THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 51: Shocking News
Chapter 51: Shocking News
The sound of water hitting the ground in rhythmic drops was the first sound that I woke up to. My eyelids fluttered open and the only thing my eyes could make out was nothing but darkness. The dense odor of damp earth and iron filled my nostrils as I regained consciousness. I raised myself up from the ground trying to sit up but my body protested sending sharp aches of pain, especially in my arm. I still managed to pull myself in a sitting position.
Breathing heavily, I turned to inspect my arm only to see to see that a new bandage now that replaced the bloodied one that had been soaked earlier. Someone had come in to take care of me when I was passed out.
Apparently, Reagan still cared enough not to let me pass out in my old blood! I thought to myself as sighed heavily as I leaned against the dungeon. My stomach soon grumbled, the sound echoing in the dungeon. Perfect, just perfect! The increasing list of problems now included food hunger.
I heard a click, the distinctive metallic sound of a key in the iron lock darkness. My body instantly turned rigid, my instincts at alert despite my tiredness. A thin beam of orange light spilled into the damp cell when the door opened.
"My lady." A soft voice called out.
Heather! I immediately stood up from the ground as Heather entered the cell, carrying a tray of food in one hand. She set it down on the floor before we stood there staring at each other for a minute and before we knew it, we were crossing the cell to go and hug each other.
Enclosing me in her arms, Heather broke into a sob. "Oh my lady, I’m so sorry."
"No, no, no, hush now." I said soothingly as I eased away from her, "How is it going out there?" I asked her.
Sniffing, Heather stared up at me. "Surprisingly fine, no one has any idea that you are in here." She told me while I frowned in confusion, "I do not think anyone knows you are in here and I think Sir Reagan doesn’t want anyone to do either because he hasn’t said a word."
Really? So that means that he hasn’t told anyone that I was the black knight? Guess that was great news, I think! Shaking my head, I raised my head up to stare at her. "So where’s Reagan now?"
Heather looked away from me like she didn’t want to say anything. Keeping her gaze down, she reached for the tray of food and handed it to me. "Here, you should eat something. You haven’t eaten anything since yesterday." She mumbled under her breath.
I wanted to call her out on it, but the moment she slid the food to me which consisted of warm bread, roasted meat, and a small bowl of stew, my stomach growled loudly at the sight and I could feel my mouth watering as I stared at it. Sighing, I grabbed a piece of bread and breaking off a little piece. One bite felt like swallowing ashes because too many thoughts crowded my mind but I still ate it.
Next I reached for the soup and drank out of it, then reached out for the roasted meat and I was about to eat it when I suddenly felt nauseated. Wrinkling my face, I dropped the bread I was eating back in the tray before I rushed off in a corner to go and vomit.
Heather immediately came to my aid, handing me a cup of water which I used to rinse my mouth. Sighing heavily, I handed her the empty cup as I stood up, noticing how weak I suddenly felt all over.
"Thank you." I mumbled weakly.
"You haven’t been eating well and you suddenly throw up now that I brought food to you?" Heather asked me, her brows furrowing with concern as she stared at me.
Wiping at my mouth with the back of my hand, I stared at Heather. "Something about that food smelled really wrong, all the food did and it’s weird really." I say equally as confused as Heather was.
Heather didn’t say anything for a moment, instead all she did was stare at me. Then tilting her head to the side, she appraised me slowly with her eyes. "When was the last time you bled?"
"Excuse you?" I asked with a hint of surprise and confusion because where on earth did that even come from?
"My lady, this is serious." Heather whispered as she stared at me with something akin to worry, "When was the last time you bled?"
I eyed Heather warily, not sure where she was getting at but I decided to answer her. "I_" My voice faltered. Thinking back, I realized it had actually been a month since I saw my period. I didn’t think much to it because I thought it was just stress but now, standing in front of Heather who watched me, I felt something like unease creep down my spine.
Heather stared at me at me for several seconds before her expression shifted. "Have you considered that perhaps you might be with_"
"No." I cut her off not willing to believe it, "No, it can’t be." I said firmer this time around.
Heather hesitated, then she stepped closer her voice dropping to a whisper. "My lady, I think you are with child."
"Damn it Heather, why did you have to say it out loud?" I hissed at her but I let the weight of the words she said hit me as I thought back to everything that suddenly now made sense.
The sudden nausea, the wave of dizziness, my constant tiredness and my hormones too, it was all because I was pregnant! I was pregnant! I thought to myself as my hands trembled and I began pacing the dungeon cell.
This really couldn’t be happening, not right here, not right now and especially not at this moment! I thought to myself as I brought my hand to my mouth, biting my fingernails.
I was pregnant! Pregnant! Me, Fuck! I screamed internally while a shuddering breath escaped me physically.
"My lady, is everything okay?" Heather asked me.
Of course not! I wanted to yell out but instead, I turned to stare at her. "I need to speak to Reagan."
Heather gave me a wry smile. "Actually my lady, sir Reagan has actually requested to see you!"
