Chapter 316: Chapter 305 Forum (Extra release as a reward for book fan "Wang Chun Ting")
Mr. Zhuang, holding a book, stepped down from the podium and tapped the desk in front of Manbao. Her consciousness immediately returned from the system, and she dazedly picked up her textbook.
Keke also closed its mouth, waiting for her class to end.
It wasn’t until lunch time that Manbao found a gap to continue researching the newly opened forum with Keke.
The policies that must be confirmed by the Supreme Federation Law are, of course, not as simple as just opening a forum. In fact, the forum is just one aspect derived from this policy, and it’s the only aspect related to the hosts and their related matters.
Although it’s just a very small aspect, the Federation and the Main System have also established strict rules and regulations.
For example, there’s strict control over which research institutes and researchers can participate in the forum. Not just anyone can join; without the corresponding research qualifications, one simply cannot pass the Main System’s audit.
Because of this, their trading counterparts are quite limited. Of course, this is relative to the billions of intelligent beings in the Federation. To Keke and Manbao, though, the number wasn’t small at all. Mainly because there was competition and the market freedom was sufficient, which was very beneficial for them.
The next is the restrictions on trading.
The Federation and the Main System prohibit organizations or individuals within the forum from delivering technological products to other worlds that far exceed their plane’s level of technology, which is even more stringent than the mall’s regulations.
After all, in the mall, as long as they can afford the technology tax, they can buy things, but that’s not possible in the forum.
Similarly, since the forum is still primarily for research, there are strict limits on the quantity of trades, intended to prevent future intelligent beings from plundering the resources of other worlds.
Lastly, is the forum’s second channel.
The forum is divided into two parts, the second part being the exchange and trade between various worlds. Manbao also saw that interface.
Perhaps because the forum was newly opened, the hosts from various worlds were very quiet. Only an individual labeled as number 10 posted a message, "Does anyone need various antiques? Fair dealing with young and old alike."
Manbao poked around on it and thought for a moment before replying, "Antiques can’t be eaten."
The response appeared on the interface instantly, and she became excited, asking, "Keke, doesn’t that mean I can chat with lots of people anytime and anywhere now?"
"That’s not wrong."
Delighted, Manbao inquired, "You were just mentioning something about the forum’s second channel, what about it?"
"The second channel needs to be opened by the host themselves, and only then can they trade items with other worlds. Otherwise, it only has the reply function, and the host can’t even post threads."
Manbao was familiar with this routine, and so she asked, "How many points does it cost?"
"Five hundred thousand!"
Manbao: "..."
Keke said, "You get what you pay for. But I think this burden is too heavy for the host at present. You already have four hundred and ninety-nine thousand points. With another five hundred thousand, you can buy a potion for your mother, so I suggest the host refrain from activating this function for now."
If it were previous hosts, or others, Keke would definitely have encouraged them to open the channel, as it only brought advantages to it, and no drawbacks. All transactions within the forum needed its maintenance, and by providing maintenance, it would receive a commission.
But who asked Manbao to be so weak?
In a meek voice, Manbao began to grumble, "That’s so expensive."
"Not at all," Keke replied in an equally soft voice, "In the second channel, the host can trade many things with other worlds, not just limited to what we have recorded. This convenience is not available in the first channel."
Curious, Manbao asked, "Why do they limit the first channel but not the second channel?"
The data within Keke’s chip flowed rapidly and, after a sizzling sound, it said, "An untraveled road is unknown to everyone; in the darkness, everyone must tread carefully forward. But if, next door, there are countless intertwined paths and you know that these side paths will definitely not intersect with the main path you need to follow, would you worry about people tripping or soaring on those side paths?"
Manbao hesitated, "Shouldn’t we help them up if they fall down?"
"But the people passing these laws clearly don’t think so."
Manbao looked perplexed; what did walking have to do with laws?
Keke did not elaborate further. As an executor of the law, the Main System is the one to listen to and, as a subsystem controlled by the Main System, they naturally follow its lead.
Manbao had long known that Keke wasn’t completely free to say whatever it wanted. So when it didn’t continue, neither did Manbao press for more.
Spending five hundred thousand points to open a channel was impossible for Manbao at the moment, so she quickly switched to the first channel, watching with interest as people posted various buy and sell requests.
She then checked the items she had recorded, to see what she could trade.
She habitually started with the items that had the highest click rates, thinking that the higher the click rate, the more popular it should be and thus the more likely people were to buy.
Manbao noted down several key entries and then searched the forum to see if anyone was looking for the items she had recorded.
Then she realized there wasn’t a single one.
Manbao widened her eyes innocently as Keke cleared its throat and said, "Host, we are still weak, let’s take it slow..."
That’s why it didn’t recommend the host to open the second channel at the moment. If they couldn’t even make a breakthrough in the free first channel, spending so much money to open the second channel would be too costly and foolish.
Downtrodden, Manbao lowered her head, noticing that the requests on the forum varied greatly, with people looking for books, unknown plants, medicines, and more...
Keke said, "Each host can only trade plants they’ve recorded in the forum’s first channel. For example, you can only trade plants and animals that you’ve already recorded."
Manbao’s world was considered quite ancient, and her collection of books was very complete, but she could only take them into the system for reading. Keke could neither record them nor make them available for trading in the first channel.
However, if someone in the second channel needed them, Manbao could trade with them after opening it.
It took Manbao a nap time plus an hour in the evening to understand all these rules and then, for the sake of points, she started trying to post threads on the forum.
What could she offer?
They hadn’t gone bird catching today and probably wouldn’t do so in the future, so birds were out of the question.
The China root had sold out and currently, no one in the family was free to take Manbao up the mountain. The yams weren’t ripe yet, the ligustrum was still green, but the Azaleas and wisteria on the mountain were still blooming and looking quite good.
These flowers bloomed and wilted in a cycle. Although they couldn’t last long after being plucked, they looked beautiful when planted in the courtyard.
Moreover, compared to edible items or valuables like China root, Manbao preferred to trade things that were neither edible nor convertible to money.
So, Manbao crafted a title, "I have very beautiful, very pretty ancient flower varieties of wisteria and Azalea available, anyone interested?"
The title being so, the post consisted of two sets of images taken by Keke when the flowers were first discovered and scanned for preservation.
