’t notice that Dimitri was developing a fever. Only when they reached the manor and under the bright lights she realised how red he looked, she immediately took his temperature. He was burning up!

Out of instinct, she wanted to heal him but she remembered what her father said, she couldn’t use her powers. She missed him, she wished he would come back soon.

She didn’t get the chance to see him after that, the servants whisked him away to tend to him.

"Don’t worry, Linny. It’s just a fever."

"I know..."

Not caring about the people around her she hugged Aaron tightly. She knew... She knew that he would be fine. It’s just that she felt so empty. Most of it was attributed to missing her father. She didn’t know when he would be back. She just wanted her dad.

Aaron carried her back inside. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep in his arms.

"Children get exhausted quickly." Alaric took Adeline from him. Aaron felt at a loss. Did his brother think he was not reliable?

"I am talking about you dummy. Go, rest. I’ll put her to bed." Alaric had to clarify immediately because his stupid brother was overthinking things.

Aaron blushed immediately. He was not a child! Still, it was nice to know his brother cared about him. Just like how Adeline can act willfully around them, he could act like that around Alaric.

Adeline didn’t want to sleep that quickly but her body was still that of a child, and it was telling her to rest. She woke up when Alaric took her, she muttered in her sleep, "I miss Dad."

"Me too."

Their father would not be making it back in time for the banquet. Teleportation magic is physically taxing, he used it to reach the place but he wouldn’t be able to use it to get back, especially in his current condition.

After bidding farewell to the ex-priestess, he began his return journey. Once he recovered he waited to see if she would consciousness again but it didn’t seem likely. He wouldn’t say this trip was a complete waste, at least now he confirmed that his daughter might be the Saintess. With this information, he could make preparations. At this point, he was considering having her engaged to the Crown Prince. With the royal family behind them, his daughter wouldn’t be taken away.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Master, the preparations for the banquet have been done. Annora’s dress has been delivered. Only yours is left now. Also, after the banquet, we have been ordered to take you to the Northern Duchy."

Edward didn’t care much about the senseless chattering the servants kept spewing.

Getting his outfit fitted was so cumbersome but had to be done. After all, he was the representative sent from the Holy Temple. Though he was eleven he was handed many duties. He was a trusted member of the Holy Temple.

The last word caught his attention. The Northern Duchy... If his memory was right, Benedict would be drowning in sorrow. His mother was dying after all.

He chuckled and covered his face, they summoned him to magically heal her.

There was no chance he could heal her out of a coma. Even holy powers have their limitations. There was a hint of joy in his eyes. He hated that Benedict. He hated all of them, all they wanted to do was taint the precious vessel. He would find joy in seeing him suffer, he wanted to personally deliver the news about his mother’s eventual death.

"Ah!" He felt a sharp pain in his heart. His eyes became unfocused. He could feel the cold air against his neck.

"Master!" The servants had surrounded him completely not leaving a small gap. She was here? She was here!

He tried to look around but to no avail.

How was this possible? It couldn’t be... The one he dedicated his life to...

"Don’t look for her. Stay away."

"Who’s there?"

Things have been going awry since he heard this voice for the first time.

He didn’t get a reply from the voice which frustrated him, this time he was going to be the victor and no one could stop him.

"Heh. You can try to stop me."

"I will, after all, I have a promise to abide by..."

No one but Edward could see the black fog approaching him. It surrounded every inch of his body and before he knew it he felt an excruciating pain.

"What did you do?!"

"I cut off your connection with her. You will never be able to sense her."

This voice... This damned voice! He was driven crazy! How dare she?!

"Get away from me!" He yelled at the servants who badgered him with relentless questions.

’This is just a setback...’ He crazily whispered to himself.

He walked away from those people and found himself in a dark alley. He immediately slammed his hand against the jagged wall. It started bleeding very quickly. With dead eyes, he crazily started scribbling something on the wall. Multiple designs interlocked forming a circle. It started to shine... A dark purple glow was being emitted from it.

Forbidden magic... He was already contaminated by it anyway, that was how he and Annora turned back time. There was no point and acting like a good guy. By any means necessary he was going to find her. No one can stop him. Absolutely no one.

That magic circle was a powerful sign... It sent out a signal to all those who practised the forbidden art, calling them to congregate at this very spot. He needed all the manpower to find her.
