Chapter 107: Confused (1)

"We should end this here. It won’t be long until Edwin or Mavis pass by here. Do you want to continue this or go back to normal? I am not going to ever run to you and apologise for getting a good job. Know that in the early," Annalise said as it was not her job to make Aria feel better about not getting what she wanted.

She was not Aria’s mother to be cuddling her to stop her from throwing a tantrum.

"I will not befriend anyone who does anything but work hard to get ahead. All you do is open your mouth to say something foolish and the Callahans fall for it. You are like a wild animal-"

"Aria, if you cherish your life, do not call me a wild animal," Annalise said, gripping the basket to calm her anger.

"And what will you do? Put a snake in my bed? I shall tell Mavis if you do it," said Aria.

Annalise smiled, biting her tongue to restrain herself. Snakes were the last thing on her mind whenever someone called her wild. Her first thought was to have her hands around Aria’s throat, squeezing it tightly until her eyes started to roll back.

All the people here saw was her playful nature. Her being a simple farm girl who was not meant for this town. Being in this town was a hard challenge for her to not attack anyone when it filled her mind.

"Continue to call me wild if you wish to make your parents mourn. This is my one and only warning to you. I am retiring to my room," Annalise said and then walked off to head to the servant quarters. She had enough of the conversations when it came to Aria.

Heidi sighed, touching her face as she could not believe how riled up she was. "I cannot believe I must continue to work alongside you for the rest of the day. The manor is large and yet, I manage to always be near the people who irritate me."

Annalise reached her room without being stopped by anyone. She went inside and locked the door behind her to have some privacy. This small room given to her was the one place in the manor where she could drop her act and be the person that she truly was.

"How is it that I have not killed anyone yet? They all push me to do it," Annalise said, placing the basket on the small table, and then sat down on her bed.

She looked out the window at the yard where many of the knights were running around. She would give anything to train and pick up a sword so she could hit something and let out her anger.

"What is it with the people here and using the word wild or barbarians?" She whispered, falling backwards onto her bed.

There were many names she could call the people here, but she kept them to herself. Just because of the way her people lived differently from the other towns in the Castro kingdom, they were called barbarians.

No one from this side looked to call out the king for destroying the homes of people who once aided the kings before him until they asked her people to bow and change the way they lived to be like everyone else.

This town had its special places where Annalise enjoyed going and it had things she had never seen before which made life easier like the carriages. She was used to using horses to get around. Still, her home had its special places that the people here would fall in love with if they stopped judging.

Annalise closed her eyes to imagine herself back at home, running around the open fields with her friends to pass the time. Her own horse grazing in the distance and her dog chasing her. She soon fell into a deep slumber, lost in her dreams which made her feel like she was back home.

Hours later, Annalise went right back to work as it was nearing dinner and she was meant to prepare Rafael’s bath. She stood outside of his door and waited for him to answer her knock.

The door opened, revealing Rafael standing before her with his hair dripping wet, and the water falling down to his bare chest.

Annalise looked to the right not to stare at him. "I am here to prepare your bath."

"Can’t you tell just by looking that I have already had one? Come inside," Rafael said, continuing to hold the door and stepping back to give her space to enter.

"Are you certain that you do not want me to stand out here while you get dressed?" Annalise asked, keeping her eyes on the floor that was more interesting than she ever realised.

"You should have seen plenty of knights running around without their shirts. You should be used to this by now. It is not like I have opened the door without any pants. Let us also not forget that the only part of me you have never seen is my ass," said Rafael.

Her innocently saying "it is only a penis" filled his mind.

"That was an accident and I do not want to be rude to stare. I would not like for you to be standing around when I am not properly dressed," Annalise replied. Why couldn’t he just go put on a shirt? It was different when it was the other knights running around with their bodies covered in sweat.

Rafael made her panic instead of enjoying the sight. Then she heard the word pervert haunting her already.

"Fortunately, there would never be an instance where you are not completely dressed and I stand at your door. Come inside, Annalise. I will start to assume that you can not look at me because once you do, you will find it hard to look away. I am aware of the way my body puts others in a trance. There is nothing for you to be ashamed of."

Annalise slowly turned to face Rafael, her brows knitted as the cockiness in his words shocked her. "I am not put in a trance when I look at you like this. I am only trying to be respectful and give you some privacy, young master."

"I am fine with you being in the same room with me when I am without a shirt, but you make a big issue out of it. Most of my time at home, I spend without a shirt as I am training under the hot sun. You are meant to be like my shadow. How can you be when you can not look at me? You only need to look at my face and not look any lower. Challenge yourself to it," Rafael said, releasing the door so she could walk in on her own.

"I- What just happened?" Annalise asked, feeling like she was missing something. "I do not need to challenge myself. I can look at your face and not have my eyes go anywhere else. I was respecting you. Are you drunk, young master?"

"I am never drunk," Rafael replied, sitting on the edge of his bed. He covered his head with the cloth to start drying his hair.

"I think you might be drunk enough to not notice it. Let me do it. When I dry my hair there are still some wet spots I don’t notice until I am doing something else. You are meant to be downstairs in a few minutes," Annalise said, walking over to the bed to dry his hair.

"I do not need-" Rafael’s paused when he felt her hands in his hair.

"I am aware that you can take care of yourself, but I am still your maid and I want to work hard to show that I am worth being your maid," Annalise said.
