The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 265 - 187: Guidance
Chapter 265: Chapter 187: Guidance
Abnormal Demons are a general term for a type of Abyss Monster, Rod had previously killed the Demon of the Abyss and the Black Serpent which both belong to this category.
But he had only killed seven in total, all of which were rare Abnormal Demons that escaped and hid deep underground after a rift shattered.
Now, he saw hundreds of Abnormal Demons.
The battle instantly escalated to its most intense state, Jon flew into the sky, becoming a burning sun, his powerful firepower illuminating the entire City of Laisuo.
Qingyu transformed into a long fire dragon, galloping among the horde of monsters.
The five Guardians held the front line, the skills of the superior Knights and Oath Knights followed in slaughter.
The battle Priests abandoned light, lifting weapons condensed with bright white light, and also entered the throng of monsters.
Rod kept using various enhancement and healing spells.
He distinctly felt his instincts fading, a major characteristic being the rapid increase in the consumption of Spiritual Energy, after casting a round of spells, he had to use "Awakening".
This was the third time using "Awakening", Rod no longer thought about the aftereffects, he determined to fight with all his might until the end, which was the most important thing right now.
The only regret was that the Dean did not use wide-range lethal spells, so he did not harvest many souls.
However, from Byron Old City all the way here, the overall gains were still quite substantial.
These random thoughts flashed through Rod’s mind, which was also evidence of his fading instincts.
Previously, unless he deliberately thought about it, these thoughts wouldn’t have surfaced in his mind at all, everything would simply proceed according to the Dean’s instincts.
Undoubtedly, the Dean’s time was running out, at least before he vanished, should he not retake the City of Laisuo?
Rod pondered, using "Awakening" for the fourth time.
The consumption of Spiritual Energy for the spells quickened, Rod soon realized that it wasn’t just due to fading instincts, his robe and magic wand also showed signs of disintegration.
This was Master Theodore’s Spiritual equipment, providing the bulk of the Spiritual Energy needed for the spells, Rod only provided that bit of initiating power.
Long-term use without replenishment was also wearing them thin.
The battle still seemed endless, even though this nearly strongest elite fighting group had thoroughly cleared the city of Dark Monsters, more Abyss Monsters continuously surged from outside the city, and the numbers were increasing, almost without end in sight.
At this point, retreat was no longer possible, otherwise all their earlier efforts would be lost, and reclaiming the City of Laisuo might become impossible.
Just then, another wave of the black tide arrived.
During the continuation of the black tide, monsters flowed wave after wave from the dark depths, each wave posed a tremendous test on the human defenses.
The main threat of this round of the black tide was Sigles’s Corrupted Serpentmen.
They were not of high ranking, but their numbers were vast, almost endless as they blanketed the sky.
The battle continued for a clock hour, and instead of decreasing, the number of monsters had increased.
Everyone’s consumption of Spiritual Energy was immense, the elite fighting group had to temporarily contract their battle lines, switching to a defensive state.
Jon was forced to revert from his giant Fireball state and descended to the ground.
Qingyu took his place, becoming the new massive Fireball, maintaining the domain of fire.
Being endowed with the "Eternal Burning Fire" characteristic, they were naturally the core of the team; transforming into fire was part of their ability.
Defense Chief Dalin specifically formed a dual-core structure aimed for assured victory.
But currently, the situation did not look particularly good.
Jon said in a somber voice, "The Abyss Rift that housed the great serpent is nearby, our battle has once again disturbed the rift, it has connected with the Abyss and released all the monsters from within."
Guardian Lily nodded, "Lord Jon is right, the primary threat now is still the Abnormal Demons, if not for them, no matter how numerous the Serpentmen are, they would not pose a threat."
"But how do we find the Abyss Rift?" asked a superior Knight.
"Even if we found it, it wouldn’t be feasible, we must clear the monsters," said a battle Priest. "We need to lower the threat to an acceptable level, otherwise, we can’t possibly enter the Abyss Rift."
Everyone fell silent for a moment, silently nibbling on Soul Red Crystals to restore Spiritual Energy.
Rod also nibbled a few, but the recovery effect was negligible for him as he fundamentally wasn’t a Fire Holder.
Suddenly, an Oath Knight wielding a long spear said, "Abnormal Demons are aided by the Dark Spirit Light, there must be a child of evil nearby, if we can kill it, the pressure would be greatly reduced."
Jon said calmly, "The problem is, where is the child of the demon?"
"I might have a way to find it," said the Oath Knight. "I once learned a special technique for searching enemies under the old Sword Saint."
Jon frowned, "How come I haven’t heard about it? These masters should have been part of the Royal City system long ago, keeping them brings no benefits to the King."
"How do we use it?" Guardian Lily bypassed Jon’s words and asked directly.
"I just need to go out and fight," he replied.
"Just like that?"
The Oath Knight answered calmly, "Then get killed, and my blood will point to the location of all the culprits."
Everyone was shocked, and Lily exclaimed, "How can this be acceptable?"
Jon’s expression darkened.
"Is there another way?" Rod asked.
"There might be, but I don’t know it."
"What should we do?" Lily looked towards Jon.
After a moment of silence, Jon asked, "How reliable is this method?"
The Oath Knight shook his head, "I don’t know, I’ve never used it."
"Then let’s not use it. I have already sent a request for reinforcements to the highest Military War Department. When the new reinforcements arrive, everything will start to get better," said Jon.
"Alright," replied the Oath Knight briefly.
Unable to hold back, Rod asked, "Aren’t you supposed to be more ruthless than the monsters?"
Jon glanced at him expressionlessly, "But that doesn’t mean I will waste our fighting strength. Sacrifices without value are meaningless; that’s idiotic."
He rose and soared into the sky, becoming the burning sun once again, taking Qingyu’s place.
Meanwhile, Rod used "Awakening" for the sixth time and launched a wide-area spell enhancement again.
More Serpentmen mingled with Abnormal Demons surged forward, and the second round of fierce battle began.
Soon, the first casualty occurred— the Oath Knight had ventured too deep and was impaled through the heart by an Abnormal Demon. The corruption and infection spread, distorting his body.
He was already dead.
But the black blood rose into the air and flew towards the distance, pointing to another culprit who had killed him.
No one spoke; a Hunting Squad was silently and quickly formed, chasing in the direction of the blood.
The squad consisted of only three people: Guardian Lily, Senior Knight Soron, and Rod.
Initially, Rod didn’t understand why he was included, but after instinctively using Invisibility on the group, he understood.
Without a Spell Master, they would never have managed to pass through so many monsters to assassinate a leader-level monster.
At that moment, outside Laisuo City, everything was swarming with Abnormal Demons and Serpentmen, making it impossible to see the end from mid-air.
The blood meandered through the air, flying over a thousand yards before it finally came down, striking a small-statured Abnormal Demon.
Rod immediately noticed its difference; this Abnormal Demon had a faint dark ripple on its soul ripple, fluctuating very strangely.
It suddenly raised its head, seemingly seeing the invisible trio, and then plunged into the crowd of monsters.
"Trying to run!"
Lily shouted loudly, raising both hands as a huge spinning fireball appeared in her grasp.
"Chaos Fireball! I want it seventy percent done."
She threw the fireball down fiercely.
Boom!
The blaze engulfed the darkness.
