The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 354 - 248 Riding and Slaying
Chapter 354: Chapter 248 Riding and Slaying
[Flesh Armor]: Cover the entire body with living flesh to form armor.
The brownish-red flesh spread over his body and swiftly wrapped around Rod.
Molly harbored no doubts, as the Royal City abounded with all sorts of peculiar soul creations, far too numerous to count. Unless it was extremely potent, the Royal City paid little mind.
Just as Rod was about to charge forward, a sword light struck at him like lightning.
Before Rod could complete his evasive maneuver, the longsword pierced through the Flesh Armor.
A sharp pain bore into his left shoulder as the sword edge pierced through the armor, wounding his shoulder.
Molly’s ghostly fog clung desperately to the sword edge, preventing it from penetrating any further, and continually spewed Spirit Light Arrows to attack it.
"Lord Rod!"
O’Hara sprinted over and raised his hand to block the second strike, but the longsword shattered his Pure Steel Body, leaving two deep, bone-visible gashes in his arm.
At the same time, Conrad and Beowood came from behind, one on the left and one on the right, and engaged the gray-robed figure in battle once again.
But O’Hara’s wounds worsened, and the situation became even more dire.
In an instant, Rod knew that his current strength was not enough to withstand a direct confrontation with a Strong Monster.
The actual combat abilities of O’Harra and others were far beyond his, it was only because he had been killing monsters single-handedly that their prowess had not been revealed.
Rod shouted, "Do you have a way to control it? Force it to blink!"
"Yes!"
O’Hara roared, "Old buddy!"
Conrad immediately understood, "No problem!"
O’Hara charged forward, once again pinning down the gray-robed figure’s longsword, but its immense Spiritual Energy exceeded the defense limit, cutting through his flesh and blood dripped down the blade.
O’Hara gritted his teeth and with a snap, managed to trap the sword edge with his bones.
Conrad reached behind and with a poke of his finger.
The gray-robed figure vanished once more, its combat instincts unmatched, proving it had been a formidable warrior in life.
When it reappeared, however, Rod’s gun barrel was already aimed there.
Boom!
A shot of Condensed Light fired!
A hundredfold Spirit Realm Bullet struck the target squarely, the intense Spiritual Power Shock rippling visibly through the air, blasting the gray-robed figure into dust.
O’Harra exclaimed ecstatically, "Did we do it?"
"No!"
Rod’s expression darkened; he hadn’t received the soul.
As expected, the next moment, the dust gathered again, and the gray-robed figure reemerged.
A flash of white light, and the longsword flew back into its hand.
Molly seriously said, "This is an ability of the active domain, it can resurrect."
Everyone felt the gravity of the situation as the gray-robed figure’s Spiritual Energy grew stronger, the overwhelming aura emanating from it made everyone feel as if they faced a colossal being.
Rod quickly checked the Dream Realm and found he still had two items that could come in handy, "Soul Defense" and "Pioneer of Destruction."
The former could ward off a fatal blow once.
The latter would burn life to gain tremendous strength, necessitating a Resurrection Stone.
In the current situation, neither was very useful.
But Rod had one more trump card.
"Soul Harvest."
It was a death stare, which he had used to slay a Corrupted Demon Dragon with just a glance.
But with his current Spiritual Power Strength, to kill a Strong Monster with a stare would mean having to wildly borrow Spiritual Energy from the Void again.
After so many experiences with Void’s Fury, Rod had roughly figured that if he used "Awakening" more than 30 times in a short period, death was certain.
And now he had only 12 Divinity left, enough to create a single Resurrection Stone.
Rod had no time to hesitate. He immediately entered the Dream Realm, quickly crafted the last Resurrection Stone, activated it, and set the resurrection point to his current location.
The whole process took no more than ten seconds, but by the time he returned to the Material World, all three had already fallen, bleeding profusely.
The gray-robed figure was pursuing Anna, who had transformed into a Centaur; it was much faster than Anna, but the latter evaded its attacks multiple times with her exceedingly agile turns.
Rod yelled, "Molly, go save them! I’ll take on the gray-robed monster!"
The ghostly mist didn’t hesitate for a second and flew off Rod’s body, rushing towards the three on the ground.
Rod glared over at the gray-robed figure.
Soul Harvest!
The gray-robed figure turned its head instantly and charged back at him.
No way? You’re that sensitive? What’s wrong with giving you a look?
Rod turned and ran for his life, shouting, "Anna, come save me!"
If he died here, it would be a huge loss, squandering a Resurrection Stone for nothing.
Without the Wind Black Silk, his speed dropped significantly. In less than a second, the gray-robed figure caught up, thrusting its sword at him.
Rod couldn’t dodge and had to open up his Spiritual Defense with all his might.
Shssst!
The longsword targeted his head, piercing through his Flesh Armor and Spiritual Defense, but it did not penetrate his skin.
Of course, it wasn’t because Rod’s skin was thick; it was because Anna had impaled the gray-robed figure’s head with a long spear, causing it to pause for a moment.
Rod tumbled to the side to dodge and yelled, "Well done, Anna!"
The gray-robed figure turned to chase after Anna.
But a glance from Rod, and it returned to him.
Anna threw a second spear, which, like it had eyes, hit the gray-robed figure’s head again, clearly causing it to pause. After half a second, it resumed, turning back to chase after her.
Rod exclaimed in ecstasy, "Good! Just like that!"
But Anna was in a hurry, "I can only throw sixteen paralyzing spears in a short time!"
Rod shouted, "Then find a way to come over!"
The two glared and threw spears, the grey-robed man was pulled back and forth multiple times, the monster had no emotions, no reason, it just acted on instinct.
When the spears were thrown, it chased after Rod who posed a lethal threat to it.
Taking the opportunity, Anna came around and yelled, "Get on!"
Rod leaped and jumped onto the horse’s back.
Anna shouted, "Wrap your arms around my waist! Hold on tight!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she made a sharp turn, her hooves shattering the ground, and Rod almost got flung off while the grey-robed man’s swift sword stabbed the air, leaving a scratch hundreds of steps long on the ground from the powerful wind pressure.
Anna scolded, "Around the waist! Not anywhere else!"
The fierce wind blew in their faces, and the ride was so bumpy that Rod dared not let go, firmly hugging her while glaring back at the grey-robed man.
Anna made another 180-degree tail swipe, dodging the grey-robed man’s pursuit with an almost perfect drifting maneuver.
Rod felt as if the whole world was spinning, as if it had been tossed into a tumble dryer, but he was still glaring at the grey-robed man.
The grey-robed man’s entire body was seething with spiritual energy, the fluctuations as intense as a terrifying behemoth, relentlessly biting at their heels.
Time after time, Anna narrowly avoided its pursuit, while Rod was flung about on her back, looking like a cape.
After a while, Anna shouted, "Okay! I can throw the spear now! Get off!"
With a sudden jerk of her upper body, Rod was thrown off like a rag, but he was still glaring at the grey-robed man.
And the grey-robed man, leaping through the air, was immediately hit in the head by a spear and fell down.
The tugging resumed.
After the sixteenth time, Anna rushed over and shouted, "Ride me!"
Rod leaped onto the horse’s back, starting a new chase.
Anna said angrily, "Can’t you just hold onto the waist?"
Dizzy from the tossing, Rod yelled, "I don’t know which part is the waist!"
"You!"
"It’s flickering! To the right!"
Anna made an extreme sideways dodge, avoiding the grey-robed man’s downward slash; with a bang, the entire ground collapsed.
Though a centaur, Anna’s movements were like those of a deer, hopping and skipping out of the big hole.
"This guy... is still getting stronger; can you handle it, Rod!"
"Shut up! I am the commander!"
"Its speed has gotten faster... No good, I have to take off my armor."
With a clatter, Anna removed all her armor, revealing her pure white and beautiful horse body, its limbs muscular and lines smooth, skin tight and flesh firm – just by looking, one could tell it was indeed a fine mare.
A quiver hung on one side of the horse’s body, its interior completely empty.
"What’s the deal with your spears?"
"They are made from spiritual energy. My magic release is centaur, and every time my characteristic level goes up, I get eight more paralyzing spears. They never miss and will always interrupt the action. My magic release is only at the second level, so I only have sixteen spears."
"Why are you only at the second level?"
Anna retorted angrily, "What can I do if my talent is not good enough? If I had a fourth level, I would already be with my sisters. Do you think I want to be here taking your crap?"
"Why are you so rubbish?"
"Go to hell!"
Whoosh!
Anna flung Rod off again.
A new round of tugging started.
This tugging was their rare chance to rest, the intense chasing proving too much for Anna’s stamina.
There were less than twenty seconds of rest between the sixteen spears.
Once again, Anna came sprinting over and shouted, "Get on!"
Rod leaped onto the horse’s back, this time more adept, but his embrace was still incorrect.
Anna didn’t bother to correct him again.
And so, they engaged in a chase with the monster, Rod and Anna growing more skilled in their coordination, gradually reaching a state of unity with centaur.
The next time Rod leaped onto the horse, the smoothness he felt made him laugh out loud.
"Haha, Centaur Realm! I’ve broken through!"
"Shut up, are you done? I’m so tired!"
"Almost there, it’s about to be glaringly dead."
——
Elsewhere, a large section of Star Town’s west side had been cordoned off as a no-go area, with no one allowed to approach.
Everyone knew that their commander was fighting with a super monster inside.
Molly had moved out three severely wounded people, with Blood Element temporarily preserving their lives; the best first-aid medicine allowed them to hold on until the real healer, Youse, arrived.
Youse had a grim look on his face, trying his utmost to heal them.
The others prayed silently; the constant booms and intense spiritual energy surges from the forbidden zone caused everyone great anxiety. The warriors would occasionally look to their deputy commander Molly, hoping to hear an order for reinforcement from her.
Molly’s lips were tightly closed, her expression stern; as soon as phenomena beyond comprehension began to occur on Rod’s body, she knew that what she ought to do most was to follow his orders unconditionally.
She had never felt such belief before.
He would surely return with a victory as swift as lightning.
Just like the Savior of legend.
