Chapter 169: Advice (1)

"Now that you mention having balls, I should convince Rafael to have a proper feast for the knights. After the competition, there will be a hunt for animals. The person who brings the best kill is given a bit of money."

"Everyone takes their kills home and has a feast with their families and friends. I should bring vegetables from my garden for a proper feast," said Beatrice, tapping her chin with a finger as she considered it.

Rafael might not be a fan of hosting a party, but the knights would enjoy every opportunity to drink and relax.

"Many of the knights will go home to give their kill to their families so you might have a bit of peace and quiet around here for one or two days. Rafael says one of his friends is getting married so you might get to travel with us to Lockwood. It is not certain since there was no invitation and I am starting to think it is a lie," Beatrice said because of the person she had always known Edgar to be.

Once again, there was doubt about the marriage and Annalise did not understand it. "Why is it so hard to believe his friend is getting married? Is it because they swore to never get married?" She asked.

Beatrice looked to her right at Annalise. "Well, since they were young Rafael and Edgar never had any interests in marriage. It made me question myself because I have a wonderful marriage and I would hate to think he looked at my marriage when he made that decision. As for Edgar, the boy is complicated so it is surprising he is getting married before Rafael."

"Did you know the king also did not want to get married? The three of them used to ride around the kingdom dealing with problems, but there was a certain time for the prince to head back to the palace. He did not want to return and hid out here so Edagr was forced to drag him back to the palace to attend the selection for his future queen."

"Again, boys are headaches. A daughter if you could," Beatrice said, crossing her finger in hopes it would come true. She resisted the urge to hold Annalise’s hands and plead with her. She did not want to be banned from Rafael’s home.

Annalise could only smile in response. If she made any more promises out of her mouth, the guilt was going to kill her.

"If I could have any more children, I would be happy to just have another child, but secretly, I wanted a girl. Someone to stay by my side when the boys went out of town. Or maybe I might have had a boy who wouldn’t been able to part from his mother and stay with me. Rafael was like that until he became serious about being a knight," said Beatrice.

"What were you like as a child, Annalise?"

"I was," Annalise stopped to think of her youth.

She was always around her mother and father when she wasn’t playing with the other children. She enjoyed every second of her father being home. Her father would occasionally sigh when told the stories of what she had done in his absence, but Annalise liked to think she was a good child to have.

"I was a good child. I am really close to my mother and father. My father and I like the same things so it is always fun when he is around. My mother is fun too but there are times when she wants me to sit around and do things that I do not enjoy. Still, I wouldn’t want her to change how she is," Annalise replied.

"It sounds like you have a good family. That is good to hear. Will they ever come to this town to see you?" Beatrice asked.

"No," Annalise replied, continuing to force her smile. If her father ever came to this town, this manor would be flipped upside down. Once he laid eyes on River and then Rafael who she was serving, he would go straight for those two. "I would rather visit them to see if they need any help with the farm."

’A farm is good,’ Beatrice thought since she liked dealing with her garden. So far, it sounded like she could get along with Annalise’s parents.

Annalise frowned, annoyed by the sight of the person walking toward her and Beatrice. If Beatrice wasn’t here, she would turn around to get far away from Logan.

"Lady Beatrice," Logan greeted Beatrice, ignoring the woman beside her who wanted to claw his eyes out.

"Logan," Beatrice greeted, opening her arms to welcome him with a hug. "Are you hiding from training again? You know if he catches you, you will be forced to run around the manor. Slackers like you bring out the bad side in Rafael."

Logan approached Beatrice and hugged her. She was like a second mother to all the knights. "He only has one side and it is the bad side. I keep telling you that the commander can be quite cruel to us, but you never believe it. I wasn’t slacking off. I was looking for the butler. Annalise," he said, finally turning to her.

"Logan," Annalise replied, squinting her eyes at him and daring him to annoy her. Beatrice might be right here, but that wouldn’t stop her from killing him right here, right now. She was yet to get over him speaking for her when she wanted to spar with Rafael.

His mouth taunted her to get a needle and sew it shut so she would not have to hear him speak any longer. She would be nice and heat the needle to make the job quick.

Beatrice looked back and forth between the two, confused by the animosity from Annalise’s end. "Do you not like each other?" She asked, hoping that was not the case. Annalise should have a good relationship with the knights since they were a big part of Rafael’s life.

Beatrice knew she was getting ahead of herself since it was only Rafael with feelings as of right now, but she could not help getting excited. Her son liked his maid and it was the first time in a while Rafael was showing interest in a woman. And it wasn’t the kind of woman she found questionable.

"On the contrary, I happen to like Annalise a lot, but she has failed to return my feelings. I am still trying my best to win her over. One day her heart will belong to me," Logan smiled, not put off by the glare that was deadly enough to make him start getting a headache.

’Oh dear,’ Beatrice frowned, touching her chest because of the problem at hand. ’This cannot happen.’

Beatrice faced Annalise and asked, "Do you mind getting me some water, dear? My throat is feeling a bit dry. I wonder if the heat is starting to get to me."

"Of course," Annalise replied, excusing herself to get water. She could not be more thankful for Beatrice sending her away from Logan and hoped he would not follow her.

Beatrice listened to Annalise walking away while keeping her eyes on Logan who was glued to Annalise. This would be a bit of a problem for her plans. Thankfully, it looked like Annalise did not like Logan.

"Logan," Beatrice said to get his attention. "No," she tapped his left cheek.
