The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 633 - 373 Resources
Chapter 633: Chapter 373 Resources
Dalin’s words left Rod lost in thought for a long time.
Although the Royal City would allocate resources toward promising talents and specifically nurture those rising stars, resource distribution in Trolian was not entirely mandatory. It relied more on position, identity, and merit.
The Royal City placed great importance on fair environments and healthy atmospheres and, to some extent, surpassed harsh tactical considerations.
What surprised Rod the most was that the Royal City did not overly emphasize dedication and sacrifice. Instead, they repeatedly mentioned the importance of preserving living forces in necessary circumstances and not making futile sacrifices.
Rod had not understood this, not until Dalin told him that in Trolian, many warriors saw sacrifice as an honor, their glory lay in giving their lives for humanity, and returning to the embrace of fire was their dream.
They were not afraid to sacrifice; in fact, they actively sought it.
The lower the rank of the warrior, the more this was the case.
The severe loss of life that weakened the Royal City’s power was one of the reasons why Trolian had failed to expand over the past century.
This situation only began to change after the ascension of the New King.
Upon taking the throne, he did his utmost to alter the culture of the Kingdom, striving to create fairer environments and more open atmospheres, to build warmer academies so that warriors, even amid darkness, could recall moments of beauty. Facing tremendous pressure, he changed the way resources were allocated, raised the rewards for combat significantly, increased the pay for missions, and cautiously put more resources into those who had difficulty thriving.
To the shock of many opponents, the King’s decrees did not weaken Trolian’s military power. Instead, it substantially enhanced it, resulting in an explosive growth a few years later.
Most of Trolian’s expansion achievements were completed during that period.
It was also then that Dalin became one of the King’s loyal supporters and later resolutely joined the Holy Fire project.
Even when the Holy Fire project suffered severe setbacks, he maintained his belief that their King would succeed.
Now, they had emerged from hardship, having taken the most crucial step.
Yet at the same time, they stood on the edge of a precipice.
The war was far from satisfactory, the consequences of Spiritual Energy disturbances were much more severe than initially anticipated, progress was mired, and time was slipping away.
If they could not capture Storm Pass within forty days, they would inevitably fail to reach Tasnia Star City before the Bright Festival.
This war had nearly emptied half of Trolian’s storehouses; if they missed the annual Bright Festival, Trolian would not survive till next year, and the Holy Fire project would be a complete failure.
All their efforts up to this point would have gone to waste.
After enduring so much hardship, overcoming so many challenges, expending so much energy, and losing so many companions, was it all for nothing?
Dalin could not accept such an outcome.
Even if it meant dying at the command post, he would not accept that the man who had shone so brilliantly during the fire transfer ceremony could fail.
——
The order to transfer Kashan went through very quickly, and the Black Battle Group welcomed its fourth member.
Royal City, after a long time, Rod saw this proud girl once again.
She hadn’t changed much, only grown slightly taller, still possessing golden hair, eyes like a blue lake, and that washboard.
"Rod."
The moment she saw him, Kashan pressed her lips together, her eyes brimming with tears.
Knowing he had neglected her for too long, having promised many times to take her to the battlefield to fight side by side, yet never having delivered, she must be very sad, so he quickly spread his arms and walked towards her.
"I’m sorry, Kashan. Don’t cry. This time I will definitely..."
But Kashan raised her fists, a smile breaking through her tears.
"Rod, I finally have the strength to punch you into oblivion."
A flash of red light warned Rod of immense danger, prompting him to halt abruptly.
It was Soron, the instructor who had escorted her, who immediately coughed and intervened, shielding Kashan behind him.
"Rod, from now on Kashan is a member of your Battle Group. You must provide her with the necessary resources and training environment. Considering we’re colleagues, I’ll let you in on a secret: Kashan can smash a hundred wooden targets daily, her strength surprisingly immense. Don’t ever try to block her with something like a Spiritual Protection Field, or you’ll end up paying till it hurts."
With a chuckle, Rod replied, "Instructor Soron, you underestimate me. I don’t lack anything here; we won’t run short of training grounds."
A strange smile played on Soron’s lips, but he quickly composed himself and said in a serious tone.
"Although Kashan has not received the [Strong]designation due to her inconsistent performance, we still supply her with resources as if she had the [Strong] designation in secret branches. Kashan is of the Starfire Series, possessing three Fire Sparks: Seed of Anger, Steel Giant Strength, and Iron Hardening."
"Among them, Seed of Anger is the most important and must be exercised and strengthened. She requires at least two doses of Flame Burning Potion every day."
"And according to the principles of the Royal City, all the expenses of the battle team members are covered by the battle team, so this part of the potions will be a trouble for you to provide," Rod said, "As for Kashan’s salary, you decide it yourself, hahaha, I’m off."
Soron bounced back cheerfully, as if he had just solved a big problem.
Rod was annoyed but had no other choice.
And so, Kashan officially became a member of the Black Battle Group.
Rod arranged for her to stay near Silan’s large military training grounds.
The Black Battle Group had rented a special training ground here for Kashan’s training.
As for the Flame Burning Potions, Rod couldn’t get them right now and didn’t have a Hall Badge, so he could only owe them for the time being.
Kashan did not press him but simply went crazy beating on the targets in the training ground, her excessive strength damaging not only the targets but the training ground itself.
Rod didn’t care much about silver coins, but he couldn’t help breaking into a sweat after watching her.
It seemed that recruiting was a very high-risk and long-term undertaking, and Rod regretted not listening to the advice of the Book of Knowledge.
It also made him realize that trying to gain Divinity through this method was inefficient, at least for now.
Just as Rod was thinking of a solution, he suddenly received another Spirit Crow Messenger from Mephit, with just one sentence.
"Anna’s Soul is unstable."
Those seven words gave Rod a huge scare, and he immediately rushed to the Church’s number two medical facility, bursting into Anna’s room.
Thankfully!
The room looked relatively normal.
Mephit sat by the bed, silent, while Anna sat on the bed, her expression sullen, her eyes lifeless.
"What happened?"
Mephit whispered as low as possible into his ear, "Anna’s Soul is damaged and she cannot fight. Her sister sent word that her Soul is deformed and cannot go to the battlefield."
Rod instantly understood that Anna’s dream was to catch up with her "sisters" and fight alongside them, and this one sentence extinguished all hopes she had from her lifelong efforts.
Anyone would be devastated by the sudden loss of all hope.
But Rod merely gave a slight smile and pulled out a teardrop-shaped pearl.
"Here, Anna, drink this, and you can correct your deformed Soul."
Anna’s eyes suddenly sparked with fire, she looked at Rod in surprise, and then at the teardrop in his hand.
"Is, is that the Goddess’ Tears?"
Rod smiled, "That’s right, I have a few more, and Mephit has provided some materials for me."
Anna hesitated for a moment and asked softly, "Rod, are you sure you want to give it to me? I’ve heard from Mephit, Goddess’ Tears are very precious."
Rod stuffed the teardrop-shaped pearl into his hand.
"If I give it to you, you eat it. Why all the questions?"
Anna was still hesitant, "But, will it work?"
"It will!" Rod replied confidently, "I’ve checked, the deformation of your Soul is actually caused by a curse."
Anna took the Goddess’ Tears with a mix of belief and doubt.
After taking it, Anna fell onto the bed, her body starting to heat up and her consciousness becoming blurry.
Rod was pleased as his guess turned out to be correct and promptly pulled out an Ice Soul Trait Block.
"Here, this is for you."
Mephit took the jelly-like object exuding coldness with a flat tone tinged with a hint of surprise, "For me... Do you know what you’re doing?"
Rod smiled, "Don’t worry about that nonsense prophecy, just control your Characteristic."
Mephit said nothing more and silently put away the Soul Trait Block.
But in her silver-gray eyes, a strange cold light flickered momentarily.
