Chapter 752: Chapter 424: Critical Promotion
After returning to the Fire Hall, Rod received the largest reward he had ever received to date.
300,000 silver coins, 1200 assorted supplies, 10 Flame Burning Potions, and 80 Hall Badges.
But in reality, this mission was the easiest he had ever undertaken, entirely uneventful and wildly chaotic—Alan was responsible for the chaos, and some clown for the wildness.
However, everyone else didn’t see it the same way.
The Guard Captain Kaiso gave him high praise, Dalin and the various Defense Chiefs all commended his merit, and even the Elder Council unusually offered him a lot of positive feedback.
The First Elder Amendo even credited him with a major achievement; now, his military exploits had completely met the standard for First Level Combatants. As soon as his Spiritual Energy broke through to the Eleventh Level, he would become a First Level Combatant.
All this was too smooth, giving Rod a surreal feeling.
But he didn’t think too much about it, for the most important thing was to become a First Level Combatant. Time was slipping away, and the footsteps of the invasion were drawing near; he desperately needed Divinity.
Back in the Dream Realm, the Book of the Future and Asa were still clamoring in the distance. It seemed they had endless energy, spending their days either brawling or cursing each other.
The Book of Knowledge, meanwhile, was hard at work repairing the puppets and the Divine Mirror. A stream of Souls Without Spirit floated out from the Obelisk and, under the manipulation of the Book of Knowledge, entered the puppets and the Divine Mirror.
"Book, how is Aphro now? Is the Primordial Soil useful?"
The Book of Knowledge excitedly answered, "Of course it’s useful. Aphro’s resurrection is just a matter of time now. With the Primordial Soil, it has become complete."
"And the Divine Mirror?"
"It is also being repaired. In just one or two weeks, it will be restored to its original state. Our current supply of Souls Without Spirit is more than enough to support its restoration."
Rod smiled slightly. From his journey to the Heroic Spirit Hall, he had obtained a total of 2.7 billion Souls Without Spirit, and adding the 200 million he had before, the total came to 2.9 billion souls.
Having obtained so many Souls Without Spirit in one go, he wouldn’t be lacking souls for a very long time to come.
With a glance, Rod saw the nine pieces of Soul Firewood lying at the feet of the Book of Knowledge, still gleaming with the luminosity of fire, as if they were still burning.
"Book, which star would be best to ignite?"
The Book of Knowledge flipped through its pages rapidly. Now, it was emanating Golden Light from all over, its cover more thick and elegant, exuding a sense of nobility.
Even as its pages flipped swiftly, it no longer gave the impression of a child haphazardly flipping through a notebook; instead, there was a sense of epic grandeur akin to flipping pages of gold.
Moments later, the Book of Knowledge found the answer.
"This one is still the most suitable!"
"Bright Red Tears—this is a very Strong Star, extremely close to the Great Star. Igniting it requires 90,000 Spirituality, 9 Source, 9 pieces of Soul Firewood, and 3 Extremely Great Souls."
The Book of Knowledge, emanating Golden Light, strode over to the face of the Obelisk to show the location of the star.
Rod nodded in agreement, as all the requirements were met except for Spirituality; he only had a bit over 50,000, still needing 30,000 more.
But that was not an issue. Recently, Rod had been accumulating a lot of souls in the Soul Altar, and it was time to sacrifice them.
He turned and stepped up to the Soul Altar. With a wave of his hand, numerous souls flew out from the Crystal Wall and gathered in the palm of his hand.
Rod raised his hands high and, with a thought, activated the power of the Soul Altar.
The air began to warp, and the grey souls, as if being kneaded by an invisible force, were cut, crushed, turned into Souls Without Spirit flying into the Obelisk. The rest of the residue fell to the ground, becoming the various materials needed.
Rod carefully observed the results of the sacrifice.
Generally speaking, a very Strong Soul could yield about 5 million Souls Without Spirit, between 500 and 600 units of Spirituality, some Soul Residue, and occasionally a few Soul Traits.
An Extremely Great Soul would yield ten times that.
Extremely Great Souls were rare; Rod only had four and was reluctant to sacrifice them.
There was only one soul that was Extremely Great, the Dark Stars, and he was even more unwilling to part with it.
Rod only sacrificed some miscellaneous souls and a small portion of Extremely Great Souls, and his Spirituality was filled.
He additionally obtained over 300 million souls, several thousand units of Soul Residue, and several hundred units of various types of Soul Traits.
It is worth mentioning that Asa had been watching the sacrifice silently from the sidelines, his eyes shining.
After the sacrifice was completed, Asa specifically came up to Rod to ask if he could have some Soul Residue.
His tone and attitude were nothing like his previous arrogant demeanor; it was almost like a plea.
Rod didn’t mind. He and Asa had a relationship based on a strategic cooperation, and as long as it didn’t affect his interests, agreeing to inconsequential small requests was acceptable.
Soul Residue was something Rod had plenty of and was not very useful to him. The Book of Knowledge mainly treated it as a snack.
But later, the Book of Knowledge decided that snacking too much wasn’t good for its soul recovery and thus broke off this habit.
"Alright."
Rod nodded and casually took out a few dozen units of Soul Residue and threw them to Asa.
He didn’t give too much, just in case Asa had some secretive plot in mind.
Rod had not forgotten that they were enemies.
Asa grabbed the Soul Residue, eagerly opened his massive mouth to swallow it, and immediately felt the delightful flavor of the soul coursing right up from his heart.
"Ah!"
He let out a satisfied sigh.
