Chapter 465 - 301: Star, White Tower, and Ancient God (First Update)

Chapter 465: Chapter 301: Star, White Tower, and Ancient God (First Update)

The White Tower was located on the westernmost part of the Upper City, atop a high cliff by the mountain.

It was a colossal tower entirely white in color, with a radius at its base of at least a thousand yards.

The long body of the tower even stretched beyond the range illuminated by the Holy Fire, plunging directly into the Black Fog.

When Rod caught sight of this enormous structure, he was truly astounded.

It wasn’t until several apprentices tugged at his sleeve that he snapped back to reality.

"Such a large tower must have many people inside, right?"

"Not many," an apprentice in a white robe shook his head and answered, "Including attendants, the White Tower has only two hundred people."

"That few?"

"Yes, the White Tower is a special building, half of it lies within the Spirit Realm, and the air inside is contaminated by the essence of the Spirit Realm, unsuitable for those without the Star Characteristic to reside for long."

"Star Characteristic... what is that?"

"Star Sensing, Star’s Eye, Star Omen, these three characteristics are collectively known as the Star Characteristic, belonging to the prophetic branch. Only those who possess these three characteristics can become Prophets and Observers of the White Tower, dwell in it long term, and be unaffected by the corruption of the Spirit Realm’s air."

"Spirit Realm’s air... can it erode human bodies?"

The apprentice arrived at the grand entrance of the White Tower and patiently explained.

"The Spirit Realm is not the Realm of the Living, it is the realm of spirits and energy. The air of the Spirit Realm erodes the souls and assimilates the flesh of humans until they merge completely with the Spirit Realm."

"People without the Star Characteristic are unsuitable for prolonged activities in the Spirit Realm; even those with the Star Characteristic need to periodically leave to alleviate the corruption of their souls by the Spirit Realm."

Rod hesitated for a moment and asked, "But I have seen many monsters from the Spirit Realm..."

The apprentice shook his head, "They are not living beings."

He lightly placed his hand on the door; suddenly, numerous white lights crisscrossed from beneath the door, converging upwards to form an enormous pattern.

With a bang, the door opened.

A strange air hit him in the face, giving Rod a faint sensation of returning to the Dream Realm.

Is this the air of the Spirit Realm?

But what caught Rod’s attention more was what he had just said.

"What do you mean by monsters are not living beings? Then what is a living being?"

The apprentice looked at him oddly.

"Living beings possess spiritual awareness and intelligence. The souls of monsters are chaotic and disordered. Rather than calling them souls, they are more like condensates of some sort of Black Fog, existing merely to sustain and drive the twisted bodies materialized from dark matters."

Another apprentice, noting that Rod wasn’t much older than them, continued explaining.

"The essence of monsters is Black Fog, which we call the Dark Law. Monsters are manifestations of the Dark Law, and they assume different forms due to different characteristics and mediums, but their essence remains Black Fog."

"Their spirit and flesh are highly integrated, so whether you destroy their soul or body, their whole existence will collapse. The Black Fog will return to the Void, leaving only the ash of their body and the condensates of lingering power behind."

Rod suddenly realized, no wonder every time he killed a monster, they turned into black ash scattered in the air.

Leaving behind nothing but a pile of Embers and a dab of condensed Monster Ash.

A thought suddenly crossed his mind.

If that was the case, then what was the soul he had seized? What were the black lines that had entered his body?

Of course, he didn’t voice these questions, but simply changed the subject.

"Then is there no pollution in the Monster Ash? I heard that they often use Monster Ash to make Potions, Spiritual materials, weapons, equipment, and even food."

The apprentice shook his head.

"No, the freshly generated Monster Ash is quite pure. Once the fundamental Black Fog collapses and returns to the Source, you could even mix the ash with rice and eat it; it might restore Spiritual Energy and increase the strength of your soul."

Another apprentice added, "But if it’s left for too long and comes into contact with the outside, it will get polluted and gradually turn into Corrosive Material."

"So, as soon as we kill a monster, we must immediately clean the battlefield and store the Monster Ash in a Red Stone casket or ash bag."

"In large battlefields, we have a specific profession to clean the battlefield and collect the ash."

Rod nodded.

He knew this; they were called Collectors, typically agile common people.

Having continued for a thousand years, the system of the Royal City was fairly well established.

During the casual conversation, Rod followed the apprentices into the White Tower.

The interior space of the tower was magnificent, filled with flashing Spiritual Crystals and bizarre devices; at a glance, it looked like a Crystal Palace.

Although there were not many people, the space was very clean, with no dust and only a slight disarray.

In some rooms, Rod saw huge tables and chairs and even larger star charts.

In another room, Rod saw papers covered in various mathematical symbols scattered on the floor and an old man sitting on the ground deep in meditation.

"What is he doing?" Rod asked.

The apprentice told him.

"That’s Simon; he is calculating the orbits of the stars, trying to find the laws of star movement to predict each future Star Phase."

Rod took a quick glance and saw the papers on the floor were filled with complex partial differential equations and matrixes, along with some data for vortex soliton resonator models.

The complexity and the sheer volume of calculations were seemingly beyond human capabilities.

"That’s impressive,"

p>Rod sincerely marveled.

Even though he himself was quite talented in mathematics, he could not wield various powerful mathematical tools at will.
