Chapter 63 - 52 Positions
Chapter 63: Chapter 52 Positions
Muso flicked his fingers, and a white Spiritual Power Barrier instantly separated Rod and the others from the inside.
He turned his head and looked at Manolo Bana sternly.
"Elder Gula, something isn’t quite right with you today. As the Great Judge of the Internal Affairs Court, it is not wrong for you to doubt everything, but your stance should be neutral. Yet, I feel that you are very much targeting this young friend, to an unreasonable extent. Of course, I hope you’d be fair, as humanity’s fire is flickering and cannot withstand more internal strife and fratricide."
Manolo Bana scoffed coldly, "That’s because you all are too lenient and too merciful."
He stood up, his gaze emanating a coldness like icy water.
"The world is cold and it is cruel. The flames of fire bring not only warmth but can also burn the enemy to ashes. We should bind ourselves with harsher discipline, fight with colder methods, and this waste!"
He pointed his thick finger at Rod’s shadow.
"He has such great suspicion on him that he should have been stripped of his soul and his secrets extracted long ago. It is impossible for him to be alive until now. The only reason Guardian Qingyu let him go is that he said something utterly ridiculous—the Doomsday believers couldn’t possibly be this ridiculous."
"Listen!"
"Hear this! What kind of reason is that?"
"She is so weak, so naïve. How could she possibly be a candidate for the King? If she becomes our King, the Trolian Kingdom will crumble and become just another ruin in the endless darkness, waiting to be proven and excavated throughout the endless ages, just as we have always done!"
Manolo Bana’s gaze was as sharp as a blade, causing even the big man Keith’s voice to drop.
"Maybe the King and the Elders have their reasons, which we can’t know."
Muso furrowed his brows deeply, "Elder Gula, the inheritance of the fire comes from ancient traditions. Whether or not Her Excellency Qingyu will become the New King remains to be seen by the Council’s review and judgment..."
Manolo Bana said sharply, "She used her reputation to shield him, and I will make her fall from grace! Let her understand how foolish, how naïve, and how irrational her actions are! The King will also know that she is not suitable for the position of the candidate!"
Muso’s brows were almost knotted together, his eyes filled with deep worry.
"I do not know how much suspicion little Rod has under the case you mentioned, but in this case, he has no suspicion..."
Manolo Bana coldly said, "How is there none? In my keen eyes, his words are full of loopholes."
He dispelled Muso’s Spiritual Power Barrier.
"For example, he claimed that he used a Thunder Stone to attack the Black Priest, dealing her a severe injury, which ultimately led to Karamon’s chance to rebel."
Keith spoke gruffly, "What’s the problem with that? The Thunder Stone inherently possesses powerful electric shock and paralysis effects and its Spiritual Power Wave is subtle and hard to detect; it’s a common combat supply in the City Defense Army."
Manolo Bana sneered coldly, "Charging a Thunder Stone to full requires two thousand moments of Spiritual Energy. He’s just ignited the Soul Fire and is of the Starfire Series, possessing just a useless, waste Fire Spark. Where would he get so much Spiritual Energy from?"
Both fell silent for a moment.
According to Rod’s previous statement, he had thrown four Thunder Stones, each with above half of their Spiritual Energy, in less than a quarter hour’s time.
That is to say, he had used up four thousand moments of Spiritual Energy within a quarter hour.
This level of Spiritual Power Strength surpassed most of the formal combatants.
Muso asked, "Little Rod, what is your Spiritual Power Level?"
Manolo Bana said mockingly, "No need to ask, it’s one; it’s even written down in the academy records."
They looked at each other, feeling it hard to explain, a sense of sorrow inevitably appearing in their eyes.
Yet, Rod’s heart blossomed with laughter.
"Frost Blue"’s recovery was still ongoing, and the effects of the Star under Limit Burning were indeed extraordinary. He now felt his soul revitalized and his Spiritual Energy abundant.
If he didn’t take the opportunity to smash this Manolo whatever’s face completely, he would truly be letting down the eight hundred souls he had invested.
"Hmph."
With a sneer, Rod pointed at the Iron Mask’s nose and said,
"Stupid, narrow-minded, prejudiced, your shallow insight is insufficient to comprehend the depth of my Spiritual Energy."
If Manolo Bana wasn’t wearing the Iron Mask, his face would have been twisted by now.
"What did you say?"
Rod laughed and said, "Have you not seen a genius before? Hasn’t the lengthy span of Trolian history witnessed several beings who were extraordinary? Is it so wrong for me to be born with profound Spiritual Energy?"
Manolo Bana roared, "If you were of the Spirit Fire Series, with your strong amplitude characteristic of Spiritual Power, I might believe you. But you’re a mere Starfire, with only one Fire Spark, a black bucket of nothing! A garbage Fire Spark with no clear function! How could you possibly have so much Spiritual Energy?"
Rod laughed, "Then test it. Don’t you have many tools for testing Spiritual Energy?"
Manolo Bana hesitated, as he had a bad feeling about this.
But Muso immediately agreed and instructed an appraisal officer to bring over a piece of Black Crystal.
It was diamond-shaped and cut into a neat dodecahedron.
"Charge it with energy. The time is one quarter hour; it takes five hundred moments to fill a cell. Considering your previous expenditure, if you can fill three cells, we will acknowledge your ability."
"Do you agree, Lord Gula?"
Manolo Bana’s face was grim as he remained silent, which was taken as tacit consent.
Rod placed his hand on the Black Crystal.
It was cool to the touch, and there was a strange suction feeling, as if it wanted to absorb his soul into itself.
He had just channeled a bit of Spiritual Energy when it started to drain rapidly into the crystal.
That saves me some effort.
Rod smiled, channeling his Spiritual Energy with full force, and a hazy glow instantly appeared where his hand met the Black Crystal.
Soon, one of the cells in the Black Crystal lit up, emitting a dim light.
Rod felt a bit of spiritual fatigue, so he slowed down the emission of his Spiritual Energy, causing the light on his hand to suddenly dim.
Manolo Bana allowed a slight smile to appear, speaking in a tone that was far from well-meaning.
"You can remove your hand if you can’t continue, to prevent the Black Crystal from over-absorbing Spiritual Energy and damaging your soul."
Rod ignored him, closing his eyes and sensing the state of his soul.
When the sensation of fullness appeared once again deep within his spirit, Rod hastened the output.
Quickly, a second cell was also illuminated.
This time, Muso and Keith smiled.
Manolo Bana closed his mouth.
After a moment, Rod once again slowed the emission, waiting for his Spiritual Energy to recover.
Soon, the third cell was lit.
Keith suddenly stood up, exclaiming loudly, "Lord Gula, your speculation is wrong again!"
Manolo Bana’s expression was concealed behind the Iron Mask, unreadable.
"Doubting is my right, without my doubts, you would never discover the truth."
He spoke coldly, standing up and sweeping his robe aside.
"You have completely lost the stance of neutrality; I need not waste my time here any longer. I will conduct an on-site investigation, find more clues, and catch the fleeing Black Priest and her accomplices."
He gave Rod a profound look as if he was that "accomplice," someone who had escaped trial through deceit, and he would surely see to it that Rod faced execution and the punishment of fire.
"The Internal Affairs Court will soon become involved in the investigation; no Doomsday believer will escape our pursuit."
Iron Mask spoke his last words and turned away.
Meanwhile, Rod’s charging had not ceased; he had now lit up the fourth cell and was continuing.
Muso and Keith didn’t interrupt until a quarter of an hour had passed, and then they roused Rod.
Eight of the twelve cells were lit.
Rod touched his nose, feeling somewhat unfulfilled; he was far from his limit.
However, the usual time for a Spiritual Energy test was a quarter of an hour.
According to Rod’s conversion, a quarter of an hour here was roughly equivalent to ten minutes.
It was quite reasonable, neither too long nor too short.
Muso, looking at the Black Crystal which was now lit in over half of its cells, saw his wrinkles smoothing out as he spoke:
"Little Rod, your talent is quite impressive. Please work even harder; we await the day you bring us hope."
Keith exclaimed loudly, "The position of squad captain has been reserved for you. Waaah..."
Muso covered his mouth, stuffing the Black Crystal into Rod’s arms.
"Take this, consider it a gift from our meeting,"
"You may return to the academy now, but do not speak of today’s events to any student. We might contact you later, or we might not. Please do not be offended."

After Rod left, Muso’s expression quickly darkened.
"Something is not right, Gula is too aggressive. Him stating his stance so directly, does he genuinely think this way..."
"Or is he using it to cover something up?"
