Chapter 447: Chapter 294 Thief King_2
Rod furrowed his brows.
Though Talinus was not entirely clear, that Iron Mask Manolo Bana certainly had issues with him, he always felt targeted by the man for reasons unknown.
Rod shared his suspicions.
Dalin was silent for a moment.
"Perhaps,"
he said uncertainly.
"It could be due to factional reasons. Manolo Bana is always seen close to Jon, and your relationship with Qingyu is also quite special. He might just be looking to undermine Qingyu’s influence."
Rod frowned and said, "Can’t you change the system for selecting the king? This only intensifies the infighting, doesn’t it?"
Dalin gave a wry smile and shook his head.
"Young Rod, this is a millennia-old tradition of Trolian. The King is the heart of Trolian, and the quality of the King is more important than anything. After a great King ascends the throne, these losses and cracks can be healed."
"A stable Elder Council can also ensure the fundamental stability of Trolian, preventing great rifts due to disputes over the kingship."
A Bishop said, "The great first-generation hero Trolian considered everything when designing the top-tier system of the Royal City. All we’ve done is to further perfect it."
Rod sighed, "Haven’t you already confirmed Jon as the next king? Why continue?"
Dalin looked at the King, who nodded subtly.
With a solemn expression and taking a few puffs of his cigarette, Dalin said slowly, "Nothing is certain, and perhaps with future changes in the situation, it’s not impossible for Miss Qingyu to continue her reign. After all, with a king’s husband like you, according to ancient tradition, you would be able to assist her in governance."
Rod’s expression darkened.
"I have no intentions of becoming one of two thousand king’s husbands."
The King said indifferently, "We’ll discuss this matter later. The current issue is that we are already at a disadvantage. Similar tactics are no longer effective, otherwise, you as the captain will be forced to resign."
Dalin said with a grim face.
"I’m particularly suspicious that we have a traitor within our ranks, otherwise why would they also choose the Royal Palace? And why act just one day in advance?"
"There’s more."
Another Bishop spoke up.
"I examined the traces at the scene. With our security measures, just the Queen’s Talisman of Sigles wouldn’t be enough to sneak in with a Black Fire Bomb."
Rod asked, "Could it be the influence of the Book of Destiny?"
He recounted the mysterious figure he encountered after being attacked by three Chief Judges, who not only mentioned the "Book of Destiny" but also called him the "Son of Destiny," unsure of its specific significance.
After hearing this, the King sighed softly.
"The Book of Destiny is a Demi Divine Artifact, made of Source Material and Divinity. We ventured into the Sagus Ancient City three times at great risk and didn’t find it, yet it was stolen by the Doomsday believers."
Upon hearing the word "Divinity," Rod’s spirit was jolted, and he couldn’t help asking, "What use is this book, exactly?"
"The primary function of the Book of Destiny is to foretell the future’s fate and to make it the true destiny."
There was an unusual hint of regret in the King’s expression.
"All its subordinate characteristics evolve from this main feature. Those Doomsday believers only utilize its secondary characteristics and hold its true abilities in contempt."
Rod said in surprise, "Why? If the Book of Destiny is so powerful, couldn’t they just rewrite the future to their liking?"
The King shook his head slightly.
"The more causality involved in a fated destiny, the more Spiritual Energy it requires."
"The most effortless way to alter destiny is to go with the flow, to change it when you’re already moving with the current."
"For example, when we battle a formidable monster, securing our complete victory without any casualties, as long as we have a significant chance of achieving this, then it will happen."
Rod instantly understood.
"No wonder, it could only truly be effective in our hands, perhaps preventing many unexpected events."
Dalin said gravely, "The ’Son of Destiny’ may be some sort of prediction the Doomsday believers have for you, but that’s not important right now. Lord Theodore has already confirmed that there’s nothing wrong with your soul. Further inspections and prophecies are unnecessary at this moment, as resources are still very tight; there’s no need for waste."
The King let out a soft sigh.
"I’m very suspicious of the role the Book of Destiny has played in this. It could be the destiny they’ve plotted, but that’s not certain. Manolo Bana and Talinus both have their dubious aspects and we can’t completely rule out the suspicion of Doomsday believers."
Dalin asked, "Your Majesty, what should we do now?"
The King replied, "If open measures won’t work, then we must resort to covert ones. If that fails, we’ll have to take a tougher approach."
Dalin said with a troubled look, "But this way, our losses will be considerable. The progress of our war preparations is already below desired levels. We have much less in stock than imagined, and some factories are already in decay; a turnaround is virtually impossible..."
He rambled on, but the King turned away, gazing toward the distant Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground.
"We must eradicate them root and stem."
He said decisively,
"No matter the cost."

The situation is not looking good.
Although it’s about being covert, there’s still no concrete plan.
The plan to eliminate the pests had been forced to a halt and was stuck at this juncture.
