Chapter 281: Chapter 201Expectation
Although he didn’t understand their meaning, the shocking sensation still hit him squarely.
Tomman felt the intangible momentum contained within and swallowed back his sarcastic remark, unable to help but ask, "What do you mean by that?"
Rod smiled and simply replaced the story behind those two sentences with context they could understand.
Unexpectedly, he ended up gaining two "Flowers of Humanity."
Could that actually work?
"Flowers of Humanity" are very precious materials, generally difficult to obtain.
I just casually spoke, and it moved someone?
But Tomman refused to acknowledge it.
"Pfft, stop trying to fool children with made-up stories."
"I don’t believe any of it."
"I’m just here for the money, you don’t need to get me all fired up."
Rod smiled and said no more.
Demetri used more objective language to explain the Black Tide and the significance of this mission to Rod.
Through his narration, Rod finally understood everything.
Just like Tomman had explained, the Black Tide in the Dark World was like a giant wave on a dark sea, and the Trolian Kingdom was only affected by its peripheral ripples.
The cause of the Black Tide was unknown; researching it had always been one of the Trolian Kingdom’s key projects.
The prevailing theories were divided into "Monster Force Change Theory," "Spirit Realm Variation Theory," "Migration Theory," and "Civil War Theory."
But regardless of which theory, all acknowledged that Trolian was blessed with a terrain that shielded it from directly facing the Black Tide.
However, this time, the situation had changed.
A segment of the Black Tide’s vanguard had, for some unknown reason, turned back and surged towards Trolian, hidden in the corner of the Dead Ash Mountain Range.
The Investigation Legion and the White Tower both issued the highest level of warning to the Royal City.
The Royal City immediately gathered Commander Liszt of the Investigation Legion, Meredith, the Master of White Tower, the Great Prophet Iyeta, and Dean Theodore to discuss countermeasures.
Through investigation, prophecy, star gazing, and probing into the Spirit Realm among other actions, they confirmed that detonating a sufficient amount of Corrosive Material at a specific time and place could trigger a regional chain reaction, diverting part of the Black Tide vanguard heading towards Trolian.
And thus, the plan was set.
The last person in the original team was supposed to be Theodore’s spellbound guard, but Rod somehow replaced him for unknown reasons.
The plan was also delayed, making the timing seem so tight.
"However,"
Demetri said,
"Our mission is going much smoother than expected, with two nodes located on either side of the Eternal Sealed Land; we still have four hours left, plenty of time to complete the task."
Tomman snorted coldly, "Don’t get your hopes too high; we’re bound to encounter surprises."
No one responded.
For some reason, his remark wasn’t particularly offensive.
Soon, the three of them crossed the Eternal Sealed Land and arrived at the first node.
It was a huge depression filled with broken holes.
Demetri rang the Silence Bell again to cover up the fluctuations of the Spiritual Power Wave caused by Tomman using his characteristic.
Tomman sat down cross-legged, hands pressed to the ground, as intense Spiritual Power Waves radiated from him.
The air began to warp, and a moment later, accompanied by a tremendous explosion, a metal cylinder at least as tall as a five-story building landed in front of Tomman.
The scene was staggering, and Rod looked up at the metal cylinder.
This Tomman indeed had some real skills.
But at that moment, he looked exhausted, as if moving such a large object was extremely difficult for him.
Demetri attempted to carry him but was rejected.
"I can walk."
Tomman staggered to his feet, only to fall to the ground again.
Demetri quickly picked him up and ran out.
"Don’t we have to open it?" Rod asked.
"No need,"
Demetri said calmly, "The metal can’t block the influence of so much Corrosive Material, the monsters will soon tear it apart."
Tomman cursed, "Stop talking nonsense and run!"
The Black Fog began to roll ominously.
Distant low howls could be heard, an uneasy feeling floating in the air.
Demetri grabbed Rod and soared into the sky towards the second node.
For some reason, the Black Fog in this region had thinned out, greatly extending Rod’s line of sight.
He looked back, and in the unfathomable darkness afar, a deeper darkness surged towards them, like a tsunami looming in the ocean depths.
Suddenly, Demetri plummeted down.
A massive shadow swept over their heads moving so quickly that Rod had no chance to anticipate it.
Then more shadows streaked by, all heading towards the first node at high speed.
Demetri swiftly landed on the edge of the Eternal Sealed Land and chose to travel on foot.
But the ground was restless too, the wandering monsters becoming active and aggressive.
Demetri’s Invisibility was dispelled by some unknown influence, forcing him to cast it repeatedly until a Acid Liquid monster noticed.
It was a battle that could be called catastrophic.
The Acid Liquid monster’s surprise attack prevented Demetri from using the Silence Bell, and they attempted to flee directly, but the disturbance drew even more Acid Liquid monsters and a bird creature that descended from the sky.
They moved swiftly, and no matter how Rod and Demetri ran, they could not shake them off.
"We split up."
Demetri spoke tersely, tossed Tomman and the Star Disk onto Rod, and ran in another direction.
He repeatedly triggered his Fire Spark ability, his Invisibility flickering on and off his form, flashing continuously to draw a multitude of monsters after him.
