Chapter 288: Chapter 277: Falling Off The Bed (Second To Last Additional Release As Recommended By Yunqi)
"But if the host wants to listen to stories, that’s also possible. I suggest you search in the category of history. There are many stories there for you to hear."
"History, huh," Manbao’s heart stirred, "is there any history about us?"
"No," Keke said, "the time-space we are currently in is not recorded, at least not in the course of development of the star system I come from."
And it was because of a spatial turbulence that it ended up here.
"However, the development of history always has similarities and patterns. If the host is interested, you could read more history. But since you have an interest in medicine, you should study more about medical techniques, right?" Keke said this with some happiness, "Learning medicine is also good. Once the host has learned enough, you can go out and practice medicine. Isn’t there a status called ’traveling doctor’ in your era? They go everywhere to treat people."
The more places one goes, the more likely one is to encounter plants never seen before, and then you could always do some digging and hoeing.
Manbao’s heart heated up, and she asked, "Do traveling doctors make a lot of money?"
"They should be quite wealthy," Keke’s data came to life, saying, "In your era, seeing a doctor is expensive, and so is medicine, so doctors should be very rich."
Manbao felt that he was right, her eyes shining brightly, "Then I’ll seriously study medicine. If in the end my points aren’t enough to buy potions for my mother, I can also treat her illness. Right, Keke, do you have medical books to treat my mother’s illness?"
Keke: "...The illness of the host’s mother is not a simple one, it’s a bit complex. Let me search for it."
Upon searching, it found about twenty books, and this was after it limited the range to ancient Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and modern Chinese medicine. If it hadn’t set limits, even more books would have appeared.
It said with some uncertainty, "Once the host learns what these medical books say, you should be able to figure it out."
Luckily, all the books it had found were available for lessons, meaning that Manbao could learn from the courses.
Manbao was delighted. After some thought, she first illuminated Orthopedics Basics, figuring that since Silang was injured and there was a real-life reference right there, it made sense to start with orthopedics.
Just as she opened it, a figure suddenly appeared at the lectern. Manbao emitted a "huh" as her chair tipped backwards, and she fell straight onto the floor, instantly ejected from the system.
Keke: ...
Manbao, lying on the bed, suddenly kicked out, somersaulting off the bed onto the floor with a slap, face down. Not long after, the sound of crying could be heard from her room.
Zhou SiLang, who was already dozing off in the next room, suddenly jolted awake. Ignoring the pain in his backside, he hopped out of bed, grabbed a piece of clothing, and rushed next door.
Rushing into the room, he saw Manbao sitting on the floor, sobbing and holding her arm.
He paused and then asked, "What’s wrong with you?"
Manbao stretched her arm out toward him, crying, "It hurts, Silang, it really hurts."
Ms.Qian was preparing dinner, and Junior Ms.Qian was in the vegetable garden. Unfortunately, the Zhou Family’s vegetable garden was located behind and to the side of their house. Hearing Manbao’s cries, Junior Ms.Qian called out from the garden, "What’s wrong with Manbao? Silang, Five, Sixth, where have you all run off to?"
It should be noted that Manbao seldom cried.
Zhou SiLang called back and then picked up Manbao, both frustrated and amused, "Did you fall from the bed?"
Manbao, crying, nodded, "It really hurts."
Zhou SiLang then blew on her perfunctorily and said with a laugh, "A little blow and the pain will go away."
Manbao sniffled, felt around, and indeed the pain seemed not as severe. She then wiped away her tears with her other hand.
Zhou SiLang teased her, "Crying over falling off the bed, aren’t you embarrassed?"
Life is such; who hasn’t fallen off a bed as they grew up? Zhou SiLang never cried.
Feeling superior to Manbao, he took her hand and said, "Alright, don’t always stay cooped up at home, go out for a walk, play with your friends. Are Datou and the others not including you? I’ll deal with them later."
Zhou SiLang, limping a bit, led Manbao out to the courtyard. Junior Ms.Qian had finished watering the garden and came back just in time to look at Manbao’s face, then at Zhou SiLang, "Did you bully Manbao?"
Zhou SiLang couldn’t help but protest, "Big sister-in-law, do I seem like that kind of person? When have you ever seen me make Manbao cry? She’s the one who bullies me into crying!"
Junior Ms.Qian thought about it too; he didn’t have the nerve for that. Otherwise, their father would have skinned him alive.
She then turned to Manbao and asked, "Why are you crying, Manbao?"
Manbao kept her head down and said nothing.
Zhou SiLang chuckled uncontrollably, "She fell off the bed by herself. I heard it and rushed over. Hahaha, she fell off the bed..."
Ms.Qian also laughed, but she absolutely couldn’t let Zhou SiLang tease Manbao like that, so she slapped his shoulder and sent him away.
Ms.Feng was cooking that evening.
Manbao weakly said, "Big sister-in-law, I want to eat the dish you’ve cooked."
Junior Ms.Qian glanced into the kitchen, saw that Ms.Feng had just prepared a dish, and after washing her hands said, "Alright, big sister-in-law will cook for you."
So Junior Ms.Qian took over for Ms.Feng.
Ms.Feng was only too happy, her good mood lasting even after having her fill at dinner.
The Zhou Family never wasted food, so the food prepared was almost always finished by the evening of each day.
Nonsense, in the countryside, where there are neither banquets nor wealthy landlord families, who would have leftovers?
But that evening, the Zhou Family’s dinner table did have one dish left over, exactly the one prepared by Ms.Feng.
After someone took an initial taste with chopsticks, everyone else avoided it, focusing on the other dishes, and managed to finish their rice somehow.
Ms.Feng too, after picking just a small bite of her own dish, started to feel downcast.
She turned her head to look at Zhou ErLang.
Zhou ErLang shuddered and immediately put down his bowl and chopsticks, "Dad, Mom, I’m full."
Old Zhou simply "hmm"ed without reaching for more food, finishing the rice in his bowl and setting it down as well.
As Ms.Feng’s gaze swept over everyone at the table, seeing them all putting down their bowls and chopsticks, she could only turn her attention to Manbao, who was still some ways from her food.
Ms.Feng smiled softly and took some of her dish with the chopsticks, gently offering it to Manbao, "Eat more vegetables, Manbao, they help you grow."
Manbao said quietly, "I have vegetables already, Second Sister-in-law, I don’t want anymore."
Her small bowl was piled with vegetables, all added by Ms.Qian and Junior Ms.Qian.
Ms.Feng sighed sadly and just as she was about to say something, she noticed Manbao’s awkward way of shoveling rice. Frowning, she watched for a while before asking, "Manbao, why are you holding your chopsticks like that?"
Manbao’s eyes welled up with tears, but she managed to hold them back, "My, my hand hurts a bit."
Ms.Qian turned to look at Manbao’s hand and noticing something was off, immediately reached to pinch her wrist. Manbao, in pain, quickly withdrew her hand, turning her body away, as tears irrepressibly streamed down, she cried, "It hurts, it really hurts."
