Chapter 133: Feelings (3)

Annalise felt better after a moment passed with the dress not hugging her body. She wouldn’t wish it on her worst enemy to have to wear a dress like that. Beatrice didn’t look that much smaller than her so why was the dress so tight?

’How did I end up picking the tightest dress from his mother’s-’ Annalise froze.

Only now was she aware of the position she was in with Rafael. With him touching her and her head resting against his chest. The latter she had done on her own accord. She had been so relieved by what he did that she had not noticed how they stood and she failed to panic about her dress being ripped open.

How was she to walk out of here and not have any assumptions made about them? Even if she were to wear a coat, it would seem suspicious for her to have it hiding her torn dress after being alone with him. Annalise doubted all the servants had left so now she was stuck here with a torn dress.

"Rafael?" Annalise broke the silence. She lifted her head so she would not be touching him. "You can let go of the dress now. I do not think it will all fall to the floor if you let go now. I hope," she muttered.

Rafael let go of Annalise before there was something she noticed and place her in a difficult spot. If they stood together any longer, his body would have her feel his attraction to her. He stepped back, peering down at her as she stared at him with a thankful expression. She no longer forced a smile to pretend.

"Stay here. I will get another dress from my mother’s-"

"Won’t it be a waste since this one was tight? I do not want to have any more of them torn," Annalise said.

"You just happened to pick one of the smaller dresses. It is not uncommon for women to pick dresses smaller than them to help show off their bodies. They breathe when they get home and some of the dresses have been in that room for a long time. My mother’s body has changed since then. I will have Mavis get rid of the ones that can no longer fit my mother. Unless you want to have them?" Rafael offered.

"To kill me? I might have died if not for your help just now. I do not need to take any more of your mother’s clothes. I like living. It is nice since I am not somewhere underground with people walking all over me. Putting all types of flowers where I lie to make me itch," Annalise said, her body shuddering as she thought of touching the flower that hated her.

Rafael could not get used to the ill-fated relationship she had with the flowers of all things. "You are not worried about the insects eating your body?" He asked.

"They’ve got to eat, don’t they?" Annalise replied, not seeing why that should worry her.

Rafael stared at Annalise in disbelief. At one point, he questioned the things she did or said, but now he had to question himself since it was clear that he had feelings for her. They might be small and perhaps he was just infatuated with her, but he still had some feelings for her.

Regardless of her strange love for snakes, he still happened to like her. After all the strange things she said that no other normal person would say, he was shocked by it and still ended up liking her. He had to question what was wrong with him to be attracted to this type of woman. Her looks added to the attraction, but it was the strange personality that he liked.

Annalise was left confused as Rafael walked out of the room without saying anything to her. "Did he not like my answer? It is not like I can stop something from eating me when I am dead. What is wrong with him?" She wondered.

The door closed with a loud bang after Rafael had stepped outside, most likely to bring her another dress. It would have been nice if he said something before he left.

"Did I upset him?" Annalise asked herself out loud. She knew that her answers were never what he was looking for, but she was being honest. Shouldn’t he like that? "He is strange," she concluded.

Instead of moving from where she stood, Annalise remained where Rafael left her. It wouldn’t be long before he returned and she didn’t want him to think she was sneaking around when she really wasn’t this time.

Annalise looked down at the ruined dress she wore. It was a shame it had to be destroyed. Hopefully, she could find someone to mend it and then gift it to Cara or Heidi if it would fit one of them. It was too pretty to go to waste and it must have been expensive since it was for Beatrice.

"I should have tried my chest tighter. These things are useless," she muttered, touching her breast. They only created a hassle for her to tie tightly to hide the fact that she was a woman whenever she snuck around. "I should just cut you off, but then mother would faint. How will you feed your children," she mimicked her mother.

"I suppose it would be a bit extreme to remove my breasts. There would be blood, Thomas would faint, and I could die. The three of us will just have to stick together," Annalise sighed.

Sometimes she was jealous of the men with their bodies which were more suited for fighting. She also wanted to try on the armour that Rafael and his knights wore. The ones that they picked from the bodies of fallen guards were given to the men who fought at the front of the war at the border. She had never gotten the chance to wear one.

It pained Annalise to stand around in a room full of armour and not try on one. She could not take the risk of trying on one when Rafael was away since it would make a loud noise as she moved and it would be hard to get out of quickly if someone were to show up. That would be her placing herself to be fired.

The door opened, revealing Rafael with a red dress in his hands.

"You can get dressed in my bathroom. There are still a few servants downstairs so you won’t make it to the servant quarters without being seen by someone," Rafael said as he handed her the dress.

"Unless I jump from your balcony. I’m kidding. Who would ever do such a thing?" Annalise forced a laugh. She took the dress from him and backed away from him toward the bathroom so he could not see where he had destroyed the dress.

Rafael turned around to offer her some privacy. "Take your time. We are not in any rush to leave when it is so early."

"Understood," he heard her response and then the bathroom door closed.

Rafael was left alone to wait for her in the quiet room which allowed his mind to be filled with thoughts about her.

Since he had admitted that he had feelings for her, it was best to not have her as his maid any longer since it might be uncomfortable for her if she ever found out and a bit uncomfortable for him. He would need to assign her a guard instead of keeping her by his side.
