Chapter 383: Chapter 268: May the Holy Fire and Money Forever Protect Us
When Chucher returned to the team’s lodge, Elder Palos was already waiting for him at the door.
"How did it go?" he asked coldly.
Chucher smiled and said, "Your Excellency Palos, Rod is very, very stubborn. It took a Herculean effort just to barely persuade him to talk. Tomorrow, you mustn’t be forceful, remember to accommodate him, otherwise if he pushes back, it will be difficult for you to explain when you return."
Palos snorted, "A mere kid, what’s with all the fuss?"
Chucher seriously said, "Your Excellency, he is no ordinary person. In such a short time, the whole of Star Town has rallied under him, and his prestige has deeply infiltrated their hearts. It’s no longer something that could be achieved merely with the legacy of Lord Theodore."
"You shouldn’t simply think of him as a lucky fellow. If handled poorly, this matter will definitely cause a lot of trouble. As a former Commander of the Conquest Legion, you surely wouldn’t want to tarnish your later years, would you?"
Palos snorted again and, without responding, turned back to his room.
Chucher spat quietly behind him, thinking to himself that tomorrow he must cooperate with young Rod to squeeze all the crap out of you.
The next day.
Everyone arrived at Ghost Spirit Lake as if nothing had happened, in unspoken agreement.
There was nothing here that gave the slightest hint of the words "Ghost Spirit" anymore.
The light of the Guardian Fire covered the whole area, the towering Holy White Tree brought a breath of life, the fertile land was filled with farmers tilling, Life Priests were praying under the Holy White Tree, and around them frolicked ordinary animals such as Nine-Headed Dogs and Ten-Tailed Cats.
The clear lake water reflected the firelight, and a few small boats floated on the lake surface. If one ignored the cleaners at the shore dredging the remains of corpses from the lake bed, the whole scene still had a rather poetic and picturesque feel.
The Sun Crystal Vein was at the foot of a small hill on the west side.
The entrance was constructed quite magnificently, bearing the emblem of the Starry Kingdom on the mine door, signifying that it had lain dormant for fifteen hundred years.
But it didn’t feel the least bit outdated; it looked as though it had been in operation just yesterday.
According to historians and archaeologists, this mine had been concealed by a special Spirit Realm Barrier by the Starry Kingdom about sixteen hundred years ago. They had limitedly altered the Field of the Material World and the Spirit Realm here, making this vein technically exist in an overlapping state of the Material World and the Spirit Realm.
If not dispelled, it would have been impossible to discover.
If Rod had not mastered the control of the Spirit Realm, finding this mine would have been impossible.
While explaining the details of this mine, Molly subtly inserted many personal agendas, highlighting Rod’s role in this matter.
Palos kept his face stern and untouched by words.
However, when they had finished examining the vein, his face began to tense up.
The preservation state of this vein was extraordinarily good; the former Starry Kingdom had taken great care of it, managing the mining more like an archeological dig, incredibly cautious and meticulous.
The entire vein had not suffered any irreversible damage. The shafts were neat and orderly, and the pits were clearly and distinctly laid out, not at all like a mine, but more like an exquisite Underground City.
One should know, mining a Sun Crystal Vein is a very troublesome matter.
Due to the powerful energy contained within, Sun Crystals become very unstable once separated from the ore body—alteration, pollution, explosion, and energy leakage are all very common accidents.
The exploration, stripping, and digging of the entire vein must be done with great caution.
Although this vein had already been mined by half, the heritage of the Starry Kingdom could greatly reduce their initial efforts.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that this mine itself was worth a fortune.
Palos coughed and said with a congenial face, "Your Excellency Rod, your achievements will be firmly remembered by the Royal City. If you have any requests, we will certainly fulfill them."
Rod smiled and said, "Really? That’s great, just as First Elder Amendo has served the Royal City painstakingly for so many years, he also deserves some rest. I have made such great contributions, let me take the position of the First Elder."
All the wrinkles on Palos’s face squeezed together.
He had a typically elongated face, with a protruding chin, and the wrinkles skewed together made it seem as if his whole face was twisted.
"Stinky... Your Excellency Rod, please don’t joke, I am being sincere..."
Rod’s smile remained unabated.
"I am very sincere too. Look, the True Silver Vein providing one-fifth of the True Silver output for the Royal City, the Sun Crystal Vein, incredibly precious, and then look at this prosperous Star Town, such a vast living space, already accommodating hundreds of thousands, significantly relieving the Royal City’s pressure, a remarkable contribution to humanity."
"And I, who have made such vast and great achievements, surely can become the First Elder?"
With his face full of wrinkles no longer able to contain the veins bulging beneath his skin, Palos was about to burst out in anger when Chucher poked him in the rear, whispering.
"Stay calm, Elder Palos, remember my words from yesterday."
Palos took a deep breath, forcing himself to display a amiable expression.
"Your Excellency Rod, the First Elder must be a highly respected, senior, unanimously regarded, and capable individual who can win over the masses to take on the role. Elder Amendo fully meets these criteria; that’s why he was elected as the First Elder. You are still young..."
