THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 149: The Power Of Sleep
Chapter 149: The Power Of Sleep
The large wooden gates swung open and if I thought the outside was beautiful then nothing could have prepared me for the interior. It looked like we had walked into Naktus residence herself. The minute we entered I could feel the air shift into something warmer with deep fragrant air like the breath of a thriving forest. A blend of wild herbs and damp moss along with fresh rain permeated all surfaces. From above the ceiling soared so high until it resembled that of storm and the smooth stoned surface had been entwined with creeping ivy which produced golden flowers that emitted a faint glow in the dim illumination.
Crystal window skylight shaped like floral petal shapes let sunlight create gentle floor patterns on the polished stone surface. Marble floors revealed pale veins of tree roots which extended from the ancient trees and twisted across the surface like living tissue with weak life forces. The path was crossed by running pure spring water which shone like moonlight under our feet.
The entire structure did not resemble as it had been pictured on the scrolls in the archive. It was like the mountain had parted itself into two to become our entrance.
"Wow!" Ivana breathed out and I guess that was one word for it because there was no amount of words that could have described this beauty.
We all turned around breathing in the clean air and soaking up all the purity. Women walked around dressed in white each one also wore crowns made with flowers. There was no single male in sight, everyone were all women. Different ages, young, old and there were also people of different ethnicities and colors too but most importantly there were all so beautiful they looked like they were from another world entirely, as though the earth itself and poured life into them.
Some of the women walked through the stone paths by using willow twig brooms to sweep the grounds and they did it without making any noise. Others carried basket with sweet smelling herbs and others contained fruits of different kinds. When they walk it is as if they drift across water cause their footsteps was almost soundless. The area rang with laughter that sounded distant as water waves made their way through stones.
There was no urgency here. No shouting. No harshness, just the soft rhythms of nature of living in tune with something much older, deeper.
The gentle wind from the chamber carried away free wandering pink petals that danced elegantly in the air and a few attached in my hair. I didn’t bother to remove them and instead allowed them to remain there. Everything here felt clean and sacred. The place felt like the original home of Naktus, where she resides.
The women who led us inside suddenly stopped and turned to look at us. I noticed she wore a look of pride on her face when she saw Heather was still looking around. "The keeper will be with you in a moment but first you will need to go into your room and have a bath."
"The keeper is a lover of neat thing so we need to make sure that you are all cleaned up before we can consider you worthy to stand in her presence."
Those were kinder words to tell us that we were dirty.
Heather blinked at them before she looked down at the clothing that she wore. "Well, I guess we could use a nice bath."
Ivana snorted in response before she flipped her hair. "Please, I’d say we are in better shape than people who have been on the road for five days."
"That doesn’t mean you don’t stink." The other woman stated which earned her a glare from Ivana.
I stepped forward before a cat fight can happen between the women. "How about you lead the way and show us our rooms so we can have a bath?"
"Room." The woman corrected me.
"During your stay here, you will all be staying in one room as is expected of you."
"The keeper doesn’t believe in royal status, as everyone is equal in her sight!"
The women finished speaking but I knew the last part was directed towards me, although I couldn’t care less. Right now all I wanted was just somewhere I could rest My whole body hurts and my legs hurts and honestly, I could use a good nap at this point.
"Please lead the way!" I replied them and they both stared at each other for minute.
I was beginning to think they look a little dramatic for my liking when all of a sudden, the woman nodded her head with a small smile on her face.
"Very well." She said then turned away along with her companion.
They led us down a long corridor, the brush of their white robes against the earthy floor was the only sound. We followed them quietly along the curved corridor which was as beautiful as the outside. Vines clung to the ceilings above and a gentle light from crystal blossoms flared along walls like stars at dusk, lighting the path ahead.
"The keeper believes there’s unity in sharing space, when people are together it creates a special bond between them!"
"Hopefully not that special!" Ivana said shooting me a look and I made a face at her wondering what goes on in her mind.
"In this place everyone are all equal, we do not believe in the walls between royalty and common born. We were all forged from the same soil, so the earth and the spirit connects us all."
"I definitely like this place!" Ivana breathed out, "Do you hear that Dahlia? We are all equal!"
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her. I wondered what my father would think of the whole equal policy. He would probably lose his head at the whole thing and declare off with all the sister of the earth beautiful heads.
I continued to follow the women until finally we arrived at a circular room where a large wooden door with vine and owl carvings was pushed open. Beds were cut out of the stone itself each draped with soft moss and linen. A fireplace glowed right in the center of the room and on top, the ceiling was creaked and there was a dome of crystal leaves causing light to filter into the room.
"Right there is the bathroom, hope it’s to your taste!" The woman nodded her head towards a bamboo made door, "Linens and robes have also been prepared just for you, when the keeper is sure that you are clean, you may see her!"
With that said the women turned to leave, the door creaking closed behind then. When they were gone Heather walked toward a bed and jumped right on it. "I don’t care what anyone says but this is paradise!"
"Look at you, how dare you choose the biggest bed out of us all?" Ivana queried, "You need to get up right now."
Heather merely arched a brow up at her. "We are all equal, remember?"
"Why you cheeky little...."
I chuckled as I headed towards the bedroom. "Alright, I’m going to go take my bath."
Ivana stepped in front of me, "Actually, I am going to go take my bath first." She declared with a smile as she made her way into the bathroom, "We are all equal here princess, I just love this place!" She yelled with glee as she entered the bathroom.
Shaking my head, I made my way to the bed in the corner of the room and I curled myself on it. The bed felt very comfortable, no wonder Heather claimed it was paradise, I thought to myself with a sigh towards the ceiling.
"Hope you are not falling asleep over there?" I heard Heather’s voice. "The keeper only gave us time to clean up, she will soon call on us."
I chuckled at Heather, "Of course, I am not planning on falling asleep." I told her even though I could feel a yawn bubbling in my throat. "All I want to do is just rest my legs a little...I am just so tired." I mumbled as I burrowed into the sweet smelling pillows.
"But this place is beautiful though." Heather said and I could almost hear the smile in her voice if I concentrated hard enough. "I am so glad we came here." She said and I gave a mumbled reply as I laid on my back with my eyelash fluttering close.
"My lady!" Heather’s voice snapped me wide awake, "You are sleeping!"
"I am not!" I argued my voice filled with wearily, "I am simply resting my eyes, Heather!" I argued!
It was the truth though, I wasn’t feeling sleepy! I just was just a little bit tired is all! I tried to convince myself while forcing my eyelids to stay open but there was no fighting the power of sleep.
