The Knight's Mysterious Maid -
Chapter 150: Doubt (3)
Chapter 150: Doubt (3)
Rafael couldn’t disagree with her as the compliment in the midst of their conversation did distract him and now her foot was free. It wasn’t the best idea to fight against the woman he was trying to deny having feelings for since the smallest little thing distracted him. He did what he scolded his knights for doing when women walked by.
She was much better at this than he imagined. There were many questions he needed answered about her father and where he learned to fight.
"What is the name of your father?" Rafael asked, blocking another one of her attacks she thought she could get in while he was lost in his thoughts.
’And now the fun must end,’ Annalise thought.
She loosened her grip on the sword and as she tried to strike him again, she let it fly out of her hands.
"It seems I have lost," Annalise said, stepping back so she could not be hit by the second blow he was ready to send. "I am no match for you."
Rafael slowly lowered his hand. He would have to be a fool to think he had easily knocked the sword out of her hands. She could have put up more of a fight. This small fight was far from over and the little smile she wore told him that she knew it too. He did not understand why she had ended the fight so soon and pretended to lose.
Annalise looked away from Rafael to where she heard twigs and leaves being stepped on. The fight ended right on time for them to avoid letting someone spy on her and Rafael having a match against each other. Had he not started to question her father, she would have let it go on a bit longer. Perhaps knock him on his ass for holding her foot so long.
There was still a lot about Rafael that she needed to study to be able to fight against him for real one day. He fought her differently as he would with the knights and she knew it had to be due to him not expecting her to know how to fight and her being a woman. She watched him fight against the knights enough times to see how much more force he used with his strikes.
Annalise held back just like Rafael, but she knew she had to continue training in secret to be able to keep up with him in a real fight. He trained almost every day while she did not so he had the advantage.
"Don’t you think this is enough?" Logan asked, making his way over to the two. "She is a woman."
Annalise glared at Logan’s unnecessary mention of her gender. Instead of fighting Rafael, she would like to fight him and this time, she would not stop until one of them was dead. Who made Logan the man who had to speak for her?
In his eyes, did it look like her lips were sewn together and she could not speak for herself? These feelings he believed he had for her, did nothing except irritate her.
"She can take care of herself better than we realise," Rafael answered, staring at Annalise who was busy glaring at Logan. What else about her was going to surprise him?
"You tower over her and you can easily overpower her. What is going through your head to think it is a good idea to fight her?" Logan asked, trying his best to hold back his anger. He couldn’t stop thinking about Rafael’s answer when he spoke about trust. His mind had so many thoughts running wild in it now.
Annalise took off the helmet and thought of throwing it at Logan’s head for interrupting what happened to be a good moment for her. His arrival disrupted the conversation about her father, but she could have done that on her own. Now she had to deal with him acting like her lover. At what point would her rejection reach his mind?
"She can take care of herself," Rafael repeated.
Rafael knew that Logan’s feelings for Annalise were getting him worked up, but Logan was acting like he did not know him. Rafael had been quite gentle with Annalise as a man who was used to delivering hard blows and he had seen it for himself that she could protect herself. He understood now why she didn’t see herself as fragile and needing protection.
"She is-"
"Say that I am a woman one more time and I will throw this helmet. There are women amongst the knights. When they are fighting your enemies, do you stop in the middle of the battle to tell everyone to go easy on them because they are women?" Annalise asked.
Logan turned to face Annalise. She knew that was hardly the same because those women were knights. "That is not what I meant," he said.
"Then be straight with what you mean and stop saying that I am a woman. I was the one to accept his challenge to fight him one-on-one. Don’t you think I considered the dangers? I don’t need you to speak on my behalf when I have a mouth that works. Stop getting ahead of yourself and acting like you have some right to speak for me. It is annoying," Annalise said, hoping this would be the last time she had to say this.
She looked off to the side at the wooden sword she let go of. Had he not been like this big puppy in love, they might have been able to be friends, but he annoyed her to the point of no return.
"Annalise, go inside the manor and wait for me. I need to speak with Logan alone," Rafael said, looking at his sword which was fine for another fight.
Annalise gladly left the two men alone so she could calm herself and think over her fight with Rafael.
Rafael and Logan both kept their gaze on her as she left.
"Pick up the sword," Rafael ordered Logan, referring to the sword Annalise had used.
"Didn’t you get enough out of fighting her?" Logan questioned in response. "You are behaving strangely and I do not like it."
"Is it that or the fact you don’t want to compete against me for her?" Rafael replied, getting straight to the point. This wasn’t just about Annalise being safe, it was about Logan questioning whether there was something going on between him and Annalise. "You should just say what you feel instead of beating around the bush. You know I hate it."
"What did you mean by there is trust right now?" Logan asked.
"Exactly what you thought when I said it," Rafael replied, going to pick up the other sword since Logan turned down his offer to fight. He wanted to test the strength Annalise used with the strength of one of his knights.
Logan clenched his fists, disliking where this was going. This was Rafael after all. The man who swore off women and never looked to court any of his maids. He shouldn’t have any reason to be angry, but Rafael only pissed him off with his blunt answers. "It can’t be that you also like her, could it?"
"I do," Rafael admitted as denying it only made him act like a fool and caused him to be distracted in the middle of their fight. He liked Annalise and wished to know more about her.
"You said you would never be with one of your maids," Logan reminded Rafael of his rule.
"That has not changed. I won’t do anything to make her uncomfortable like you have been doing-"
"You know that I like her!" Logan yelled, frustrated with Rafael seemingly forgetting about what he shared.
"It sounds like I was the only one listening to what she said. You have no chance with her so why should I bother to deny what I feel for you? It is not like I stole your woman. She does not belong to either one of us," Rafael answered.
