Chapter 46: The Assault (Part 5)

Blood dripped from Clard’s entire body. He was completely exhausted. He had just defeated all the Ant Bees that tried to kill him.

But he managed to escape death. He looked up. Half of his troops were dead. As he looked around, the troops led by Gramn were in even worse condition. Almost 60% of his forces had been killed by the Ant Bees. Even though there were more Ant Bee corpses, this still felt like a defeat to Clard.

It was nothing like what he had imagined.

"What exactly are they? How could they be this strong?" Clard muttered.

It had never crossed his mind that they would be cornered by the Ant Bees. A mission he thought would be easily won turned out to be the most difficult one in his life.

Clard’s eyes were still moving, and blood continued to drip from his wounds. He pulled out a potion and drank it. His body glowed for a few seconds before dimming again. Slowly, his injuries began to heal.

"Where are the reinforcements Raiga promised? They should be here by now," Clard muttered anxiously.

On the other side, Lyrith sat still, lost in thought. Her body was bleeding, and she had been dazed for almost twelve hours. She hadn’t moved from that spot.

"Where am I?" She looked around and saw several dead demi-humans lying on the floor. She couldn’t remember anything. "Why are they dead?"

Lyrith knew nothing. She didn’t even know who she was, but one thing disturbed her. She felt as though she needed to do something, but she didn’t know what it was.

Lyrith clutched her chest. It felt tight.

She stood up and walked toward the exit of the room. As soon as she stepped outside, she saw even more corpses. This time, it wasn’t just male demi-humans—there were many female ones as well. Lyrith walked past the corpses without any hint of sympathy.

She had no intention of finding out why the demi-humans had been killed. The only thing she wanted was to figure out who she was and why she was in this place.

Lyrith opened the front door. Just as she did, she saw a group of demi-humans outside. They were still alive, and some of them were holding weapons.

"Demon! Surrender now!" one of them shouted.

Lyrith tilted her head. "Demon? Who?"

The demi-humans looked at each other in confusion, but quickly focused again. They assumed Lyrith was pretending not to understand to trick them.

"You’re the demon! Surrender yourself for killing the villagers of Chillg. You will be sentenced to death!" the same demi-human shouted again.

Lyrith turned to look behind her. She stared at the corpses inside. Then, she turned back toward the demi-humans surrounding her.

"Did I kill them?" she asked, visibly confused.

"This is your final warning. Surrender, or face the consequences."

Lyrith tilted her head again. "Force? You mean you’ll hurt and kill me?" she asked with a blank, innocent look.

The demi-humans scratched their heads, confused by Lyrith’s reaction. It really seemed like she didn’t understand the situation at all, but their commander shook his head and slapped his own face, refusing to be deceived.

"Don’t try to trick me, Demon!" he raised his hand, ready to give the order. "So you still won’t surrender, huh? Very well, then I..."

Lyrith raised her hand, pointing it toward the demi-humans. No one was alarmed, thinking it was just a random gesture, but unfortunately, that signaled their doom. One second later, a black orb appeared in front of her palm.

The magical energy from the orb was immense. As the demi-humans realized what was happening, they tried to flee. Some readied themselves to fight. However, one second later, the black orb vanished—then reappeared in the middle of them.

They were about to react.

Too late.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted, destroying several houses at once. Smoke from the blast rose nearly 700 meters into the sky. The wide blast zone became a scorched crater about 50 meters in radius. Bodies of the demi-humans were thrown violently.

Some vanished without a trace, and others were reduced to scattered, mangled body parts. Blood flowed, mixing with the dust and dirt in the air. No one survived the explosion—except for one.

Lyrith.

She floated in the air with a blank expression. "I don’t want to die."

Raiga leaned back in his chair. He needed to rest a little to calm himself. These past few days, his mind had been overwhelmed. He felt he had to ease his thoughts before stress drove him insane.

But something shocking happened.

BOOM!

A massive explosion rang out. He stood up instantly and looked toward the source of the sound. When he saw the rising smoke and dust from afar, Raiga’s eyes widened in shock. He swallowed hard.

"What just happened?"

There had been no reports of a monster attack. It should have been impossible for monsters to do this, but Raiga felt a terrible omen.

He quickly walked to the door, intending to head to the scene and see what caused the explosion.

Just as he was about to leave, a soldier rushed in and knelt before him.

"Sir, there’s been a demon attack in the center of the city," the soldier reported.

Raiga’s eyes widened in shock. "A demon? Did you say a demon?"

The soldier nodded. "Yes, sir."

Raiga was confused. He didn’t want to believe what the soldier had said, but it was impossible for him to lie—there would be no reason for it.

Whether it was true or not, Raiga had to see it for himself.

"Take me there!" Raiga ordered.

The soldier nodded. "Yes, sir!"

They quickly rushed out together. As they stepped outside, they met Brukk and Tamae.

Both of them looked pale. They were frightened. At the same time, Raiga remembered what they had told him earlier.

"Damn. This is bad."

Without another word, the three of them rushed toward the site. Within minutes, they arrived.

Upon arrival, all three of them swallowed nervously. A massive crater stretched before them, so large that spring water had started to seep from its center.

"Is this what you were talking about?" Raiga asked.

Tamae turned to him. "Yes." She clenched her fists. "According to the soldiers’ reports, the one responsible is a female demon. It looks like this is a warning for us."

Raiga’s hands trembled. He was truly terrified. Not of death, but of Chillg city being destroyed. This city was his family’s legacy—something his father had entrusted to him.

"So then, what should we—"

Before he could finish his sentence, the figure of a horned woman appeared before them. The soldiers instantly formed a defensive stance.

"You want to kill me too?" the demon woman asked.
