The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 110 - 82 Encounter

Chapter 110: Chapter 82 Encounter

The sewers beneath the Iron Cross district were an "active area," still in use and regularly cleaned.

The areas of the sewers where the Polluter Sect resided were hidden, abandoned, worthless, and posed no threat, known as "dead zones."

Thus, for the Doomsday believers, this part of the sewers was very unfamiliar, only briefly frequented during the "Savior Plan" when Black Priest Sarimi led some believers here for a while.

Yet the plan ultimately failed miserably, all four "Saviors" died, the fragments lost, all somehow related to that Rod.

Because of this, the sect leader issued a kill order.

"Brothers, if we kill that traitor and bring back his corpse, we will be richly rewarded, stepping forward, and when the true Dark Age arrives, we will hold high positions, immortal!"

A believer loudly motivated his comrades.

"By then, all those high and mighty now will crawl at our feet, so-called ancient families like Mibor, Aligali, and Manolo Bana will kneel to shine our shoes, their women becoming our playthings."

Another believer also shouted, "Exactly, the light is but fleeting, darkness is eternal! The King of Fire will eventually pass, and the King of Darkness will ascend to the true throne, with us loyal servants by his side."

The believers cheered in unison.

One loudly declared, "Let’s go!"

The team quickly set off.

Then, a voice quietly asked, "Should we notify the other brothers?"

"Idiot, what if our merits are stolen? First come, first served; Rod, I heard, isn’t even a formal combatant and has only been enrolled for a month. How could we let such an opportunity slip to others?"

"Right, we can’t keep this news secret for long, we must act quickly, everything is limited; if you don’t grab it, others will."

"Exactly, so we need to secure high positions first. When the eternal Dark Age comes, it will be much harder to get promoted."

"Hurry, everyone pick up the pace!"

——

In another dark section of the sewers, the same words echoed.

"Hurry, everyone pick up the pace! We can’t let the other brothers get ahead!"

——

Iron Cross District.

Rod, in high spirits, arrived at the sewers and expertly stuffed Purification Ointment into his nostrils, taking a deep breath.

"Ah, the air here is truly fresh."

He pulled out his Spirit Gun, loaded it with True Silver Bullets, checked the Thunder Stone in the pouch on his belt, and touched the silver whistle in his pocket, the trump card given to him by Dean Theodore.

He then placed any potions he might need onto one side of his belt, lit the Spirit Lamp at his waist, and finally activated the Eye of the Soul; he was now fully prepared.

"Let’s hit the road."

Rod took a turn into the pipe on the left, a region he knew by heart.

This time, he had received a somewhat deeper cleaning task, granted to him based on his performance and special student status.

Big Scarface initially planned to provide him with manpower, forming a team, but Rod had declined.

More people would be inconvenient; he wouldn’t be able to freely enter and exit the Dream Realm, exchange items, or read maps momentarily. The upper levels of the sewer harbored no monsters that could threaten him, and with the Eye of the Soul, he was his own scout. The possibility of being ambushed was virtually nil.

Therefore, acting alone was the most efficient method.

For this reason, Big Scarface was so moved he was left speechless, gifting Rod the True Silver Bullets he had cherished for twenty years on the spot.

Although Rod doubted whether True Silver Bullets that had been stored for twenty years could still be used, he took them anyway.

Perhaps, laying them on the Stone Platform for some work might yield new from old.

In the sinister sewers, Rod strolled over the filthy limestone, firelight illuminating only his surroundings, while the enveloping darkness seemed like a demon opting to devour anyone. But he felt no fear, the Eye of the Soul allowing him to see what lay beyond physical obstructions.

Even the thick sewer walls couldn’t completely block his view.

For instance, right now, Rod could clearly see around the wall’s corner, a black Monster Soul which, from its Soul Waveform and shape, appeared to be a Plague Rat, somewhere between Primary Rank and Middle Rank.

Although his rank wasn’t high, the creature posed a great threat to Rod. Its speed was very fast, its movements were extremely agile; it was a type of monster he struggled to deal with.

Unlike normal combatants, his sole means of attack was the Spirit Gun; the two-second charge time was his biggest flaw.

If he missed, it meant he was in danger.

But if he saw it beforehand, it was much simpler.

Rod charged his Spirit Gun to the limit, circling around to its back. Most of the Plague Rat’s attention focused on the front, leaving its back a huge vulnerability. Ungraded monsters couldn’t cover their entire body with Spiritual Energy to fend off attacks.

Bang!

The True Silver Bullet hit its undefended spot, piercing its skin and exploding inside it.

Boom!

The Plague Rat was blasted into pieces by the silver light, and the soul that sustained its existence also dissipated. A cloud of black dust rose, and a dark line sank into Rod’s chest.

[Plague Rat Soul]

Not bad.

My first catch of the day.

What pleased him more was that his charging time had shortened by half a second. It took only one and a half seconds to fire a shot now.

I’ve become stronger.

And faster too.

Haha.

Rod continued forward and soon found a Plague Rat’s nest, hidden in an unremarkable hollow. They gathered corruption here, creating a breeding ground for decay—this was their characteristic, accelerating their growth.

Excellent.

Rod grasped a Thunder Stone and channeled Spiritual Energy into it. In about fifty seconds, a fully charged Thunder Stone was created.

Initially, it would have taken him at least a quarter of an hour to fully charge it.

Rod took out the Thunder Stone. The moment it left its grey pouch, it began to spark with electricity. It was a highly unstable substance. If it was charged and removed from the pouch, it would be activated like a grenade with its pin removed.

Rod quickly and accurately threw the Thunder Stone into the nest.

Seconds later, there was a loud explosion. The ground shook, and dozens of black lines flew up from the ground, sinking into his body.

[Plague Rat Soul]X3

[Weak Soul]X7

[Small Soul Fragment]X13

Not bad.

Rod was pleased. He was having a good day; starting off with a bang.

As he continued forward, after disposing of another Polluted Corpse, he discovered a strange soul.

It was hiding in a conduit high up in the sewer, cautiously watching him.

This soul was a mix of bluish-black and green, its Soul Waveform complex and suppressed; its Spiritual Energy was silent and unshowy, distinct from the pure black and Spiritual Energy-laden souls of monsters.

Clearly, this was a person!

Rod furrowed his brow.

Was it another Scavenger? Someone coming to steal my spot?

No, no, that’s not right.

If it was a comrade, there was no need to be so sneaky.

It must be a Doomsday believer!

The Doomsday Sect had really come for him!
