The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 327 - 230 Savior
Chapter 327: Chapter 230 Savior
Within Star City.
An ancient church stood alone amidst a swath of ruins and broken walls.
The Star badge at the pinnacle of the church signified that it had been in existence for at least a thousand five hundred years.
Molly walked out of the church with a hint of loss.
As expected, the two Commanders had not agreed to her request for assistance, politely declining on the grounds that deploying personnel required the approval of the supreme military council.
They only agreed to provide some material aid.
But that was of little help to their upcoming actions.
Perhaps... they could only rely on him.
But could he succeed?
Molly gently shook her head, dispelling the unrealistic fantasy.
Why would I think such a thing?
Molly, you should not become so vulnerable, should not replace reality with fantasy.
You should be strong, composed, and always confront reality with rationale, just as your father had said.
The look of defeat once again evaporated from her face, and she returned to that stern, sophisticated, and sharp senior coordinator she was.
But the next moment, she saw Rod, exuberant, leaping down from the carriage with a big jump.
His flaring cloak revealed that the fellow hadn’t worn underwear.
Rod sprinted over, shouting, "Let’s depart! Molly, we’re departing soon! If we’re late, maybe more monsters will come."
Molly took a half step back, maintaining her distance from Rod, and asked in a calm and professional tone,
"Commander, please be precise in your choice of words, as vague language can lead to ambiguity and thus cause misunderstandings, resulting in tragedies."
Rod choked for a moment, cleared his thoughts slightly, and said, "The monster nest to the east of Star Town has been cleared by me... the Underground City is actually a huge pit, and it’s extremely well-suited to serve as our base for occupying Star Town. There are no longer any monsters inside, and we need to hurry and take control of it before other monsters arrive."
Molly felt something strike her heart, and a gap appeared in her rationality, with unbelievable joy surging through it.
"Really... is that true?"
She asked a pointless question, something she usually despised.
"Of course, it’s true,"
Rod said with a smile, grabbing her hand.
"There isn’t much time, get on quickly."
Raising his voice,
"O’Hara, Conrad, everyone, get on board, we’re departing for Star Town immediately."
The captains, vice-captains, and members of the combat cluster responded in unison, "Yes, Commander!"
They didn’t show any hesitation...
That was the only thought in Molly’s mind before Rod pulled her into the carriage.
In just a few seconds, the convoy set off again.
This time, Rod stood expressly on the guide carriage.
The journey from Star City to Star Town was uncharted, still in its primordial Dark State with roaming monsters everywhere.
Rod activated his Eye of the Soul, directing the convoy to avoid all monsters, passing through canyons, forests, swamps, and safely arrived at the abandoned Underground City to the east of Star Town.
Everyone was stunned by the immense size of the great pit.
The bottomless dark abyss, much like the gaping maw of a demon.
But Rod merely glanced at the pit’s edge and smiled with satisfaction, "Not bad, the Void is indeed powerful. Not a single monster was left behind, and even the Abyss’s infectious aura has been sucked away... But the rocks, the soil, and other inanimate objects remain untouched. Hmm, some items with spirituality are also unaffected. Does the Void only devour things with a soul?"
As he pondered, Vice Captain Conrad and some team members confirmed that there were no monsters beneath the huge pit, and cheers erupted spontaneously.
Everyone was beaming with joy. How could one not be pleased with such a perfect first step in the expedition?
Molly looked at Rod with complex eyes and asked quietly, "How did you do that? What is... the Void?"
Rod was about to reply when a sense of foreboding washed over him. He remembered the Dream Realm’s covenant and modified his answer, "This is one of the Ripples left to me by Lord Theodore before his passing."
"Ripple... What is that?"
"Ah, it’s a means to solve problems. As Lord Theodore’s life was drawing to a close, he bestowed his final Soul Ripple upon me and instructed me to use it if I faced any difficulties while venturing into Star Town."
"Indeed, it summoned a strange spatial fluctuation and sent all the monsters away."
"Where to?"
"The Western Paradise... A very distant place, I guess."
Molly wrapped her heart in cold rationality until her blood’s heat and joy subsided before she finally spoke,
"Lord Theodore’s wisdom is truly unbelievable. Now that this monster den has been cleared, we have two very safe pathways to connect to Star City. With some minor clearing, we can open them up, and the resources and materials from Royal City can be transported here continuously."
"Underground City is also a natural stronghold, but we must be careful of residual pollution and corruption. Cleaning and purification are necessary."
Rod smiled, "Let’s start now."
Molly nodded and began to exert her expertise as a competent officer.
Establishing human strongholds was an instinct branded in her blood; she had been involved in dozens of such missions before.
And the Conquest Legion, one of the great Trolian legions, was indeed the main force in the campaign against the Dark World.
All human expansion efforts bore its imprint.
This combat cluster was exactly a group of Conquerors drawn from the Conquest Legion.
How to establish new territories within the Dark World was an essential lesson for everyone.
Under Molly’s efficient command, everyone sprang into action quickly.
Their wagons huddled together; the Spiritual Horses were stowed away; they set up sentries and then entered the Underground City from multiple directions to begin their search.
The group soon uncovered that this was a miraculously constructed human creation.
It had a radius of 2000 steps and a height that reached 1800 steps, with innumerable rooms and corridors stretching from the top of the pit all the way to the bottom.
If brought to the surface, this would be a hollow cylindrical structure with well over a hundred floors.
Most astonishing was the fact that the entire structure was fortified with Spiritual Energy.
Despite the Abyss Monsters having lingered here for so long, the main body of the structure had suffered minimal damage.
This was more than just a stronghold; it was naturally a super Sanctuary, a haven for humanity.
The warriors were overjoyed, believing this to be a miracle brought forth by the Commander. The two Captains were so excited they nearly lost their way, while only Molly retained her composure, arranging tasks with clear priorities.
But in her heart, she had unwittingly come to see Rod as the true Savior.
After all, the supremely wise and perceptive Lord Theodore had chosen him.
If Lord Theodore could foresee events so far off, then he must have also predicted that only Rod could bring them miracles and hope.
Otherwise, why not choose another rising star?
As she learned more about the myriad advantages of this massive pit, the notion had taken root deep within her, becoming one of the pillars of her faith.
