Chapter 116: Chapter 87 Seventeen Years Old
Returning from the Royal City’s Military War Department, Rod felt invigorated, as if a huge weight had been lifted from his chest. He was just one step away from full liberation.
Quick! A little more effort and he would soon be free in the world!
Rod hurried back to his room at the tavern, locked the door, set the spring needle in place, and with a lightning-fast gesture, he returned to the Dream Realm.
A faint mist flowed before his eyes in the eternally silent Dream Realm.
Twenty Sun Stones lay at his feet.
Good!
With these, he could craft twenty portions of Soul Ashes, yet there was only one invading monster.
Twenty against one, the advantage was enormous.
He was sure to win!
Rod moved the Sun Stones into the cabin, and lit the candles on the stone platform. The inscriptions on the stone slab began to glow.
He placed one of the Sun Stones on it.
"Sun Stone" in the "Soul Ashes" section of the stone slab lit up.
Rod smiled.
Indeed, it was a real Sun Stone.
But the next moment, the line of text trembled, the font twisting and stretching to read "Contaminated Sun Stone."
At the same time, "Soul Ashes" turned into "Chaotic Soul Ash."
There was an additional line in the description below:
"Soul Ash created from Contaminated Sun Stones summons Spiritual Bodies that are out of control, going berserk and attacking all nearby beings."
What the hell is this?
Rod frowned. He vaguely remembered that Sun Stone seemed to be an important material for crafting high-grade Fuel Element.
So, did this mean that the Polluter Sect was trying to contaminate the Holy Fire using this method?
It was a cunning plan. He wondered if they would be able to detect it.
Rod felt an inexplicable worry. Not bothering to create "Soul Ashes," he quickly returned to the Material World and wrote down his speculations in detail, only omitting how he discovered it. He mentioned it was a passing thought and hoped they could check the raw materials for crafting Fuel Element, especially the Sun Stones.
He took out the Spirit Crow Messenger that Lauren had given him, stuffed the paper into the pocket on its back, and with a gentle lift of his hand, the Spirit Crow glowed as it took off toward the direction of the Internal Affairs Court.
After waiting for a while, the Spirit Crow Messenger returned. Rod pulled the letter from its pocket, which read:
"Do not worry, we have conducted a thorough investigation of all Fuel Elements, their raw materials, and the craftsmen. Pollutants cannot be introduced into the Holy Fire."
After reading it, Rod felt at ease and returned to the Dream Realm, planning to go ahead and craft the "Chaotic Soul Ashes."
Although the Spiritual Bodies summoned would attack indiscriminately, Rod was not a melee fighter. He could stay far away, tossing the ashes over, then shooting violently from behind. When a vulnerability appeared, he would move in with a "Soul Blast."
As long as he was careful, there would be no problems.
But which monster’s soul to choose?
Rod looked at the numerous Soul Fires floating above the Soul Altar; these were his earnings from his recent efforts.
In theory, with one stone per ash, the strongest should be chosen.
The strongest Monster Ash he had was that of a Plague Demon.
Unfortunately, the soul of the Plague Demon had already been used to make "Soul Firewood." Otherwise, if he could summon that monster, what was there to worry about?
The next in line was the ash of the Black Crow of Evil, but its soul was also turned into "Soul Firewood."
Beyond that, there was the Mutated Demon Spider.
Rod had killed quite a few of those creatures and had obtained five Complete Souls. And as a token of gratitude, Night Wing had given him all the ashes he had collected.
Alright, he would use those five.
The Mutated Demon Spider was actually quite powerful, a challenging adversary even for Night Wing, but it was drastically countered by Rod, reducing them to easy prey like slaughtering pigs.
Deciding this, Rod no longer hesitated, and quickly brought five "Mutated Demon Spider Souls" and five portions of Mutated Demon Spider Ash into the cabin. He also extracted fifty Humanity points from the Obelisk’s Humanity aspect.
His Humanity points were draining fast, now below 100.
Rod felt slightly depressed.
There was not enough Humanity—though he had just harvested a wave of it; otherwise, he couldn’t have even scraped together fifty portions.
Well... this was because he was away from the academy these days, killing monsters in the sewers every day, which slowed the accumulation of Humanity. Moreover, "Frost Blue" was consuming 30 points every day.
I need to find a way to secure some humanity.
As Rod pondered, he arranged all the materials onto the stone platform, and the "Chaotic Soul Ash" lit up completely.
With a light touch, the platform began to work by itself, mixing, grinding, solidifying, compressing, distilling—various tools bustling back and forth, every step meticulous.
Soon, five clumps of grey matter, emitting a faint glow, appeared before him.
"Chaotic Mutated Demon Spider’s Soul Ash"
A consumable item, it summons the spiritual body of a chaotic mutated demon spider, which will indiscriminately attack any object until it is destroyed or runs out of Spiritual Energy.
The grey clumps were only thumb-sized and very convenient to carry. To use them, one simply had to fill them with Spiritual Energy and throw them out.
Good.
Rod collected the five clumps of ash and returned to the Material World.
He stepped out of the room and saw the landlady cleaning the tables downstairs and almost all the seats in the tavern occupied. A glint of light flashed in his eyes as he quickly walked down.

The Mibor family.
Mibor Prosomor, the Great Judge, was the current family head.
However, his treatment hardly resembled that of a person of high stature.
Bang!
The bedroom door slammed shut right before his nose.
"Mibor! If you don’t sort this matter out for me, don’t even think about stepping through that door again!"
The golden-haired Mibor pleaded with a pained expression, "Lily, isn’t this for the sake of our daughter?"
A sharp voice from behind the door shouted, "For her sake? What were you doing scaring the boy for no reason?"
"Kashan’s only seventeen, how can she have a child?"
Bang! The door flew open.
A strikingly beautiful woman stood at the doorway, her golden hair and sky-blue eyes radiant, her figure slender, but the rage on her face was daunting.
"Wasn’t I seventeen when I had Kashan? Why didn’t you say anything then?"
Mibor suddenly became mute, stumbling over his words, "But, this is Kashan’s own choice, Lauren said she refused Rod’s courtship with her fists."
"Didn’t you teach her that? Fight, fight, fight, kill, kill, kill, all day long. Knowing full well how tough Kashan is to deal with, you still go intimidating the boy. Let me tell you, if you scare him off, I will tear you apart!"
Mibor’s face crumpled.
"What am I supposed to do now? I’ve already spoken, I can’t just take it back, can I? And I can’t force Kashan’s hand to let the boy—"
"I don’t care. I’ve already seen young Rod’s Spiritual Energy image and I’m quite pleased with it; before the term ends, I want to see Kashan bring him home. Otherwise, you can get out!"
Bang!
The door slammed shut once more in front of Mibor’s nose.

Internal Affairs Court.
Meditation Room.
Under the enormous scales insignia, Judgement Chief Lucian sat on an iron high chair, silently listening to reports from the Spirit Crow Messenger.
After a long while, Lucian opened his eyes and asked calmly.
"So he says, Manolo Bana has begun again?"
The crow bowed its head and replied, "Yes."
"Can we find evidence of his connection with Jon?"
"No, there is no evidence to prove it."
Lucian fell silent for a long time, murmuring to himself.
"Why is this? Is he doing it on purpose, or trying to cover something up?"
