Chapter 157: The Interrogation
REAGAN POV
For Nikolai to be here, I guess Skornir is now willing to talk! I thought to myself and a silent nod from me was the confirmation he needed. We walked out of the room together and headed straight towards the dungeon. I nodded to the guard to open the dungeon and once inside I headed straight into Skornir’s prison.
Inside of it, I met Killian who was shirtless and had he had blood all over his body but it wasn’t his. My gaze moved to Skornir who was slumped down in his seat. One of his eyes was already swollen shut. He had several cuts on his body, one particular long one stretched across the side of his face that appeared both deep and red and enraged. His shackled hands showed bloodstains, particularly all over his fingers. Killian really did a number on him!
I stared up at Killian who was busy washing his hands in a bowl nearby, the water in it was no different from the color of blood. That was how bloody his hands was.
I hated bringing out this side of Killian, it was a side that had been suppressed for so long. Anyone who saw Killian was always quick to underestimate him because all he does was smile and play the noble who loved party and women but there was a darker side to him.
Something they didn’t always see, Killian had a rough upbringing just like I did. He lost his father at a young age just like I did mine. But except I adapted more to icy silence and carefully crafted rage. Killian on the other hand used laughter to protect himself and he used charm as an offensive tool, something to make people underestimate him and just when they get sucked in his trap, well may the gods help whoever had crossed him at that moment.
The blood from his knuckles became mixed with water as he scrubbed them viciously so the blood dripped like streams of guilt onto his arms. He remained silent, not saying anything. He was only more concerned with scrubbing his hands clean, something that would never be able to scrub away the things he’d done tonight in this room.
"Are you alright?" My question came out before I could figure out whether I was seeking the answer for him or for myself.
After all, I was the one who had pushed him to do this and I hated what it’s doing to him, I hated seeing him like this which was why I left. But I made sure Nikolai stayed with him, in case he strayed too far and got lost in that dark part in his mind, although looking at him now I can’t say that worked.
Skornir chuckled weakly from where he was being slumped on the chair. "Aww, you are all about to hug and share a few kisses right now!"
"Shut up!" Nikolai and I said at the same time.
Skornir laughed but it was a little shaky, there was fear in them. "He’s a monster, that one." He said before he turned on his side and spat out blood, "But you do not need to worry about..."
Before he could get another word out Killian approached him and I saw the strangest thing. Skornir as big as he was tried to get away from him, his eyes widening with the fear that Killian was going to touch him.
Killian finally succeeded in breaking him.
He finally managed to instill fear inside of him, the sort of fear penetrated the target and caused an effect that made powerful warriors feel small. Skornir who had once showed no sign of fear now behaved as scared as a trapped creature. Skornir held his breath as Killian slowly advanced towards us and the only way he started breathing again was when Killian stopped right next to me, not making any move towards him.
"You are going to tell us everything we need to know." I said folding my arms.
Skornir managed to glare at us through his on good eyes. Heaving out a deep breath, he adjusted himself on his seat even though he still looked tense. "Look I don’t know much about the eye of the tiger, if anything you lot seem to know a whole lot more than I do."
"Why is the king purchasing from you? Why is he now distributing it among the court?"
"Because it’s so fucking good!"
Killian stepped forward and Skornir shrank back, "Look I honestly do not know. The ember dust is bigger than some drugs that’s just distributed at mere parties. The ember dust is delivered across nations, kings want it to make their army stronger." Skornir started saying, "And I do not know much about your king but all I know is that he is scared and fear makes people do a whole lot of crazy things!"
"And what do you know about crazy things?" Nikolai challenged.
"I’m talking to you, am I not?" Skornir retorted sharply casting Nikolai a glare, "Word among the street is that your king is scared and there’s also something about eliminating threats. Few weeks ago he took some of our best men and sent them to Mount Callum to..."
"Mount Callum?" I spoke for the first time and I felt Nikolai and Killian tense up behind me.
Skornir nodded his head as he continued. "Something about burning down the entire haven of the sisters of the earth or whatever it is they call themselves." He said before shaking his head, "Look I don’t know what exactly it is that’s happening, but I know is that the king is angry and scared and he’s eliminating anyone who stands in his way!"
I was done listening to what he has to say, I was already out the dungeon, walking as fast as I can out the dungeon and straight into the armory. My boots slapped across the stone floor as I raced through the hallway. I breathed heavily my racing heart sounding louder than the ongoing thunder outside.
Mount Callum, Sisters of the earth, Dahlia!
Oh gods, I was fucked!
