Chapter 43: Friend?
Chapter 43: Friend?
"I don’t think that looks good on you at all."
"You wouldn’t look good in anything anyway."
Adeline just wanted to get herself and Dimitri some nice pieces of clothing to wear, how did it get to this point? Now, the daughter of a Viscount and Dimitri were locking heads in the shop making things awkward for people all around them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the banquet was approaching, Adeline decided to get something nice for herself. The Goddess had gone mute this entire time so she had a fairly peaceful last couple of days. Although she wasn’t able to get the Crown prince to intervene and send Benedict a letter. She was sure that Benedict and his father would come to the banquet. They had to!
It was a celebration for the Second Prince, they couldn’t ignore it, and it would be like an insult to the royal family.
On top of this, Alaric just refused to let her go to the palace, so she had to wait for the banquet to come to ’save’ Benedict. How was she going to do it? She hadn’t a clue. What was she going to say? ’Hey, actually your advisor is a complete b*tch.’
On second thought, that might just work. She could just frame the advisor, and get her away from Benedict.
The very next thought that came to her mind was, ’What happened to me?’
She went from being an ordinary girl to a scheming munchkin who planned to frame some lady of child abuse! Too many big changes in her personality. A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do. She had to survive.
Her brother intended to bring along Dimitri as a servant but she did not agree. She was going to have him dress up nicely and introduce him as their distant cousin. Who was going to verify?
Even if they tried to, she would make sure they wouldn’t find anything. If she was going to be ’evil’ why not go all the way?
Until now, she committed treason when she lied to the Crown Prince, kidnapped Dimitri, hid her holy powers, planned on framing someone and thought about forging someone’s identity.
She took a good hard look in the mirror as if she was some anti-hero. "You did what you had to do Adeline, you did what you had to do."
Her face darkened, there was an expression filled with pain on her face.
It only lasted for two seconds before she patted her cheeks and said, "Alright. That’s enough drama for now. Let’s go get Dimitri all dolled up."
"Take Aaron with you, I have to manage the affairs while Father is gone."
Alaric sold out his brother without hesitation, it was now Aaron’s turn to take care of the hot potato.
And so, Aaron, Adeline and Dimitri set off to a famous boutique in the Capital city. They knew it would be packed, everyone would be rushing to get their clothes made for the grand banquet. On very rare occasions the nobility congress like this, it was time to show off their power and influence.
The bustling street made Dimitri stick to the window. This was a new world he was witnessing, completely different from what he was used to.
"Welcome! Come in! Would you like some refreshing tea?"
The owner of the boutique personally came to welcome the trio. They are from the House of Kendrick after all.
Adeline looked around to see numerous ladies getting their measurements taken and dresses fitted. Aaron insisted on getting Adeline’s dress shopping done first.
"This is the newest and most popular design."
The dress she wanted Adeline to try out was a light green dress that had been rising in popularity among young girls. The green was refreshing and it showed tenderness, a quality young girls had.
"Wouldn’t popular designs be worn by everyone?" Adeline asked. If she went to the banquet and realised every girl was dressed in green... It would be quite awkward.
The smile on the owner’s face wavered for a second and softly insisted, "My lady, you would look good in anything. You give beauty to the clothes, not the other way around."
Adeline couldn’t hear any more of the empty flattery, she took that dress to get changed.
Once she got changed, she took a good look in the mirror. She... Did not like it at all. For some reason, this light green didn’t suit her too well. It was nice sure, but something felt off.
She stepped outside to show it to Aaron and Dimitri to get their opinions.
"You look like a flower."
Adeline smiled at Dimitri’s words. But after a second of thinking she frowned, her dark brown shoes, her green dress and pink hair... Did it look like dirt, flower stalks and petals?!
Her cheeks turned red from embarrassment.
"I think it looks nice," Aaron remarked.
Adeline didn’t feel too good about that either, Aaron was known for not having good taste. Adeline sighed, she wished she had female friends to take advice from.
"I don’t think it looks good on you at all."
Hmm? Who was this? Adeline turned to look at the source of the unfamiliar voice.
She looked like a noble girl, with her auburn hair in pigtails and green eyes she stood there with her arms crossed. She had a deadpan expression on her face.
Dimitri didn’t spare a second to return the insult.
"You wouldn’t look good in anything anyway."
Adeline was still processing what happened, she hadn’t been treated like this in a while.
The girl didn’t seem to be offended by Dimitri’s words. To be more accurate she completely ignored him.
"Who-"
Aaron was about to ask where this sassy lost girl came from. There was no servant beside her or a guardian.
"Victoria Griffin."
The expression on her face did not change one bit.
"Victoria! How many times have I told you to not run off on your own!" By the looks of it, one could tell it was his sister. She looked just like Victoria but older.
