The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 305 - 218 Goddess

Chapter 305: Chapter 218 Goddess

The dragon-hunting mission was successfully completed.

Only one hunter was seriously injured, and he was immediately sent to the Church Medical Center, where several core medics rushed to treat his injuries and purify the corruption in his soul.

His condition soon stabilized, with a good prognosis.

The others only had minor injuries, which were quickly dealt with.

The only concern was the dense black fog at the bottom of the sewer; the demon dragon’s corruption was strong, and everyone was eroded to varying degrees.

Fortunately, it hadn’t been long enough to invade the core of the soul.

And when the soul priests were clearing the corruption, they unexpectedly discovered that Rod’s soul was absolutely pure, without a single trace of darkening.

This was a very rare occurrence.

Human beings born in this dark world cannot avoid contact with black fog entirely; everyone’s soul bears traces of corruption and darkening to some extent.

"This is strange, your soul structure is very perfect, as pure as a virgin, as if you were born in a world full of sunlight, without any distortion, corruption, or aberration," the soul priest exclaimed sincerely.

"And, you are still in that world."

Rod asked with slight unease, "Is that a problem?"

"A problem?" the soul priest asked in surprise. "How could it be a problem? It’s a miracle, a blessing of fire!"

The surrounding hunters all uttered exclamations of amazement.

Atos laughed, "Deserving of our rising star, even your soul is different from the rest."

Hunter Group Leader Jahan was also smiling broadly.

The corrupted demon dragon was successfully eliminated, reducing the threat of the sewers once again.

Someday, humans will have complete control over the Royal City.

The Hunter Group would also be commended by the Royal City for this, and this year they might even obtain more resources from the Supreme Council.

"I apologize, Mr. Rod, for previously mistaking you for someone who bullies others because of his status. I never imagined you would actually be our new star."

Jahan stroked his bald head.

"To express my apology, I’ve decided to grant you the title of an old hunter. Together with the rewards for the demon dragon mission, your Hunter Honor Medal count has now exceeded a thousand."

"Now, you can schedule an appointment with Master Lei Lu to forge a soul weapon for you."

Rod asked, "Who is Master Lei Lu?"

Jahan proudly said, "The best soul forging master in the Royal City. He used to be a hunter as well, so he gives preferential treatment to hunters who have their weapons forged at his place."

Atos reminded, "But you need to provide your own materials. It’s a rare opportunity, so you must prepare the best materials to forge a unique soul weapon."

Rod had never encountered a soul weapon before, so Atos gave him a brief introduction.

Weapons are graded by their rarity.

In ancient times, people believed the more precious something was, the rarer it would be. Although modern research doesn’t fully agree with this view, to honor the achievements of ancient scholars and avoid confusion in practice, the Royal City still uses this standard.

The levels, from lowest to highest, are as follows: Flood (Trash), Abundant, Common, Rare, Extremely Rare, Unique.

A Unique soul weapon is the most perfect weapon, possessing high spirituality and very suited to its owner. It can compensate for the owner’s shortcomings or strengthen their advantages, or match the owner’s characteristics, taking the owner’s actual combat ability to new heights.

But the difficulty of making it is also very high, requiring a large amount of precious materials and the meticulous work of a top-notch master, plus a certain chance of success.

Although they are not truly unique, they are few and far between in the Royal City.

"You can schedule an appointment now. Master Lei Lu is very busy, and it usually takes a while before it’s your turn."

After giving it some thought, Rod remembered that in addition to his Hunter Honor Medals, he also had Royal City Honor Medals.

The King had once reminded him that he could use them to exchange for materials.

"Alright," Rod agreed. "Make the appointment now, please."

And so, it was settled.

It was another joyful day, and everyone was happy.

Except for Ato.

After the tavern incident, Rod’s true identity was exposed, although he hadn’t really concealed it much.

But for Ato, this was a severe shock.

The big brother she looked up to turned out to be three years younger than her. The dream of living happily together with her big brother shattered, and many carefully conceived unspeakable scenarios became unacceptable.

However, Rod consoled her, saying that although he appeared to be a primary school student (sixteen years old), he carried the soul of a big brother inside. The physical appearance of a person is but fleeting morning mist, while the core is a blossoming flower.

As long as he is a big brother in his heart, he will always be a big brother.

With that said, Ato turned her worries into joy once again.

Meanwhile, Rod seized the opportunity to inquire about some news regarding Mephit from her.

Regrettably, there was nothing particularly useful, only that she favored drinking marigold plum wine.

Seeing Ato again getting caught up in inviting him to visit her house to see the lily that weeps water, Rod excused himself and returned to his secret base to continue his training mission.

The harvest from this outing far exceeded his expectations; 330,000 souls were enough for him to elevate his "Divine Sense" by one level.

He also had an appointment with the weapons master, and Rod resolved to forge a weapon that had nothing to do with the sewer or the rice bucket.

The only downside was that he owed a large amount of Spiritual Energy to the Void again and had to live on debt, using "Awakening" prolifically.

"The Resurrection Stone must be expedited; otherwise, when the debt matures, I’m done for."

Even though the Medicine Woman was nowhere to be seen, Rod wasn’t worried, but it was a shame that the Divinity he had obtained had not lasted two days before he was about to run out of it.

Before sleeping, he made a point to learn about the social etiquette of the upper circles of the Royal City from a noble young lady like Kashan.

----

The next day.

Rod woke up early, tidied himself carefully, put on a set of exquisite clothes, left the base, boarded a carriage, and arrived at 17 Thorn Street.

It was a bustling street, and today being Fire Day, the street was crowded with people. Shops on both sides were busy with people coming and going, with a din of shouting and hawking echoing continuously.

Rod followed the house number and turned from the bustling street into a gloomy alley, where he found the doorplate of Thorns Street No. 17 in front of an old attic.

Rod coughed and knocked on the door.

"Is Mephit there? It’s Rod."

Crisp footsteps sounded from within, and after a few seconds, the somewhat antiquated mahogany door creaked open.

Mephit was inside.

Today, she had clearly dressed up, wearing a snow-white gown that resembled a blooming flower, which set off her silver hair and silver eyes.

Slivers of sunlight refracted through the gaps of the alley and shined upon her stunning profile, her long crystal pendant swayed gently beside her delicate cheek, casting thousands of radiant glimmers as if she were a goddess.

In this grey and old environment, only she was dazzling, like a white bloom flourishing amidst decay.

Rod was momentarily spellbound, but thankfully remembered his lessons from the day before and took a step forward, bowing elegantly.

"Miss Mephit, it is an honor to meet you. Your beauty is as dazzling as the sun and as graceful as the moon," he said.

Since Mephit made no move, Rod gently took her slender hand and kissed the back of it.

A cool sensation spread from his lips, her skin white as jade.

Mephit watched his actions, the sunlight reflecting off her silvery eyes with an indifferent glint as she softly said, "Come in."

She turned and walked inside, and Rod quickly closed the door and followed her.

The lighting inside the house was dim, proving that her Spirit Lamp was faint, the interior space was cramped, the arrangement simple, and the furniture outdated, indicating that she was living frugally.

This wasn’t normal.

Rod pondered this as he racked his brains for a topic of conversation.

But Mephit did not respond, walking straight to the far end of the attic into her bedroom.

The room was even more crude and narrow, with only a bed draped in grey curtains, an old wardrobe, and a table.

In a soft voice, Mephit asked, "Did you bring the Puppet Wood?"

"Yes, no, I didn’t bring it. What do I need that thing for?" he replied.

Mephit took out a piece of Puppet Wood from the table and handed it to him.

"Use it on me," she said.

Rod frowned slightly.

The reason Puppet Wood was banned was that it could control a person’s spirit, making people obedient as puppets. Some lawbreakers used it for evil deeds, leading to strict regulation by the Royal City.

But seeing the look in Mephit’s eyes, he took the Puppet Wood, pointed it at her, and channeled Spiritual Energy into it.

Invisible threads of spirit rose from the Puppet Wood, reaching out towards her.

Mephit did not raise her Spiritual Energy and gave up all resistance.

However, when the spirit threads touched her spirit, instead of controlling her, they recoiled back, attempting to control him through the Puppet Wood.

But Rod was guarded by his humanity; all forms of soul corruption, erosion, control, and allure would not affect him.

With a clang, the spirit threads broke, and the Puppet Wood in his hand turned to dust.

In a quiet voice, Mephit said, "Disappointed? I am immune to spirit control."

Rod patted the dust off his hands and said with a smile, "Why would I be? Isn’t this a good thing?"

Mephit looked at him indifferently and said softly, "I can feel loss and regret in your emotions."

"Five hundred silver coins a piece, wouldn’t you be glad to give it to me?"

"I have something more important to give you," said Mephit flatly.

She stepped back a few paces and stood by the bed.

"I am grateful for what you did yesterday, and I know you helped me because of my appearance..."

Rod coughed and said, "I must reiterate, I wished for you to become my companion because our abilities are a very good match."

"That’s what they all say," Mephit replied softly.

"But I am different."

Mephit suddenly laughed, her silver hair and eyes gleaming in the faint light.

She turned on the spot and her billowing skirt bloomed like a white flower.

"Am I beautiful?" she asked.

"No one is more beautiful than you," he replied.

"Is my figure good?"

"Delicately curved, graceful at many times, vibrantly attractive, truly desirable."

"Do you want to sleep with me?"

Before Rod had time to think of an answer, Mephit had already placed her hand on her collar and gently removed the necklace hidden beneath her clothes.

"Take a good look at my true nature first," she said.

The next instant, silver starlight fell like mist, obscuring her figure.

When the star mist cleared, the stunning goddess had turned into a hag-like old crone, with sagging eyes, a gaping mouth, and a face full of wrinkles like dead branches.

Her silver hair turned to patchy grass, her silvery eyes to cloudy orbs, and the stark contrast between her white gown and withered body created a massive disparity. Her pretty hair ornaments and delicate crystal pendant reflected her ghastly appearance, making one feel sick.

This ugly old crone was none other than the vanished Medicine Woman.

With a demonic smile, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Do you want to sleep with me now?"

The shock of this scene was enough to drive any normal person mad.

But Rod simply showed a smile.

He bowed elegantly again, took her claw-like right hand, and kissed the wrinkled back of her hand.

"If you are willing, I agree," he said.

A deathly silence enveloped the cramped bedroom.
