Chapter 392: Chapter 271 Imminent

Rod was about to take Mephit to the combat base to meet with his comrades when the loud bell tolls resounded through Star Town.

Officials of Star Town darted through the streets, yelling, "Monster attack! First Level battle readiness! All non-combatants must immediately return to the Sanctuary! Do not linger on the streets!"

"Repeat! First Level battle readiness, all non-combatants evacuate immediately!"

The pace of the crowd suddenly quickened as they rushed toward the Sanctuary—the Underground City to the east.

Although their faces were tense, there was no fear.

Many people took it upon themselves to maintain order and organize the evacuation.

The defensive mechanisms of Star Town had become quite refined, thanks to the efforts of Molly.

As a senior dispatcher in the Military War Department, she thoroughly understood the town’s defense layout and, after taking control of the main body of Star Town, she designated the Underground City to the east as the emergency sanctuary for wartime.

The special construction of the Underground City made it incredibly safe, with its walls and gates reinforced by Spiritual Energy proving to be very sturdy. The former Starry Kingdom intended to build it as a combat base, but times had changed. To the east of Star Town was no longer the boundless Dark World but rather the Trolian Royal City, and to the west, the Starry Kingdom had become a haven for monsters.

The combat base became a sanctuary, and there was no better place for it.

For the residents of Trolian, such incidents were not uncommon, and the ever-victorious Defender Rod gave them a great sense of security. They believed he would achieve Victory once more, just like before.

But Rod’s brows furrowed.

He remembered instructing Molly not to use First Level battle readiness unless it was an absolute emergency.

It would affect production.

"Let’s hurry and see what the situation is."

Rod grabbed Mephit’s hand and quickly headed for the combat base at the town center.

His speed had become extremely fast now, surpassing that of the past by dozens of times, yet Mephit’s speed was still on par with his.

"This girl, she was going easy on me before," Rod thought.

They quickly arrived at the combat base.

At a glance, the vast square was already filled with all the Combatants of Star Town.

Under the bright firelight, a sea of heads stretched as far as the eye could see. Yet no one was whispering or eavesdropping; all the troops were arrayed in neat rows, awaiting the command of their leader.

Although their Combat Levels were not high, anyone who had become an official Combatant had undergone strict training.

They understood very well how to fight monsters, knowing that acting on their own and disrupting order would result in their own deaths, endangering their comrades and dimming the already dim flame of human civilization.

If it was just about the intensity of training, Rod was far from their match. His growth had been leaps and bounds, for having the talent of a genius was like this, extraordinary and enviable.

Rod had once worried that he would be met with jealousy and suppression.

But during the course of his growth, he only encountered euphoria from those eager to climb on his coattails and dissatisfaction from those who found his growth too slow.

This could be considered a feature of Trolian.

An extreme admiration for the Strong, an extreme thirst for the emergence of the powerful.

Just like now.

When Rod appeared in the square, the neatly organized troops became disordered as the crowd surged forward, eagerly wanting to hear his voice, feel his invincible aura, and hoping he would create another Miracle.

The square erupted into chaos with voices shouting his name, and countless words ultimately converged into one phrase.

"Black Whatchamacallit, undefeated in battle!"

Rod’s face was skewed with frustration.

But it was Theodore’s way of protecting him; his Fire Spark name was now set in stone, impossible to change.

"I must find a way to get a more imposing nickname in the future," Rod thought to himself. "Otherwise, they will always address me by my first Fire Spark, which is really unbearable."

He had the Captains immediately reorganize the formation, then entered the hall with Mephit.

The strategy meeting had already begun.

Molly was presiding over the meeting, with attendees including squad leaders O’Hara and Conrad, Beowood, special members Allo, Vivian, and Anna among others.

Their faces were solemn as they focused on the central sand table composed of a large glowing fog.

This was a Spiritual Energy imaging device, normally used to simulate battlefields.

The glowing fog at the center represented Star Town, its shape a bit peculiar, connected to Ghost Spirit Lake to the south, resembling an upside-down wedge.

Beyond the glowing fog was all light black mist, representing the Dark World not illuminated by the firelight, occupying ninety-nine percent of the space on the sand table.

The luminous wedge only took up a tiny spot.

What was particularly striking was the light brown "tail" at its end, extending all the way out of the sand table.

This was a carved-out path, leading continuously to Star City in the northeast.

All personnel and materials were transported through this route.

Molly said, "This is a gift from Mahara to us, a super-large Spiritual Energy imaging device, which is normally not for sale, and because of its large battlefield scale, Star Town appears rather small."

Vivian said softly, "That’s positive. All this time, our victories have been too easy, and many people have developed a complacent attitude, thinking that as long as Lord Rod fights, everything will turn out well. But that’s not the case, as we can see. We are incredibly tiny in the face of the real Dark World. We can win a hundred times, a thousand times, but if we lose just once, everything is over."
