The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 206 - 150: Resurrection Stone
Chapter 206: Chapter 150: Resurrection Stone
For some reason, Royal City was unusually crowded today, with every household’s lights shining brightly. There was a constant stream of people and active vendors everywhere, and the laughter of children never ceased.
It wasn’t until Rod reached the Grey Street that the crowd gradually thinned out.
Grey Street was a very narrow and gloomy street, with the occasional passerby hurrying on their way.
Most of the buildings along the street were shops, dim and disordered, even the lanterns hanging in front of the doors were dim and dirty, covered with filth.
There were hardly any residential houses.
Rod glanced around and saw a tangled mess of limbs in a cabinet not far away. Across from that, numerous glass jars containing eyeballs, tongues, brains, and other organs lined the storefront. In a sinister doorway, a witch-like figure was brewing something as revolting as shit.
What kind of hellish place was this?
Rod felt a chill down his spine but also a surge of hope.
—How could a nefarious thing like the Resurrection Stone not be made in a place like this?
Following the house numbers, Rod arrived at Grey Street number 17.
It was a somber stone house with a narrow courtyard, and the stone doors were firmly closed.
Rod knocked on the red brick next to the door, just as Ado had instructed.
Knock, knock, knock, bang, bang.
Three heavy, two light.
A few minutes later, a hoarse and murky voice came from inside.
"Who is it?"
"A Hunter, referred by Ado."
After a moment’s silence, the stone door opened.
"Come in."
Rod stepped inside and saw a courtyard full of dust and debris.
A crone with arching eyebrows, a gaping mouth, a face full of wrinkles, and looking like a ghastly demon stood in front of the stone house and said indifferently, "Come into the house."
She turned and entered the stone house, her figure swallowed by the dark doorway.
Rod hesitated briefly but followed her in.
Ado wouldn’t harm people, and Doomsday believers wouldn’t place their base in such an obvious location.
The inside of the stone house was very gloomy and cramped, with various items piled up to the ceiling. The air was filled with a pungent and spicy odor, which was extremely unpleasant.
Rod followed the crone to the back of the house.
It seemed to be the place where she concocted potions or items, slightly more spacious as the debris had been cleared away, featuring a large pot, a dissecting table stained with blood, and a stone crafting table.
The crone turned around, her cloudy eyes fixed on him, silent.
Rod found it odd.
Despite her aged and extremely ugly appearance, she didn’t have that deathly aura of decay about her.
An ice-cold and indifferent atmosphere emanated from her, pushing people far away.
He spoke politely, "You must be the Medicine Woman, right? I came to ask for your help in crafting a few items with spirituality."
The Medicine Woman replied coldly, "My services are very expensive."
Rod’s heart leaped with joy at her words; the fact that she didn’t inquire about the details but mentioned her high price meant that she was very confident in her abilities, no ordinary person.
"I would like to have a Resurrection Stone crafted."
The Medicine Woman fell silent, not responding, but she started to walk through the clutter in the stone house, looking for something.
Rod waited patiently. The stone house was actually quite large; it only appeared cramped because of the clutter. Everywhere were cabinets, bookshelves, and storage closets reaching up to the ceiling, or piles of debris forming little hills.
A moment later, the Medicine Woman returned, holding a heart, a shriveled spider, and a clump of mud-like substance in her hand.
"Ten thousand silver coins," she stated.
It was a bit pricey, but for Rod at the moment, it was completely acceptable.
"Hold on," he said as he tucked his hands into his sleeves and directly entered the Dream Realm. He counted ten large denomination silver notes and brought them out.
"This is the money."
Rod spread out the silver notes one by one.
"I hope it will be satisfying. If you dare to deceive me, hmm, do you know what kind of person the Inspector Lauren of the Internal Affairs Court is to me?"
This was Rod’s experience when dealing with the grey industry—talk money in one hand and keep the threat of force in the other.
The Medicine Woman disregarded his threat and turned to begin her work at the crafting table.
"One clock hour," she said coldly, quickly slicing the heart into thin pieces, and started to stew the spider.
Rod didn’t make a sound to interrupt, waiting with great anticipation.
Indeed, the Medicine Woman lived up to her image, and an hour later, she handed a stone covered in bloody traces to Rod.
Rod received the stone and brought it straight into the Dream Realm, placing it on the stone platform.
The words "Resurrection Stone" lit up below the [Resurrection Stone] inscription.
There was no issue.
Exhilaration swept through him instantly, and Rod immediately returned to the material world, handed over the money, and smiled, "Not bad, good quality. I hope we can work together again next time."
The Medicine Woman watched him. In her eyes, the man simply held the stone, closed his eyes, and then suddenly after a few seconds, opened them and handed over the money.
She silently pocketed the money.
But Rod was not in a rush to leave just yet.
He excitedly scanned the room and asked, "Do you have any living flesh?"
The Medicine Woman somberly answered, "That’s a spiritual material. It requires flesh from someone with undead characteristics. I don’t have any."
Rod nodded; in fact, he already had a method to obtain it and had only asked in case it could save him some trouble. It was no big deal.
He then inquired, "Do you have any Puppet Wood?"
Puppet Wood was the main material used to make Wood Puppets, and the puppets had proven quite useful back at Sword Pass.
The Medicine Woman coldly glanced at him.
"I don’t craft that."
Rod, surprised, asked, "Why not?"
"It’s not for hunting monsters."
Rod suddenly remembered that Puppet Wood could be used for things like casting spells, and that last crooked merchant thought he wanted to use it to take advantage of women.
