Chapter 121: Chapter 89: The Second Invasion_2
Yes, the dream realm had edges, like a red membrane resembling the inner wall of a blood vessel.
That red shadow was like fresh blood seeping through from within the vessel walls.
The shadow quickly solidified, filled with a dark-red glow as if infused with fresh blood, forming a tall humanoid shape whose details and facial features were obscured by diffused red light, only the massive hook on its back visible.
Its spiritual energy was an unusual dark red color, completely masking the color and waveform of the soul.
In the Eye of the Soul, several lines of text appeared.
Hunt Red Spirit Tuge
Category: Nightmare
Threat: Certain death
Soul Trait: Hunting
Danger: Real vision, able to discern all deception and illusion.
—
The moment it appeared, Rod threw out the soul ashes.
The clump that emitted a faint glow burst in mid-air, scattering fine dust everywhere as a massive spiritual body of a Mutated Demon Spider materialized.
Bits of black silk tumbled within the spiritual body of the spider, its compound eyes emitting a terrifying red light. The instant it touched the ground, it charged toward the closest Red Spirit Hunter.
Rod simultaneously raised his gun, then in just one second, the energy charge completed, and the Sealing Spirit Bullet shot out, hitting the Red Spirit.
Bang!
The bullet turned to powder upon impact, yet the Red Spirit remained unharmed, its spiritual energy uninterrupted, not even for half a second.
The shot seemed to have awakened it.
The Red Spirit removed the massive hook from its back and, with lightning speed, it pierced the charging Mutated Demon Spider.
A flash of red light from the hook, and the spider was instantly torn to pieces.
In less than a second, a Mature-Level monster was killed.
By that time, Rod hadn’t even fully charged his second Spirit Gun shot.
The Red Spirit rushed toward him, its incredibly high speed creating a long red streak through the air.
Rod knew he was in trouble, managing only to crush the "Guardian of Darkness" before the hook pierced his chest.
Darkness filled his vision, and intense pain shot through his soul. Rod screamed and sat up straight in bed, his head aching as if it were about to split open.
He had been thrown back into the material world!
But fortunately, Rod remembered the previous experience and kept the Poison Violet Juice in his mouth; he bit down hard, and the bitter sour taste quickly spread in his mouth.
The severe pain lessened amidst the sourness, and his soul recovered from the acidity. Rod leaned on the table with both hands, gasping for breath.
It took a good while before his thoughts returned.
How could this be?
Rod could hardly believe it. Even though he had prepared so thoroughly, it ended just like last time—he was killed on sight.
The only difference was that he managed to crush the "Guardian of Darkness" just before his death, which protected the Obelisk from damage.
Otherwise, the still-cracked Obelisk could have been destroyed.
What should he do?
Rod calmed down slightly, turned his head and felt a not-so-severe pain in his brain.
It was rhythmic, clearly the Red Spirit’s attack.
"Guardian of Darkness" should last for a while.
Perhaps he could take the opportunity to gather all his summoned creatures and sneak attack from behind, just like last time.
Rod made a lightning symbol with his hands.
His vision swirled, and he was back in the dream realm, standing in the same spot.
In the distance, the Red Spirit was fiercely attacking the Obelisk.
A dark-colored shell protected it, but he didn’t know how long it would last.
The bag filled with soul ashes dropped at his feet. Rod picked up the bag, funneled his spiritual energy into it, and threw all of the ashes at the Red Spirit at once.
Nineteen clusters of ashes exploded mid-air, and four Mutated Demon Spiders, one undead hunting hound, and fourteen Face-Hugging Poison Insects materialized from thin air.
The moment they appeared, they didn’t attack the Red Spirit but instead started fighting each other.
This is why Rod didn’t throw all the soul ashes out at the beginning—the creatures were corrupted and would only attack the nearest object.
The hundreds of fine legs of the Mutated Demon Spiders clashed furiously, the undead hunting hound’s claws wildly tore through the swarm of poison insects, and the Face-Hugging Poison Insects leapt up, spraying venom everywhere.
None attacked the Red Spirit.
Damn it!
Can’t you all be a bit smarter?
Rod dismissed the idea of summoning a phantom, quickly circled around the swarm, and shot at the Red Spirit.
The Sealing Spirit Bullet was still ineffective, but it caught its attention.
Rod quickly moved back, trying to hide behind the horde of creatures to lure the Red Spirit over.
But in the next instant, pain erupted in his chest.
The long hook had already pierced out from his chest; the Red Spirit had appeared behind him at some unknown point.
Damn!
Rod had only time to cough out that single expletive before he was slammed back into the Material World.
The pain in his mind was so intense that not even the Poison Violet Juice could mask it anymore, and his vision split as if cracked, his gaze involuntarily wavering, unable to find a focus.
Clearly, the two deaths had dealt a heavy blow to his spirit.
Luckily, Rod was prepared and immediately drank the Spirit Tree Dew, which could calm the mind and restore its abnormal state.
A cool sensation spread through his soul, his mind gradually steadied, and Rod felt a bit better. He quickly pinched the Lightning Symbol and returned to the Dream Realm for the third time.
As soon as he re-entered the Dream Realm, he saw the Red Spirit fighting amidst the horde of monsters. It was extraordinarily fierce, and the creatures he had summoned were being slaughtered like straws in the wind, utterly powerless. In just a short ten seconds or so, nearly half were already dead.
There was no other choice.
Rod blew the whistle, and a tall Phantom appeared before his eyes.
He was dressed in robes, with a long white beard and a gentle, benevolent face, holding a Magic Wand in his hand, looking exactly like Dean Theodore, except not quite real, more like a three-dimensional Shadow.
The Phantom glanced at Rod before surveying the surroundings, its gaze seeming perplexed.
"Attack that red Spiritual Body!"
Rod issued the command.
The Dean’s Shadow nodded slightly, raised the Magic Wand, took a big leap, and brought down a heavy and forceful cleave right on the Red Spirit’s head.
Bang!
That hit was incredibly strong, the Red Spirit fell to the ground on the spot, its Spiritual Energy obviously lagging—this was the first time Rod had seen it take damage!
Dean is formidable indeed!
Rod shouted, "Ignore those monsters and just attack the Red Spirit!"
The Dean’s Shadow nodded slightly again and took a light leap backward, evading a Face-Hugging Poison Insect’s lunge.
The Poison Insect missed and turned to attack the Red Spirit instead.
And the Red Spirit, seemingly lacking any intelligence, would turn to attack whoever was attacking it.
After tearing apart the Poison Insect with a hook, it joined the monster melee once more.
Meanwhile, the Phantom walked slowly around the outer ring, holding the Magic Wand, not in a hurry to attack but waiting for the right moment.
Every time it found an opening, it would leap ferociously, smashing the Red Spirit with a heavy cleave and always managing to jump away before the counterattack.
Incredible!
This Phantom was simply a savior!
Rod felt an immense surge of joy in his heart and hurriedly picked up his Thunder Stone Bag, swallowed the Red Powder, and sent a surge of Spiritual Energy into all the Thunder Stones.
He planned to fill all the Thunder Stones with energy at once and then blast the intruder to death!
However, although Rod was much stronger than before, this clearly exceeded his limits.
The bag contained thirty Thunder Stones and drained his Spiritual Energy in a blink of an eye, and due to his less-than-high Spiritual Power Strength, the charging was inefficient.
At that moment, Rod decisively used "Awakening."
With a thought, the Blue Star instantly illuminated the dark night of his soul.
An endless power seemed to rise in his chest, a mighty Spiritual Energy burst forth, flowing into the thirty Thunder Stones, lighting up the Lightning patterns one by one, and the aura of destruction was so intense that not even the bag restraining them could contain it.
Time ticked away, the monsters were all slain, and the Dean’s Phantom was forced to face the Red Spirit head-on.
Although the Phantom was far more intelligent than the Red Spirit, the huge gap in strength still put it at a disadvantage.
The Red Spirit was extremely fast and capable of Instant Teleportation, attacking swiftly like thunder and lightning.
The Phantom was significantly lacking in all aspects, but by relying on its heavy and powerful smashes, it could always manage to land a hit or two.
Knowing there wasn’t much time, Rod desperately drove his Spiritual Energy, finally lighting up all thirty Thunder Stones.
He had to throw them quickly, or the energy inside the Thunder Stones would fade.
"Can you hold him down?" Rod yelled out.
The Phantom gave no response, and Rod thought it couldn’t understand such a complex command.
Unexpectedly, during the Red Spirit’s next attack, the Phantom suddenly lunged forward, its long hook piercing right through its body.
But the Phantom held on to it firmly.
"Good!"
Rod threw the bag with all his might.
"You’re truly my savior!"
Bang!
The bullet shredded the bag, the Thunder Stones’ restrictors failed, and the thirty Thunder Stones simultaneously emitted a tremendous Thunder Light.
