Chapter 898 - Chapter 898 Chapter 898 The Pharaohs Daughter
Chapter 898: Chapter 898: The Pharaoh’s Daughter Chapter 898: Chapter 898: The Pharaoh’s Daughter “Fine! Lead me to Melinda Melrose Tribe!”
Once Greg Jensen had decided, he immediately had the girl lead the way.
On the way, he learned that the girl’s name was Sheryl Barker, and she was the third princess of the Degus Tribe.
Under normal circumstances, people from different tribes couldn’t communicate with each other, and without serious matters at hand, they definitely couldn’t just visit each other.
In Greg Jensen’s understanding, this amounted to a closed management system, where each tribe was like a small independent nation.
They could maintain diplomatic relations, but could never traipse across others’ territories without permission.
However, Sheryl Barker said she was different, as she could freely travel to any tribe, and each tribe must display the highest courtesy in welcoming her.
It wasn’t because she held a very high position, but because she had awakened a rare, one-in-ten-million God Summoning Ability.
It was said that at the beginning of her awakening, she had summoned the Pharaoh God.
The Pharaoh was their local supreme deity, sacred and inviolable!
Even all their culture bore the Pharaoh’s shadows.
So, even though the Pharaoh God appeared for less than a minute that day, her feat still spread across the entire grassland, and she was hailed as the Pharaoh’s own descendant, the Pharaoh’s daughter.
“So when you were surrounded by the Honey Badger Beasts, the constant prayers for the Pharaoh’s protection wasn’t just out of superstition, but an attempt to actually summon the Pharaoh God?”
Greg Jensen had to admit, Sheryl Barker had refreshed his notions once again. Before arriving here, he had never considered that such a strange ability existed in the world, actually capable of summoning gods?
No wonder these people were nearly bitten to death yet they still remembered to invoke the Pharaoh–it wasn’t just about culture, it was mostly because of Sheryl Barker’s special ability.
“Of course! The Pharaoh would never abandon any of his subjects, especially me!” Sheryl Barker puffed out her chest with confidence.
Greg Jensen retorted, “Then why didn’t he appear? If he had, none of your companions would have died!”
“They were not my companions; they were just the lowliest servants in the tribe, why would the Pharaoh show himself for them?”
“Then what about you? Aren’t you the Pharaoh’s daughter? Doesn’t he care about your life or death?”
Greg Jensen clearly remembered that, had he not acted promptly, Sheryl Barker would have also been doomed.
To which Sheryl Barker replied, “Well… that’s because the Pharaoh must have known you would save me, that’s why he didn’t appear! Otherwise, if the Pharaoh came, all those Honey Badger Beasts would have been dead!”
“Really? Well, I wish I had known; I wouldn’t have lifted a finger and just watched the Pharaoh save you!”
Greg Jensen eyed her with suspicion, still somewhat incredulous about the God Summoning Ability.
Sure enough, Sheryl Barker blushed under his gaze and reluctantly admitted,
“Well… actually, ever since I awakened the God Summoning Ability, I have only successfully summoned him once. After that, no matter how much I tried, no matter how I prayed, the Pharaoh God has never appeared again!”
“Hm, if there’s a chance, you’ll have to let me witness the Pharaoh’s true face!”
Amid their banter, they quickly moved from the plains into a dense forest, stopping at last in front of a towering tree.
“This is it, sir! You follow me up, the entrance to Melinda Melrose Tribe is up there!”
Sheryl Barker pointed at the tree and climbed up first.
Greg Jensen could only follow closely behind, patiently following her lead.
True enough, when they climbed to a height of a dozen meters, they saw an irregular circular hole among the branches of the tree, dark and seemingly bottomless.
“You mean to say, the people of Melinda Melrose Tribe all live under this tree?”
Greg Jensen was somewhat astonished, feeling that the people of these tribes had innovative minds. They had managed to hide the entrance up high, about ten or so meters off the ground, by hollowing out the middle of the tree trunk.
Had it not been for her leading the way, he feared he might have searched half the day and still might not have found it.
“Of course! If the entrance was easy to spot, those ferocious beasts would have charged in and hunted us down a long time ago!”
Sheryl Barker laughed and said proudly, “The entrance to the Melinda Melrose Tribe is nothing special. If you saw the entrance to our Degus Tribe, now that would truly be shocking!”
“Oh? What’s your entrance like then?” Greg had indeed become curious due to her words. As he followed her into the tree hollow and downward, he asked.
“Hehe, that I can’t tell! If there’s a chance, I’ll take you to see it, and then you’ll know!”
Great! The girl was now being mysteriously secretive.
Greg shook his head with a wry smile and did not inquire further.
After all, he knew that each tribe had its methods and means, and under normal circumstances, they definitely would not reveal the entrances to their tribe.
Otherwise, if exposed, it could spell disaster for them.
Lost in thought, the two groped in the dark, continually descending.
The climb up had only been about ten meters, but as they descended, Greg felt they had gone down dozens of meters, and some passages were winding, not leading straight to the bottom.
As Sheryl had said, this was to prevent some ferocious beasts from accidentally finding the entrance and making it directly to their tribe. Thus, this seemingly simple corridor was actually multifaceted.
A misstep could lead the invaders into countless traps and mechanisms.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, just as the passage started to flatten out and they were no longer descending but walking horizontally, two strong presences abruptly stopped them.
One of them spoke in an unhappy tone, uttering a series of incomprehensible words, seemingly questioning their identities.
Sheryl responded in the same language, pointing at Greg while she spoke.
Indeed, as she finished speaking, the murderous intent shown by the two guards lessened significantly. They shone a faint light on Greg and then moved aside to let them pass.
“Sir, these are the Melinda Melrose Tribe’s guards; everyone who comes by has to be inspected!”
Sheryl continued to lead the way and took the opportunity to explain.
Greg grunted in acknowledgement, noticing that the light in the corridor was gradually brightening. Every ten meters or so, there was an oil lamp burning on either side.
The pathway for walking was merely half a meter wide, with earth walls on both sides.
About every three to four meters, there was a recess about two meters deep. Each of these recesses held a person of African descent, either sitting or lying down, each in a different posture–these were likely their individual rooms.
And just as Sheryl had said, the tribe members treated her with much respect, each greeting her as they saw her.
Of course, afterward they looked at Greg with a strange gaze, filled with wariness and suspicion.
It wasn’t until they reached the end of the corridor that Greg noticed one of the recesses actually had a wooden door, unlike the rest which were all open.
If he wasn’t mistaken, this should be the exclusive earth pit house of the Melinda Melrose Tribe’s leader.
Thump, thump, thump!
The next moment, Sheryl knocked on the wooden door, calling out:
“Melinda Melrose Leader! This is Sheryl Barker, I need to speak with you!”
“Hehe, come in Sheryl, and the esteemed guest as well, both of you come in!”
