The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 767 - 429 Star Ring Town
Chapter 767: Chapter 429 Star Ring Town
When Rod rode the massive Spiritual Power Airship to Storm Pass, he discovered that in just a few days, a strategic foothold at Storm Pass had begun to take shape.
The terrifying Undead Fortress had vanished without a trace, the gloomy canyon was now lit by firelight, the Black Fog had been dispelled, and a new stronghold built of sturdy brick and stone stood in the pass.
Countless people worked within, with lights from material transport stretching into the unseen distance.
The Archbishop Horus told them that this place would be a major rear for the battle of Starry Sky City, all supplies would be delivered here, then sent to Star Ring Town through the Undead Passage.
A robed shadow asked, "Your Excellency Archbishop, are we to fight there?"
Horus answered in a deep voice, "Yes, we need to clear all threats outside Starry Sky City before we can launch an attack on it. This is a battle for the survival of humankind, and we cannot afford any accidents."
With a clang, the airship landed on a patch of open ground.
As Rod disembarked from the airship, he saw that the entrance to the Giant King’s sarcophagus had been transformed into a square building, guarded by dozens of warriors.
Archbishop Horus and Great Priest Megan led the way forward, the guards bowed and stepped aside, and the group followed in single file.
The Undead Passage was very long, at least several hundred thousand yards, extending from beneath Dead Ash Mountain Range to the edge of Dark Great Plain.
The exit was right below Star Ring Town.
Star Ring Town was a stronghold around Tasnia Starry Sky City, probably once used to protect the Royal City of the Starry Kingdom, and it too had fallen into darkness after the fall of Starry Sky City.
The Guardians who arrived in the first wave had cleared the stronghold of monsters and subsequently occupied Star Ring Town.
Star Ring Town then became their primary stronghold in the battlefield of Starry Sky City.
Archbishop Horus said, "Currently, there are ten Guardians and thirty First Level Combatants stationed in Star Ring Town."
Rod exclaimed, "That few? Don’t we have nearly two hundred First Level Combatants?"
Horus said gravely, "Rod, you have just been promoted to First Level Combatant and still have much to learn about Trolian. Though we have nearly two hundred First Level Combatants, this number includes the elderly and disabled. Half of the Elder Council are First Level Combatants, many retired masters are also First Level Combatants, like your current teacher, Old Sword Saint Galen."
"But due to reasons like soul decay and severe erosion, their combat strength has a significant gap from their peak, making them unfit for the frontline."
He glanced at the many robed figures of the Calier covert troops’ Shadow Warriors behind him.
"Another part, not regular First Level Combatants, we cannot deploy unless it’s an emergency."
Great Priest Megan said with a heavy laugh, "Horus, you are still the old stubborn man. The King has already promised, they will become regular First Level Combatants, enjoying all the benefits First Level Combatants have."
Horus’s face, wooden, showed no expression, as if he hadn’t heard Great Priest Megan’s words at all, he continued, "And defenses in various places of Trolian must be flawless. Although we have pre-emptively cleared many threats, many key strategic points still need First Level Combatants on guard."
"Therefore, the First Level Combatants we can deploy are quite limited, and the peculiarities of Starry Sky City nearby do not allow for personnel below First Level Combatants to come."
Rod asked, "Is it because the monsters are very strong?"
Horus said gravely, "Not just because of that, the space near Starry Sky City is chaotic, with periodic disturbances of Spiritual Energy and the Spirit Realm flickering unpredictably. If your soul hasn’t withstood the force of Eleventh Level Spiritual Energy, it will be impacted, causing irreversible damage to your soul and might even provoke a worse consequence, disturbing the monsters inside Starry Sky City."
Rod shudder inwardly, "Is this some kind of natural phenomenon?"
Horus shook his head, "Of course not, it’s the consequence of a collision caused by some extremely powerful force. Many scholars from Royal City believe it might be related to the downfall of Starry Sky City."
He said no more, and soon they arrived at the exit of the Undead Passage.
It was also sealed by a large gate, guarded personally by several Elders. Any individual below First Level Combatants could not pass, and if Amendo weren’t occupied with other matters, he would personally be guarding here.
From this, one could see the unprecedented level of importance Royal City placed on the battlefield of Starry Sky City.
Even though the team was led by Archbishop Horus and Great Priest Megan, the Elders still conducted a brief Spiritual Energy test on everyone to ensure no one else had sneaked into the group.
"Your Excellency Archbishop."
After pushing open the gate, the Elders said to Horus.
"Please ensure a triumphant return."
Horus bowed slightly, "Definitely!"
With the team, he stepped out of the pass.
Rod’s view finally broadened, and he immediately saw the town enveloped in faint firelight ahead.
It wasn’t large, most buildings had collapsed, city walls and defenses were all destroyed, with only a few buildings still standing at the center.
The firelight was very faint, and the light sources appeared scattered, clearly there was no Guardian Fire stationed here, but Residual Fire was used instead.
Was it because the Guardian Fire could not take root, or because they didn’t want to alert some unknown monsters?
Rod thought to himself as his gaze shifted, seeing three words written in ancient language on a half-collapsed gatehouse.
"Star Ring Town."
Horus said briefly, "We don’t have much time, follow me."
He led the team swiftly past the half-collapsed gatehouse and into a tower at the center.
The moment they pushed open the gate, the warm breath of fire rushed towards them, driving away the cold from their bodies.
Rod looked up and saw a bright yellow flame burning in a brazier at the center of the room.
That was the Residual Fire, a force split from the Guardian Fire, possessing power equivalent to the Guardian Fire though slightly weaker, and it could only last for a few days.
There was no one in the room, not even logistics or medical personnel.
In such an environment, ordinary people could not survive, as the chaotic streams of Spiritual Energy could directly shred their souls.
Tai Luo asked, "Where is Lord Luo Weiya, the Fire Son?"
Horus’s expression was as still as water, "They might have encountered danger, Lord Luo Weiya has gone to the rescue."
Rod whispered to Jessica, "Is the Fire Son also here?"
Jessica nodded slightly.
"How many have come?"
"One."
Rod exclaimed in surprise, "One? Why only one?"
Jessica replied softly, "The Fire Sons have their own duties. The threat that Trolian faces is greater than you imagine. Moreover, as ultimate warriors, they need to conserve their strength until the battle at the Starry Sky City begins."
"Quiet!"
Horus pressed a hand to his forehead as white Spiritual Energy gathered at his fingertips; unseen waves of Spiritual Energy dispersed rapidly.
A moment later, he said, "Lord Luo Weiya will be back soon, please prepare everyone for battle."
As soon as he finished speaking, a robust voice sounded from outside the tower.
"Horus, you’ve finally arrived."
With a loud bang, the door was forcefully pushed open, and a figure appeared in the doorway.
He was dressed similarly to the Guardian Gale, both shirtless and in shorts, revealing strong muscles and neatly chiseled abs, but differently, he carried no weapons, his fists clenched as if ready to fight with just his fists.
Rod recognized him immediately; he was Luo Weiya, the Fire Son, the man who had led the core legion to break through Storm Pass.
Horus nodded, "I’m here."
"Do you know how long I’ve waited?"
Luo Weiya’s voice was hoarse but loud, filled with ruggedness.
As he stepped through the door, a smile appeared on his face.
"Not bad, this round of support is good."
Luo Weiya turned to address everyone.
"Shadows of Calier, welcome to the battlefield of Starry Sky City. This is where you will realize your value. Please give your best effort in battle. It is your mission and your honor."
His gaze then shifted to the three individuals of Rod’s group.
"Oh, and here we have three tender Guardians, truly rare to see such young ones become Guardians."
"Rod, I saw you at Storm Pass a few days ago. You were still a small guy, and now, in just a few days, you’ve advanced to a First Level Combatant and become a Guardian. That is truly remarkable; no wonder Alan has always valued you so highly."
"Tai Luo, I’ve long known you would come here."
"Oh, Jessica, your Six-Armed Snake Demon was impressive. I hope you can bring out the legendary power of a strong Spirit woman in the upcoming battle."
Luo Weiya paused, his voice deepening.
"I’m glad you’re about to participate in the Starry Sky City campaign."
