Chapter 344: Chapter 242 King of the Pot_2
His plan had no issues at all.
It’s just that now things needed to speed up.
Rod immediately sought out Molly.
She was working in a large hall within the Underground City.
It was a considerably large space at the bottom of the Underground City, close to the Guardian Fire Sacrificial Ground, which she had designated as her primary office location.
Speaking of which, Molly was actually much more hardworking than Rod. During the day, she had to merge with Rod, turning into a mist attached to him, providing him with the acceleration of ’Wind Black Silk’ and directing him, arranging the order of strikes, and even commanding the entire battlefield. She was extremely busy.
At night, she would come back to deal with logistics, supplies, combat planning, and a series of other matters, leaving her with hardly any free time.
When Rod arrived, she was furiously writing at her desk, but behind her were two strangers dressed as hunters, assisting her with document handling.
"Molly, who are these?"
Molly looked up, her gold-rimmed glasses shining under the firelight. Even while she worked, she wore ’Wind Black Silk’, her long, elegant legs crossed, the entrancing black and curvaceous white starkly eye-catching.
"Lord Rod, I was just looking for you. These are my hired assistants, Hunter Avi and Hunter Avia."
"This is our Commander, King’s Hand, Defender of Star Town, the young Lord Rod."
The two hunters stepped forward; although one was male and the other female, both possessed a striking and statuesque appearance, vibrant with youthful vigor.
Hunter Avi said, "Hello, Lord Rod. It’s our first time meeting; my name is Avi, and this is Avia."
"We greatly admire your heroic deeds and appreciate your efforts in expanding the frontiers for humanity. We worship the courage with which you battle the darkness. Therefore, we volunteered to assist you, but due to the restrictions of the Elder Council’s rules, we must request compensation that matches our status. Please understand."
Rod was very surprised. Apparently, my reputation as a hero had already spread far in Trolian; astonishingly, such graceful and adept beauties had come to join me.
Merely looking at their appearance, it was clear they were reliable, with formidable abilities, unlike someone as uneducated as myself.
He quickly grasped both of their hands, smiling as he spoke.
"I appreciate both of you braving dangers and traveling far to join us. Of course, I must provide your weekly salary; there’s no such thing as working for free. Sentiments don’t fill the stomach, nor can a heroic vision feed an empty belly."
"You two need not worry, I lack many things, but money is not one of them. Please rest assured and work here; all accommodations and sustenance are free, and the resources for training will also be plentiful. I can’t allow human beings fighting for humanity to be treated as consumables. Losing your future in a battle won’t happen here."
Avi and Avia looked at each other, their gazes filled with joy and a hint of worry.
"Then, thank you very much, Lord Rod. We will endeavor to complete our duties," they said.
"That’s good, keep up the hard work," Rod said, smiling. He turned his head but saw Molly looking at him with a very peculiar gaze, her eyes twinkling as if gazing at a brilliant starry sky.
"What’s the matter?" Rod touched his face. "Have I become more handsome? At this time, you’re still focused on this kind of thing? By the way, can we directly post tasks to the Hunter Group to hire hunters?"
Molly shook her head. "No, tasks for the hunter groups are issued by the head offices of the hunters, and the tasks at the hunter head offices are distributed by the Supreme Military War Department. Tasks we post would get blocked at the Military War Department level."
"Why? Would Commander Dalin disagree?"
Molly glanced at him with a warning look and continued, "The Supreme Military War Department is a collective. Specific tasks need to be discussed and approved through military meetings, and the elders have the right to attend these meetings."
"What about them?"
Avi answered, "Avia and I are volunteers. Hunters possess a certain degree of freedom."
After thinking for a moment, Rod asked, "Can I hire other military units like I would a covert operations branch by paying money?"
Avi shook his head. "No, only the covert operations and hunter groups are for hire."
Avia stated crisply, "The Supreme Council has already decided. The Star Town expedition team will not receive any help through normal procedures unless it’s voluntary. No Fire Holder can support you otherwise."
"Voluntary, huh?" Rod pondered, stroking his chin.
Avi answered, "Yes."
Rod suddenly revealed a smile.
"Very well, let them volunteer then."
Avi said, "There are many eyes watching us in the Royal City. Do not break the rules, or it will make things even worse."
Rod smiled and said, "It seems they are quite wary of me."
Avi bent his head and said, "The King’s new bill will cause great losses to certain people and will also allow Trolian to re-enter an expansion phase, which many people do not want to see."
Rod smiled and said, "But unfortunately, they cannot stop the iron hooves of my advance. When I lift up the bag of money, how many people will not want to come to Star Town for a grand adventure?"
In that instant, Avi understood Rod’s intention and bowed as he spoke.
"Lord Rod, if you trust me, I can do this for you. I will openly promote your deeds on suitable occasions, whether for ideals or for money. Many people will gather in Star Town to forge a new glory for humanity."
Rod was silent for a few seconds, focusing his mind. In his mind, he asked, "Book, is this person reliable?"
The outline of a dream emerged in his mind, and the Book of Knowledge lay open on the ground, each word on its pages permeating a sense of helplessness.
"Such non-knowledge-based questions consume a lot of my spirituality. I can only obtain a subjective answer through vague feedback, based on his own abilities and my subjective judgment. It does not represent a definite future."
"Hurry up, stop the nonsense."
The Book of Knowledge, displeased, fluttered its pages and wrote, "This person is very capable; his subjective intention is to help you—perhaps he will succeed."
Rod immediately revealed a smile and firmly clasped his hands.
"My boundless wisdom has foreseen your successful future. Go on, Avi, but remember, everything here is cash on delivery."
Avi’s handsome face remained expressionless; he nodded and said, "Understood," then turned and left.
Rod watched his upright figure and displayed a satisfied smile.
"Molly, I remember there are no restrictions for non-Fire Holders."
Molly nodded slightly.
"I’ve calculated that extracting the minerals from Star Town and its surroundings will need about six hundred thousand miners. Isn’t the Royal City overcrowded? Isn’t it the same for every settlement in Trolian? It’s perfect to relieve them a bit of the pressure; let’s start by recruiting three hundred thousand people."
Molly’s expression flickered briefly, but Avi on the side was so shocked she was tongue-tied.
"Lord Rod, aren’t we yet to occupy Star Town?"
Rod smiled and said, "We will occupy it soon."
Avi looked helplessly towards Molly, having never encountered such a situation. Lord Jon had never done this.
Molly pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses and said seriously, "Lord Rod, I must remind you, Star Town is spindle-shaped. The more we push forward, the larger its cross-section becomes, and the more numerous and stronger the monsters we encounter will be."
Avi also spoke softly, "Moreover, the further from the Underground City, the longer the supply line, and our battles will face more adverse conditions. The workforce Avi recruits will not arrive so soon either. It would be better to start recruiting workers after we’ve occupied Star Town."
Rod smiled and said, "That would be too slow and would slow down my progress. Don’t worry; I still have a secret weapon."
The two women said nothing.
Rod hinted, "Molly, you still remember the big cannon I brought out last time, right?"
Molly’s eyes sparkled, and from her pretty red lips, she uttered two words: "Lord Theodore?"
Rod scratched his head and immediately replied, "Exactly, Lord Theodore had already foreseen all of this; he left me with one final Soul Ripple which can easily solve our problems."
Molly nodded and said, "Avi, help me get the documents."
"Today’s work might get a bit busy."
