THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 63: Dead Serious

Chapter 63: Dead Serious

Time flew by and soon it was dinner time. Madam Heidi had managed to clean me up before dinner starts. The salve could only do so much so Madam Heidi had to brush out my hair to hide out of the worst of the damage. She also did a heavy makeup which honestly didn’t feel like me but perhaps maybe that was what I needed to be able to get through this dinner if I was going to be sitting around a table filled with men that who only saw what they wanted to say instead of searching deep inside to look for the truth.

I sat at the dining table, ignoring the whole forced laughter and words of congratulations that were being thrown to Reagan and I after my father announced news of our pregnancy to the entire hall, boasting about a Westward being able to carry a strong Hawthrone line.

Reagan sat next to me with his face revealing nothing while his hands tightly held the goblet so that his grip seemed slightly excessive. He kept a blank face which suggested neither satisfaction nor displeasure about my father’s performance and the present situation.

I on the other hand knew I had a duty to play. I kept my face carefully composed, offering small and polite smiles for essential moments. My father continued to beam, relishing in the moment as though he were the one who was expecting.

"Congratulations Lord Reagan." One of the ladies of the court said, raising her goblet up to us, "I’m sure you and the princess will make a very beautiful baby."

"Yes, yes, yes!" My father boasted loudly, "Indeed they would, indeed!" He said drinking more from his goblet."

Reagan offered the woman a tight smile before reaching for his own goblet which he drank from his wine, simply offering the woman a tight smile but not saying anything else. His silence spoke volumes, it revealed everything even though everyone else is choosing to ignore it, all except me.

We were seated opposite Killian and my brother with his family. Amelia of course was oblivious to what was happening or maybe she was purposely doing it to avoid any trouble but there was a certain tension in the air and it felt like we were all puppets and my father was the puppeteer.

"So," My father suddenly asked, "Have you started thinking of baby names?"

I choked on my wine, losing my composure as I blinked at my father. "Baby names?" I asked dumbly.

"But of course, my grandson needs to have a unique name."

Great, now he is already assuming the gender, what if it was a girl? The thought popped in my head but I wisely kept my mouth shut. I offered a small smile to my father, "Um, Reagan and I haven’t had a chance to really talk about it."

Or talk about anything else really! I thought to myself as I shot Reagan a side way glance. I couldn’t help but notice how rigid Reagan seemed to get by the second and he was now gripping his goblet tightly, his knuckles almost turning white.

"Well you should." My father carried on, leaning back in his seat. "Give him a strong name, one that carries power, one that not only demands respect but commands it."

Reagan suddenly cleared his throat then, causing all attention to fall to him but he simply ignored them and turned to look at me. "Can we go somewhere to talk?"

I was expecting this, it was high time we finally have a proper conversation! I thought to myself as I nodded my head at Reagan who didn’t even bother to wait for my father’s approval before standing up from his seat. I turned to smile politely at the guest before I stood up and went after my husband.

Reagan walked ahead of me, taking long purposeful strides but still his posture remained rigid. I walked silently behind him, not saying anything as he continued to lead us to our destination. Once we reached the dimly lit corridor away from prying eyes, Reagan stopped and pushed open the door to my bedroom. He motioned for me to enter, inside.

I hesitated for a brief moment then straightening my back, I entered through the doorway. When the door locked behind us Reagan released a deep breath and started raked his hand through his hair in frustration before he turned to look at me with intense emotions that I couldn’t decipher.

"How long?" He finally spoke.

I already knew what he was asking of me, so I decided to answer him. "A week now, I think."

Reagan snorted at that, nodding his head as he begin to pace the room. "And you didn’t think to tell me?"

"I was going to tell you_"

"You were going to tell me when exactly Dahlia?" Reagan suddenly yelled which was the most emotion I had seen from him from him ever since he got here, "Were you ever going to tell me at all or were you just going to keep it another secret just like your other identity?" Reagan asked his voice filled with betrayal and hurt.

I flinched at that, "I was going to tell you." I said my voice trembling as my eyes got misty with tears, "I swear Dahlia...."

"Then when?" Reagan yelled at me loudly.

I flinched but I stood firm even though the tears were now threatening to fall from my eyes. "I swear I was going to tell you, I was just waiting for the right moment..."

"The right moment? That your excuse?" Reagan scoffed at me, "There is just never the right moment with you. You just keep on building up the lies and then when I find out you come up with silly excuses like waiting for the right moment? Well guess what Dahlia, there is never the right moment!"

I laughed but it was one without humor. I stared up at Reagan, "I will admit it, I lied to you but never call my excuses silly." I said raising my voice, "When should I have told you about being the black knight? When you were off conquering kingdoms? When you couldn’t stand my entire existence and about the pregnancy? When should I have told you Reagan? When you threw me into the dungeon or when you were too busy fucking Celeste?" I yelled at him I anger.

Reagan blinked at that, his jaw clenching a little but he regained his composure. "This is not about me or Celeste!"

"Oh believe me buddy it is." I said stepping closer to him, "Because I have just been tasked to kill your dearly beloved Celeste!" I informed him and Reagan turned to look at me, his gaze assessing me trying to see if I was serious or not but he must have seen something in my expression that told him I was because the next thing he took a step backwards, his face filled with shock as he stared at me as if seeing me for the first time.
