The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 401 - 275: Feigning Death
Chapter 401: Chapter 275: Feigning Death
Levill was about to explode with anger.
Just a moment ago, he almost believed what Rod had said, and he was ready to jump out and snatch the Ancestral inheritance when he realized he had been tricked again.
Being deceived over and over again by a young kid, Levill had completely lost his mind.
"You little bastard, I’m going to flay you, dismantle your bones, draw out your soul, and shatter it, just to see what secrets you’re hiding!"
Rod knew things were not looking good, but a look of joy appeared on his face as he laughed, "Not bad, it turns out I have a descendant like you. Those two wastes don’t deserve my power, but you do."
Levill roared furiously, "Bullshit! Do you think I’m retarded?"
He spread open his palm, aiming it at him.
"Decree, Imprisonment!"
An invisible force appeared around Rod, the air turning into ropes that bound them both.
But in the next moment, Rod also opened his palm, and following Krama’s instincts, used the corresponding decree.
"Decree, Freedom!"
The air dispersed instantly, and Rod regained his ability to breathe, sneering.
"My descendant, do you believe now?"
Levill shouted in rage, "Trying to fool your grandpa again? That’s Krama’s habit, you have Soul Devouring abilities, right? You consumed his soul and obtained his abilities, correct?"
A shock went through Rod’s heart, but his expression remained unchanged.
"You are too suspicious, this is your last chance..."
Levill cursed angrily, "Last chance my granny’s entire family’s dog shit!"
"...you should grab hold of it."
"Grab hold of your XX!"
Rod scoffed, "A Chief Judge with such low quality, no wonder you’re in such a miserable state."
Veins bulged on Levill’s forehead as he cursed fiercely, spewing all kinds of filthy language.
Seizing the opportunity, Rod quickly said, "Mephit, hide behind me, try to freeze him; leave the rest to me."
At the same time, he immediately asked in his mind, "Book, another powerful enemy has arrived, any other ideas?"
The Book of Knowledge quickly responded.
"I see another soul with the Giant bloodline characteristic, you can burn it again to enhance your own characteristic."
"That’s possible?"
"Yes, repeatedly burning souls with the same characteristic can strengthen the abilities obtained from the soul. Some souls are weaker and require multiple burnings to acquire their power."
"What about burning different souls?"
"It will replace the effect of the previous soul."
As Rod kept inquiring, he quickly arrived at the Soul Altar, picked up Amoli’s soul again, and used the burning.
The mist-like soul scattered instantly, disappearing without a trace.
Another layer of hazy mist appeared on his spiritual body.
Rod immediately returned to the material world.
Levill was still cursing furiously, but he was very cautious in his gaze, not recklessly approaching Rod or continuing to use decrees; instead, he closely monitored him from a hundred yards away.
Mephit was at an even farther distance, quietly using the Cold Ice Attribute.
Levill did not notice, as he cast three searing talismans on himself and used a warm decree.
Freezing would have no effect now.
The key was what to do with this little bastard.
Although his raw strength wasn’t strong, being only a Fifth Level Combatant, his myriad tactics were infuriating, emerging one after the other in an unimaginable fashion; one careless move and it could all be over.
Krama and Amoli were a clear warning.
When he thought of those two idiots, Levill’s rage boiled over. His original plan had been to use the Aries Demon to destroy Star Town.
But it failed.
Then he wanted Krama the Instigator to commit murder and take the fall, but Krama ended up getting killed instead.
He had to coax Amoli into committing murder and taking the blame, but Amoli also messed up.
Now, he was in a predicament and had to kill this wretch at all costs, perhaps using his last trump card might offer a glimmer of hope.
Otherwise, death was certain.
Two bodies that shouldn’t have been here lay in this place; without involving the White Tower, the Internal Affairs Court could thoroughly investigate.
Frustration and anger filled Levill’s heart.
How had they ended up in this situation, step by step? Levill didn’t want to think about it too deeply. He had failed too many times in Star Town, so let this humiliating history end here.
"Decree, Spiritual Energy Disturbance!"
Levill stealthily spread open his palm within his sleeve, aiming at Rod, and silently invoked the method.
According to his experience, the more chaotic the soul’s characteristics, the lower its stability; once his Spiritual Energy was disturbed, all his methods would lose their effectiveness.
But Rod’s robe only fluttered for a moment, and then there was no response at all.
"Useless?"
Levill’s eyes widened.
"No, that’s not right, the decree disappeared; it was replaced by a stronger one, but I didn’t see him casting any decree?"
He suddenly realized a terrifying fact.
"A silently and instantly cast decree?"
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible, not even my characteristic is that strong!"
Rod saw the changes in his expression and immediately sensed an opportunity, laughing, "Levill, do you feel it?"
Levill bellowed, "Nonsense!"
He opened his palm, ready to use the Shock Decree, when suddenly a heavy punch landed on his head, sending his vision dark, nearly knocking him unconscious.
"This... his Shock Decree is faster than mine..."
Rod smiled, "Do you believe now? My descendant."
"Impossible! Don’t think you can deceive me!"
Levill used a variety of Decrees in rapid succession, but all were preemptively countered by Rod. The battle between Decrees was akin to a game of rock-paper-scissors, where victory was assured if one could predict the opponent’s moves and respond with a countering Decree first.
Although Rod’s Spiritual Power Level was too low to inflict substantial damage, for a user of Decrees, the utter defeat of his basis for survival dealt an infinite psychological blow.
Rod’s expression gradually grew colder.
"Levill, this is your last chance, if you continue to be wilfully ignorant then I’ll have to assume your intelligence is defective and you are incapable of inheriting my power."
Levill’s expression clearly wavered. In the entire Royal City, the level of his Giant Attribute was the highest. In the Mechanical Research Institute’s Spirit Quality Crystals, his Characteristic displayed seven Fireworks, more than anyone else.
Even if Rod was some unknown illegitimate child (which was also impossible, as there were only ten descendants of Giants among the ten Chief Judges), it was impossible for his Characteristic level to exceed his own.
This was another unexplainable phenomenon.
"You..."
Levill tried to say something, but in the next moment, he heard his own voice in his mind.
"Fake, this is fake, his Characteristic has become stronger after Devouring two souls."
Levill sobered up at once and shouted angrily, "You dare to continue deceiving me!"
He opened his palm: "Decree, Vacuum!"
Rod, instinctively triggered, cast his Gale Decree right after, and a strong wind instantly filled the vacuumed Domain.
"You’re still not giving up? My patience is limited."
Levill shouted furiously, "Nonsense! Nonsense!"
But successive offensive setbacks made him consider retreat. The young man in front of him was too enigmatic, and too many inconceivable things had happened. If he kept fighting and got caught in a trap, what then?
Moreover, his Characteristic was so darkly evil. Soul Devouring was an absolute, unforgivable taboo in the Royal City; even in the more relaxed current environment, this rule hadn’t been slacked.
If he used this against Rod, maybe blaming him for it, there might still be a way out for himself.
However, just as he thought of escaping, he heard his own voice in his mind again.
"His Spiritual Energy Level is too low, he can’t use many more Decrees. If the battle continues, his Spiritual Energy will deplete."
Levill was instantly alert, ignoring Rod’s words meant to shake his resolve and focusing on using decrees.
This time Rod was in trouble. His Spiritual Energy was depleting too fast. If this continued, he would soon run out.
Why isn’t backup arriving?
Rod was anxious and while casting Decrees, he secretly took out Condensed Light and hid it in his sleeve to shoot at him.
Levill instantly sidestepped the bullet, scoffing, "No more to say now? Does the King of Giants use Spiritual Energy firearms?"
Rod sighed, "I really don’t know what to say if such a foolish lie can fool people."
Rage nearly caused Levill’s Spiritual Energy to lose control; he immediately steadied his mind and focused on using Decrees.
Rod mocked, "Chief Judge, dare to take a bullet from me?"
Levill remained silent.
Rod’s verbal taunts continued, but his heart sank. Suddenly, a sharp pain coursed through his soul, incapacitating him from using a countering Decree.
A Shock Decree struck him down in an instant.
Levill seized the opportunity, leaped forward, and a Spiritual Energy longsword appeared in his hand, slashing towards his limbs.
Rod used the last bit of his Spiritual Energy to quickly cast an Enhancement Decree on himself while also using the "Flesh Armor," and he took the Starry Longsword from the grey-robed Fire Guardians of Star Town out of the Dream Realm.
Clang!
The Starry Longsword parried the Spiritual Energy longsword, and with flesh armor covering his entire body, Rod leaped up and crossed swords with Levill.
Levill sneered, "Do you have some sort of misunderstanding about the basic combat abilities of a Third Level combatant?"
Crack!
With a flick of his wrist, the Starry Longsword was instantly sent flying.
Another thrust of his sword, and the flesh armor was pierced through.
Rod stepped back, blood flowing within his armor. The Undying Spirit was already in his hand; he had made four in total, had previously used one, and three remained.
Levill sneered, "I’ll chop off your limbs first and see what tricks you have left."
Rod knew that today he might not escape unscathed and yelled, "Run, Mephit, I’ll hold him off!"
But Mephit did not immediately flee. Instead, she asked, "Do you have a plan? Do you need me to kill him?"
Levill burst into laughter, "Another madman who can’t recognize his own strength, do you think you’re formidable? A Seventh Level Spiritual Power thinking of killing a Tenth Level Spiritual Power, this is the funniest joke I’ve heard. Don’t worry, after I deal with him, I’ll come for you. None of you will escape today."
Boom!
Rod took advantage of him speaking to fire another shot, but Levill easily dodged it with a sneer, "Stop struggling, it’s useless."
He raised his Spiritual Energy longsword to chop down at his arm.
Rod dodged this sword with all his might, but the flesh armor was split open from top to bottom, leaving a long gash across his chest and abdomen, blood spilling out.
Mephit asked again, "Rod, do you need me to kill him?"
"If you can kill him, then kill!" Rod urged hastily, "If you can’t, run!"
Levill sneered, "I want to see how you..."
Whoosh!
White ice crystals pierced down from the top of his head. A burst of cold air, like lightning, flew towards him and a huge ice shard cleaved his entire body in two.
Fear and disbelief lingered on the two halves of his face; blood slid across the ice shard, leaving not a trace behind.
Plop.
Two halves of the body fell to the ground.
Mephit turned her head back, cold air cascading down her body like a waterfall, tiny ice crystals swirling around her. A vast semi-circular ice shard was on her right arm.
It was this very ice shard that had divided Levill in two.
She had somehow reverted to that stunning beauty, with silver hair dancing in the cold air and silver-white eyes gathering like ice and snow.
Rod was stunned for a long while before coming to his senses. Overjoyed, he exclaimed, "You were this strong all along! Why didn’t you act sooner?"
Mephit simply replied, "You didn’t say."
Rod scratched his head in a mix of excitement and anger, "How would I know if you don’t tell me? I thought you could only freeze people..."
Before he could finish, the two halves of the body on the ground suddenly leaped up.
