Upon opening the door, Hua Jinyan was met with the awkward sight of Grandpa Liu and Grandma Liu.

They’ve melted her heart! Grandma Liu’s eyes shone brightly, her voice even softer, “You’re good friends with our Jinyan. Since Jinyan is rather reclusive, please look after him for us. If he doesn’t listen to you, just call me.”

With that, she handed Little Taotie a business card.

Little Taotie took it and nodded, “Okay!”

So adorable! Soft and fragrant like Xiangxiang, little girls are the cutest! Grandma Liu pulled out the gift she had prepared the night before and handed it over.

The wooden box was square and solid, engraved with patterns of little birds pecking at peach blossoms. The peach blossoms were stained red, and little birds were tinged in black-green.

Grandma Liu beamed, “Open it up; do you like it?”

Little Taotie opened the box to find a hair tie inside.

The hair tie was made of a brown rubber band, adorned with small peach blossoms like those on the box, but made of a different material, clear and sparkling, and quite dreamy.

“Do you like it?” asked Grandma Liu.

Little Taotie honestly nodded, her eyes bright and shiny. The translucent peach blossoms were beautiful. Little Taotie reached out to touch them, feeling slightly cold to the touch, like pink ice-sculpted blossoms.

“Here, let me comb your hair and tie it up in a high ponytail with this!”

Little Taotie nodded and obediently sat down at the vanity.

Grandma Liu was thrilled. She had skillful hands and used to comb her daughter’s hair, but it had been many years since. Her skills had gone to waste, as her son and daughter hadn’t given her any granddaughters or grandsons, just pesky boys!

Grandma Liu gently combed Little Taotie’s hair with a brush.

Grandpa Liu’s voice softened, “Those peach blossoms are made of rose quartz, taken from your granny’s bracelet. The rubber band is indeed cheap, but the hair tie was made by your granny’s hands last night. The wooden box may look ordinary, but it was carved and colored by her as well. It’s the thought that counts with a gift, and compared to the Rose Bracelet you got from the auction, I’d say your granny’s hair tie is even better.”
